I know some of these folks I haven’t interacted much with yet, but I’m looking to change that! Y’all are amazing and lovely inspirations to my own writing and blog~ ^u^
You can also find a previous list here~
Send me a “👥” and I’ll handwrite the main characters names + ages!
You can find the main four here! But as for some other important characters~
There’s uh... a lot of spoilers when it comes to certain characters’ ages. Whoops.
Happy WIP Progress Sunday! - @jynecca Is there something you’re particular proud of from this week? Something you’re disappointed with?
Thank you so much for this ask! I’m so sorry I didn’t answer your ask last week that was quite rude of me (the answer to that one was no both last week and this week; I haven’t been writing many humourous moments or characters lately).
Actually writing wise, I’m proud of my response to the prompt for ‘vengeful ghosts’ because it didn’t go anywhere near the way I expected it to and it took some tries but I’m really happy with how it turned out.
In other news, I had a really good meeting with my dissertation supervisor this week who told me that I’m really close to being finished with the fiction part of the diss and just need very minor edits rather than another redraft. He also said my narrative framing was executed perfectly and I’m still feeling incredibly pleased with myself about that even though this was on Thursday.
I’m disappointed with my work for my other module, for which I’m supposed to be writing an extract from a murder mystery. I love the genre and have read a million and one examples but it is so difficult to write one myself. I think part of it is the style of narration I was attempting so I might just have to try a different style. Writing diary-style seems to be almost as hard as writing the investigation itself.
"I'm bound to wander where/All of your glitter's going" (sorry it took me so long to get the lyric to you!)
Apologies that it took so long for me to write this! Truth be told, I lost the document with the original idea and it totally killed my motivation, and then I was busy with my book… But I’ve decided that today’s the day I would haul my butt back into gear and write the drabble to go with these lyrics!
Thank you for your patience and thank you so much for your ask! :)
“Glitter!” He cried, storming into the woods after the young woman. She was every bit as stubborn as her mother and as fierce as her father: the King and Queen of Oatharia.
“Don’t call me that, Taylor!” Glitter stopped in her tracks to snap at the young man following her. Her golden hair shimmered pink in the beams of sunlight that peeked through the leaves above.
Taylor could only laugh at the sight. The glitter in the princess’s hair was precisely how she got the nickname and the fact that she chose to dress in clothing covered in sparkles, but she hated her nickname. The irony. “Then you’d better listen to me. You can’t go after this monster by yourself.”
“But I’m not by myself,” she protested. “I have you. Not that you’ll be much help, however… what kind of knight is afraid of fighting?”
Taylor groaned in annoyance, trying not to roll his eyes. “The kind that doesn’t want to be here but has no choice since he’s been magically bound to your royal pain in the ass.”
“Excuse me-!?”
Glitter’s shout was cut short, however, by a howl in the distance. She gripped her staff (which definitely hadn’t been ‘borrowed’ from the armoury) and ran deeper into the woods, abandoning the path that she had originally been following.
Taylor sighed. He mentally cursed himself for daring to be stupid enough to break into the castle’s kitchen and get caught about a year ago, which is how he ended up in this mess. Why the King and Queen decided to magically bind a thief to their own daughter, however, was a question that still confused him to this day. At first, he thought they were crazy, but it only took a few months for him and Glitter to become friends.
Taylor’s doubts about the sanity of the King and Queen were only somewhat quieted upon hearing that they were both a really good judge of character. He hoped that they had seen something promising in the rugged, messy brown-haired boy that had been dragged into the throne room by two armour-clad guards all those months ago.
“Hurry up, slow-poke!” Glitter called.
Taylor blinked out of his thoughts and chased after the princess into the woods. He kept mostly to the same path as Glitter, that way he could avoid cutting through thick bush since Glitter had already forced the plants aside with the magic in her staff, but since the Princess was much shorter than himself, he had to use his sword to cut through a few branches here and there.
Another roar shook the forest, sending birds rushing to the skies.
Glitter came to a halt. Taylor gulped.
There was a small clearing in front of them, then the shadows of the forest got much thicker. A silhouette of a creature twice Taylor’s height could be seen on the other side of the clearing.
Glitter pointed to her right. “You go that way. I’ll go this way. We’ll meet on the other side and surround the beast, alright?”
“This is a bad idea,” Taylor insisted.
“Relax, we’ll be fine!”
Alright, so, I have this saved as a draft on my Inkitt Profile and I will absolutely write more if I have the time!
You're such a wonderfully positive person and I adore having that sort of energy on my dash! ☺️ Writblr @jynecca
Thank you so much!!!
You are so lovely and friendly! I really love seeing whatever your posts are on my dash, especially your writing. It’s so vivid and I’m in awe of your descriptions and descriptive language. I don’t know how to put it, but your metaphoric language, I guess? How you relate little details to ideas and describe them in ways I wouldn’t have ever imagined is so amazing.
4k / 5k Follower Celebration: Let me celebrate you!
gemini: how often will your plot change throughout the course of writing?
There have been too many occasions where I have had to completely scrap my outline because it’s wildly different from the way the story is actually going. This is why I don’t write outlines anymore.
leo: what things will show up in every book you write? do you ever feel like a one-trick pony?
I never really feel like I write one thing, and one thing only, but I’ve become playfully frustrated with myself for including dragons at nearly every opportunity. Even when I’m not even writing about dragons, there’s dragons in it. I was just trying to write about the nature of loneliness, goddammit, why is there a DRAGON here?
Leave an “Yahoo Me” in my ask, and I’ll write a drabble about the specified characters celebrating something [feel free to specify.]
Kai Fen wiped his nose on a handkerchief as he walked east. The sun would be rising soon, and he needed to be at the coast before then. His bag bumped his hip, and though he knew that somewhere the days were starting to warm, here there was no indication.
He descended the rocky steps into the early morning fog that swirled about the harbour, and he made his way to a pier. He would have preferred somewhere private, perhaps a stony beach where the water threatened to touch him, but he didn’t trust himself to be able to find a place like that in Linast.
At the end of the pier he knelt just as the first gentle pinks began to touch the horizon. He ducked out of his bag and took out from it a pouch of gemstones, a small mirror, a scroll, and a folded lantern he’d found by chance at a market. He pulled from the pouch lapis lazuli, ruby, jade, and carnelian, and laid them out in front of him in that order.
He turned the mirror to face him, and ignoring the nervousness that brought, he opened the scroll. It was his own handiwork, crafted from memory, and it made him nervous. It didn’t feel right to be so disconnected from the past like this, to be so… alone. But he read the words anyways, tried not to critique how he wrote the classical characters, and tried even harder not to think about how long it had been since he’d last spoken Enyese out loud.
He tucked the scroll away and turned the mirror towards the horizon, where the sun would soon be rising. He knelt forward and places his hands palm down on the damp wood, his forehead joining them, and he waited in silence for the sun to finish rising.
At home, everywhere in Enyang, daytime fireworks would explode across the sky once the sun climbed fully above the horizon, and the sky would be filled with beautiful powdered pigments. Here, in Linast, Kai Fen simply had to guess. He looked up twice before it was fully up, muttering apologetic prayers each time, and then finally, he looked up a third time.
He sat back on his heels and squinted at the sun. The sky, although lacking powders, was beautiful all the same. Pinks and oranges and golds and purples. And the water reflected it, making it twice beautiful. The mirror, turned away from him, copied the image a second time.
Kai Fen had four sunrises and four stones. He turned his head north and thanked it for winter, thanked the south for summer, the west for autumn, and then the east for spring.
He unfolded the lantern and struck a match to light it. He watched it burn and flicker on the wick. A lantern wasn’t a candle. He raised his hands and ever so slowly the lantern lifted from his palms, and as it began its journey towards the sun, Kai Fen whispered another prayer into the gentle wind.
“Happy New Year,” he said, and was answered by the waves.
