what’s your first language?

^i’m learning chinese and spanish

“first language” is a little hard to answer considering my linguistic environment 😅

technically both English and Chinese are my primary (fluent) languages bc my environment is primarily English speaking, i grew up speaking Chinese to my family, and i learnt both in school

i once attended a english linguistics class in uni where the group of students facilitating the discussion on gender in linguistics introduced themselves with “i am [name] and i identify as she/her”. i was never so icked hearing something like that spoken unironically.

i get that an attempt at being inclusive was made, but in an english class where everyone was fluent in english, it emitted a glaring ignorance of gender identity and gendered pronouns; a certain (unintended?) backhandedness, even.

why do some job application forms mandate a name prefix? it’s so disgusting to get continuously flashbanged by the prefix you don’t prefer but are forced to pick

i hate this job market and economy. can’t even think slightly deeper about employment without sending my mind to dark places
