In Noldor elven culture, it's a rite of passage for parents to create cradles for their babies.

Elerrian is borne a Noldor princess, daughter of Hilindil of Himring and Mirwen of Old Ithilien ( destroyed by orcs in Second Age, and Mirwen and her family fled to Himring when Mirwen was a young adult ), a granddaughter of Maedhros, and also a great granddaughter of Feanor.

Later on, after the War of the Rings, Legolas leads a large group of Noldor, Sindar, Falmari and Vanyar Elves to rebuild Ithilien, where Legolas was crowned King
