from the moment he met scary, terry saw himself in her and tried so hard to make her feel loved and appreciated. but terry grew up with a whole bunch of massively traumatized people and never learned how to show affection like a normal person and scary had been rejected too much to accept the love terry tried to give her.
scary really thinks willy is the only one who understands her and cares about her in a way she can accept but willy isn't going to change, and it's so heartbreaking that even with one time willy got mad at her to see her already have such a visceral reaction to it because willy is absolutely terrifying when he wants to be and maybe scary will end up at his side not out of loyalty or love but fear. the fear that has hurt every generation before her.
