Yesterday Papi and I went to see my Tio Jimmy's land, which took my breath away. When I looked up towards the canopy above us, I saw a perfect rainbow circle around the sun. • As you will hear in the video, my Tio saw it as a sign, or blessing, from God. Being here, connected to nuestra tierra, it certainly felt like one. • Later, I looked it up and learned that it is a "Solar Halo." The scientific explanation (according to @farmersalmanac): "A Sun halo is caused by the refraction, reflection, and dispersion of light through ice particles suspended within thin, wispy, high altitude cirrus or cirrostratus clouds." • Over the centuries there have been lots of superstitions and folklore about these stunning solar halos. The phenomenon, also known as a "22-Degree Halo" is often seen as a sign that rainy weather will arrive the following night, at midnight.
