mischievoustempest submitted: Spiders give me major heebie-jeebies but I do like spiders of the friendly neighborhood variety! Your posts looked like so much fun too it just got my brain working and here we are! This is Wolf, based of the European Wolf Spider from where I used to live. Wolf spiders are nocturnal hunters, known for pursuing and ambushing their prey. Sometimes over impressive distances! They don’t spin webs, instead living in burrows in the ground. They have the third best eyesight in the spider world, with Jumping Spiders and Huntsman Spiders coming in second and first respectively. It was a super fun challenge/prompt!
HEEECC YEAH!!!!
Are you official with the Mandalorian Mercs? O:
i am not! my sabine isnt 1hundo% accurate yet, and my armor is just EVA but i’d like to upgrade some pieces and apply there or to Rebel Legion!
Sorry if this is out of the blue, but if I may ask: what set you on your path to working in aquariums? I dropped out of college because I couldn’t find my passion (wrong school and so not emotionally ready for it) but I’ve always been in love with zoos and aquariums and working with animals but I’m not sure what it takes to work at one. Sorry, I guess I’m really wondering how do you like your job and what education did you get to get there?
No need to apologize! Also dropping out of college because you’re not ready is a way better option than sticking through and wrecking yourself plus ending up in debt for something that wasn’t right for you.Zoo and Aquarium work typically takes three things: a bachelors degree, experience within the field, and a shit ton of patience.I’d say a good first step is to check out your local facility and see if they’ll accept interns or volunteers who aren’t currently enrolled (varies place to place and they’ll sometimes make exceptions). Interning is a good way to get the experience and get a lot of hands on work to see if it’s something you’d want to go into! That’s the main thing about this career is you really wanna know it’s what you want from the get go, and a semester or season interning is a good way to get an idea of that. To be straight up, it can be hard to get into and can rely on luck as much as a good resume. Zoo work is pretty competitive (ESPECIALLY if you wanna start getting into the really charismatic megafauna like elephants and such) as it is, and aquarium work is also competitive to break into just because of how niche a field it is. They also tend not to pay well (though I’ve seen sooome improvement there? My pay has gone from depressing to Not Great but Okay For this Area I Guess) Hence: the patience. It can sometimes take a LONG ass time of a combination of doing volunteer work, seasonal/part time work, second jobs, and networking to get a full time job set. It can be a super rewarding job for sure! There’s a great combination of active physical work, science, new stuff, and routine, which is perfect for my adhd ass. It takes a lot of work and patience but can definitely be worth it!
