So I’ve been seeing fics/au where Mirabel is treated by the villagers like bad luck or rotten cause she doesn’t have a gift but WHERE are the fics where everyone in the village loves her cause she’s so kind.
Seriously, like give me a fic where Mirabel is actually the most approachable Madrigal (all the others are so busy sometimes with bigger things, or like Isabela is far to prefect to be approached by those who have crushes on her other than Mariano cause he’s ‘prefect’ as well thus none try asking her out) and heck some people even have crushes on how warm and kind she is, talented, always willing to lend a hand for even the smallest thing, a wonderful caretaker for kids, her cooking is on par with his mom’s (only it doesn’t heal but boy is it tasty and it doesn’t take away any of the healing food Julieta made). (ngl I have a small headcanon that the rest of Mirabel’s family doesn’t really know how to do other things outside of their gifts but Mirabel has learned), listens to the stories some of the older villagers have (they love how she listens to them, they cup her face and coo over how lovely it is to have someone listening to their old stories), etc etc.
ONLY SHE AND HER FAMILY DON’T SEE THAT, actually the only one of the family that does know is Antonio but he’s 4/5 (he was confused how Abuela always said she was ‘in the way’ of others work but he’s seen how helpful she is around the village, how everyone smiles at her when she asks if they need help and thus they never complain about it ether). Mirabel’s so focused on trying to make her family proud/save the magic during the movie she never notices people her age trying to ask her out, her family never notices cause they’re always busy with major works around the village. Like her and her family kept focusing on the fact she was giftless they never noticed how well loved she actually was in the village.
BUT THEN! After the movie timeline is all done, her family finally notices it, Mirabel still doesn’t.
Then, Antonio begins mentioning and pointing out the teenagers (male and female) whose asked out/has crushes on his fav cousin.

MASTERLIST
“So, we have to keep it casual, bueno?”
“But-“
“Op!” Mirabel put a finger on Y/N’s lips, making them stumble back. They gently grabbed her wrist and tried to speak again.
“Mira-“
“Op, op, op!” Mirabel interrupted them again. Her hands looked like claws as she tried to make them stop talking.
Y/N shook her head. They smiled and let a out a soft chuckle.
“Ca-su-al,” she whispered aggressively. “Got it?”
“Got it,” Y/N sighed.
“Bueno.” Mira grabbed their shoulder and pulled them with her. “Now let’s go, my dear friend, we gotta, um, hang out?”
She speed walked away from the plaza taking Y/N with her. Her significant other just sighed in defeat.
But one look at Mira and her determination and it was enough to make them smile.
Mirabel would be the worst person to be in a secret relationship
her denying that something is going on, makes people sure there’s something going on
“Bye, I’m going out with Y/N- As friends! Yeah, we’re going to hang out… Platonically, I mean, how else? He he… Bye!”
yeah, she’s not good at this
but she tries
and you actually find it adorable
it’s not that she’s ashamed of you
it’s that she wants to keep you to herself
you’re her world and she has to keep this world from colliding with the other - the Madrigal world
she’s a family person, that’s for sure, but then she met you and she realized that at the bottom of her stomach laid a need to have some rest from the life of a gift-less Madrigal
and you awaken that need and made it travel all the way up to her heart
Mirabel just needed an escape
and you understood that, even though it’d be an honor to meet the amazing Madrigals, you were more than glad that you got to be that escape
“Hola, Mirabel,” Y/N greeted the girl. She turned to them with a lovely smile.
“Hola, Y/N, mi amo- I mean, mi amazing friend.” she grinned and walked up to them Y/N looked to the heavens as if asking them to help that poor, awful-at-lying soul.
“Here’s that thread you wanted,” Y/N said, placing a small basket of sewing materials in Mirabel’s hands. “There’s also some yarn here and, um, something else...”
And with a wink followed by a quick kiss on the cheek, they were gone. Mirabel bit her lip to keep the smile from creeping onto her lips. She looked at the basket. In between the thread and colorful yarn, she noticed a piece of green ribbon. She pulled on it and notice the ribbon was attached to a small piece of paper. She took out the note.
“Have a day that feels like the smell of fresh pandebonos in the morning and the sight of butterflies by the river,
Love, tu amor Y/N. <3″
Dolores knew from the very beginning, even despite the notes you exchanged and the lack of romance in your conversations
it was a miracle only she found out, for a surprisingly long time she was the only one from Mira’s family to know
she never said anything, knowing keeping your relationship a secret was important to Mirabel
it was hard though
there were moments where she acted like Mirabel
“Dolores, mija, have you heard where Mira is?” Julieta asked her once
“She’s with Y/N... They’re hanging out and it’s a very friendly moment, of course,” she smiled awkwardly and scuttled away, earning a confused look from her aunt
she was so relieved when someone else found out
and that someone was Isabela and Camilo
“Alright, who is it?” Isa asked.
Mirabel whipped her head to face her startled. Her glasses almost fell down at the sudden movement. “W-what?”
“Who is it?”
Mirabel looked at Camilo. Worry overcoming her features. But he stood behind Isa, with a smirk so devilish it made Mirabel shiver.
“I don’t- I don’t know what you’re talking about about, sis,” she chuckled nervously, fixing her glasses.
Camilo walked up to her. “Is it Andres?”
He turned into a said teen. Mirabel took a step back.
“What? No!”
“Sofia?” he shapeshifted again.
“Na-ah,”
“Diego?”
“No!”
Camilo and Isabela exchanged looks. The older girl nodded. Camilo’s grin just grew wider and he shifted one more time.
“Y/N?”
Mirabel let out a squeak, before quickly covering her mouth. Camilo/Y/N was so close, she almost fell down due to leaning back.
“N-no, pfft, Y/N? Absolutely not,” she said in a rush. Her face became warm, so before Isa and Camilo could notice her blush, she said. “Gotta go, bye!”
The remaining two Madrigals looked at each other.
“It’s Y/N,” Camilo said.
“Well, duh,”
the two aren’t exactly as respectful as Dolores
given any chance to tease Mirabel, they’d take it with no hesitation
so after a day or two after that occurrence, the whole family knew
and the reactions were… various
Pepa and Félix scolded the two for not respecting Mirabel’s privacy for example
Agustín was positively surprised, but he saw Julieta’s worried face and started doubting his reaction
Julieta was just curious as to why she wasn’t told this by her daughter herself
Bruno’s reaction was funny to Mira, he fist-bumpd her and so did one of his rats
Luisa and Antonio… well they didn’t really care to be honest
sure, they were surprised, asked a few questions
but Antonio was too little to grasp what was going on, five-year-olds don’t care about dating after all, he just hoped his prima was happy
and Luisa just shrugged it off, she said it’s not her business and decided to not question her sister
it just didn’t seem like that big of a deal to them
but everyone knew and Dolores could exhale in relief
only, Mirabel still thought that the secret wasn’t out, so she kept acting as if no one knew
it was hilarious to some (Camilo and Isa)
but her mother for example, decided to just save her daughter from embarrassing herself
“Mija.” Julieta cupped Mira’s face. “We know about Y/N.”
“Huh?” Mirabel felt her soul leave her body. And as said soul travelled up to the heavens, she swore she heard it scoff. “Who-who’s Y/N?”
“Mira,” Julieta said with a sympathetic smile. “It’s out, you can stop pretending.”
Mirabel sighed. She was hoping to keep Y/N to herself for a little longer. Yet, on the other hand, she felt relieved. As if she was Luisa and a donkey was lifted off of her shoulders. Coming up with excuse was exhausting, no matter how unbelievable they were.
“Are you mad?”
Julieta let out a soft gasp and engulfed her daughter in a hug. This child honestly. So much love for her family that she was afraid of having some privacy.
“Of course not, I just wished you got to tell me this yourself.” Julieta tucked a strand of hair behind Mira’s ear. “When you were ready.”
“Yeah, me too,” Mirabel said. “I can tell you all about them now!”
Julieta smiled and gave her daughter a big smooch on the cheek. Mirabel laughed with a roll of her eyes.
“Actually, I was thinking you could invite them over some time?” Julieta asked hopefully. “Oh! What do they like? Arepas? Ajiaco? I’ll make it all.”
Mirabel grinned from ear to ear. The sudden excitement of her mother was a bit contagious.
it was surprising to you that all of the sudden the whole family knew of your existence, even more that they invited you to dinner
“Mirabel, are you sure you’re ready?” you asked her when she told you the news
the fact that you asked, made tears appear in her eyes
she just nodded, too touched to say anything
you weren’t exactly nervous about making a good first impression, what you were worried about was Mirabel realizing that it might be too soon to combine the two most important worlds of hers
but she was too relieved to not have to lie anymore, that she forbid you to speak about it
you obeyed
let her enjoy this, right? she deserved it
the only person you were anxious to meet was the head of the family - Alma Madrigal
you, as well as Mirabel, were sure that she would show you great hospitality, Alma Madrigal was kind to all residents of Encanto and cared about them
but she was still someone who intimidated you, so the nerves were a natural thing to feel in such situation
but, to no surprise, Señora Alma was nothing but a great host and kindly invited you to her home
the dinner went by peacefully
at first you sat across the table from Mirabel, in between Isabela and Camilo
big mistake
being bombarded with questions and getting teased apparently went hand in hand with these two
so Casita helped you out and took your chair away from them, sitting you next to your girlfriend
Mirabel hugged you, sticking out a tongue at her primo and hermana
nice to know at least that even the house accepted you as Mira’s significant other
you chatted with pretty much everyone
Antonio absolutely adores you now, all that indifference he felt before, vanished
“So?” Mirabel looked at her family, after hugging you goodbye. “Come on, bring it in. You’re each allowed max two remarks and teasing comments.”
She opened her arms and closed her eyes as if preparing for an impact. She hesitantly opened one eye, when her family stayed quiet.
“What?” she asked.
“They’re great,” Isabela said. Everyone nodded eagerly. “But if they hurt you in anyway, tell them to expect a bouquet of Poison Ivy on their doorstep.”
“Aw, Isa,” Mirabel cooed. “You care?”
“Whatever, now help us clean the table, simp,”
“Yep, there it is,”
it was safe to say the Madrigals adore you
still worried about Mirabel regretting introducing you to them, you did everything you could to keep the relationship as private as possible, to keep it casual
you still give her notes in the morning
you still have dates in your secret spots
the only difference is that you sometimes get invited for dinner and you can now hold hands or kiss in public
Carmelita works very hard to support herself and her child. TOO hard really, often wearing herself out to exhaustion.
Luckily she has such a caring little girl. They look after each other
It's a Mirabel is turned back into a 4 year old trope, but there's a twist. It's after Casita falls. Casitas last gift to Mirabel is turning her into a 4 year old. So when the dust settles after the house falls, Julieta is shell-shocked to find a tiny version of Mirabel.
So the magic is gone, so they have to figure out how to turn her back without it. This gives the family time to spend with her that they didn't have before. And of course, she's cute, cuddly and loveable 4 year old Mirabel so how can you not love her?
So much fluff potential! And family bonding moments. So many chances to make things right!
And the ending! The ending will be the best part!
So I was looking up how long it takes to build a house in modern times. It said 7 months is the average. So I'm thinking that 10 months isn't so far fetched. I mean they don't have modern technology, they don't have magic anymore, and they have to make literally everything from scratch again.
So the end would pretty much be the same ending as the movie but it would be a 'redo' of sorts for Mirabel's door ceremony. So the house would take a little less than 10 months to finish, and it would finish on Mirabel's 2nd fifth (and 16th) birthday. She gets her door AND saves the magic! She IS the gift!
instead of mirabel not getting a door in this Au,she gets a door but the door shows a small her in the middle (as a child) then different versions of her, suddenly theres a knocking on the other side of the door. and another mirabel is standing on the other side albeit older.
