WIP INTRO: So Said the King Book One: Throne of Dirt

❅ Summary:

The king is dead.

News of his passing spread quickly throughout the frozen kingdom of Erealia, the queen ascending to the throne. She promises that she will ascend the kingdom of eternal winter into a new era - one where their crops will finally go and sunlight will seek past the mountain tops. Lies from snaked tongues and a lust for blood, she swears by the gods, that they demand war in exchange for this to happen.

Princess Sage had never left beyond the stony gates of her kingdom, had never been allowed to leave the courts of her castle, now led, hand in hand by her childhood friend and Knight, Sorel as he tells her that it is no longer safe for her. There is plot from the queen to end her life, and she must seek asylum and help from neighboring nations - ones sworn as enemies by the Queen.

Partnered with hired assassin, Nyx, from Cael, Sage sets on the journey given before her. Secrets emerge as she keeps on the path, bitter truths from the gods that escape and she wonders if saving her home is worth it in the end.

i have finally finished "the price of eden"

clocking at 65k words, it's finally done. and i am shelving it. this story that is so dear to my heart, i have been working on for over a decade now, changing, re-working, re-writing, hiatus-ing, shelving.

it's finally fucking done.

this, like HEMLOCKS, likely will never be put in for publication just because of how special it is to my heart. and like HEMLOCKS, will only given for a few friends to read sparsely.

i did have a sequel planned, where the story continues because this ended on a bittersweet ending but i've decided that this story doesn't get much of a happy ending. i tried every which way to give it one, but in the end, it didn't fit. it would have been named the lies of lilith or likely, white chrysanthemums and followed bailee and lucija's daughter in the aftermath of it all, as the daughter of traitors to the Covens and the reason for the New Celestial Wars being waged. but whenever I tried to write it, it didn't fit or I just didn't like its direction. I will likely use those characters and the Eden world at another point in time.

now if only i could finish so said the king.

You're fresh out of college and looking for a job. Everyone is hiring. Nobody who's "hiring" is actually hiring. You finally get a call back from somewhere you barely remember applying to (though the voice on the other end sounds synthesized). You pull up the job listing again real quick. The company name and the fact that the listing is for "Minion" are kind of concerning, but you know what, you've interviewed with enough evil corporations by now, you can handle one wearing its true colors on its sleeve. At this point it's a matter of making rent or moving back in with your parents, and as much as you love your family, you can't imagine spending another summer dealing with your brothers' antics. You agree to the interview.

The man who greets you is an enthusiastic older German(?) man who's either way too into cosplay or just that committed to the bit, judging by the lab coat. He made cookies. The tray of cookies is proffered to you by a ten-foot-tall robotic caricature of a 50s businessman. You take a deep breath to calm yourself. You bite into one of the cookies. It's delicious.

You ask the boss about his business model. "Oh you know, a little of this, a little of that, I bounce from project to project a lot." He mentions that his end goal is becoming the undisputed ruler of the surrounding counties. "Really? Not the whole world?" you ask. "I like to set realistic goals," he replies.

As he gives you the tour of his "evil lair," ingrained instincts are screaming at you to report this guy to some kind of authority figure. You remember the salary. You decide that you can always bust him after getting your first paycheck.

The boss asks when you can start. Caught off guard, you say "tomorrow?". Your boss(?) says he'll see you then.

On the way out, you bump into your stepbrother's girlfriend. Your boss introduces her as his daughter. You both silently agree to sidestep the subject for now and act like this is your first time meeting.

You show up to your first day of work. Your boss is putting the finishing touches on a giant machine that was definitely not there yesterday. You are nonplussed. You ask him what it's for and he launches into a convoluted explanation involving his parents always forcing him to put his shirts on backwards so the tag was in front. You think he should probably talk to a therapist.

Your brothers' exotic pet breaks down the wall. You stare at him. He stares at you. Incredulously, you say his name. "Oh, good, you two already know each other!" your boss says. You mention that you used to live with him. "What? Perry the Platypus, you never mentioned having a roommate."

This is what I like to imagine Candace Flynn's life is like, post P&F.

Sage felt her blood freeze in her veins as Sorrel quietly gave her the news - the king is dead and she must run. There is no time to mourn, no time to pack - he promises he will meet her in Ayathia but for her sake, she must run before the Queen finds her. She wants to accuse him of lying, but why would her long time friend lie to her about the Kings death? He pulls her along the hallway, his instructions falling on deaf ears as her vision swims. Why would her mother do something like this - no, she knows why but she wishes she didn't. "There has to be another way." "Not if we want our nation to survive, there isn't," His voice is firm. "Ayathia used to be our allies. You must request an audience with the Empress. We cannot do this alone." "I can't just leave my people." He pushes her to the other side of the gate. "Run."

PRINCESS SAGE - Daughter of late King Ilya, beloved by the people, firm in her beliefs but sheltered from the outside world so her views and ideas are naive. She is gentle in nature. Bi. It is said that one the day of her birth, the sun shone and it was much warmer.

Her kingdom is frozen, vast and covered with forests and mountains everywhere. It is believed that their nation is frozen because their god had died in a war her forefathers waged, and they were cursed with her last dying breath. This god, oddly enough, was one who controlled fire - the nation was once prosperous with her reign, blessing the ruling family with her powers until King Akim chose to betray her in a battle to in order to advance his army into a nearby country.

Hello! I found your blog through this post, and just had to give you a follow!! I'm Morrigan, but you can call me Morri. I haven't been doing much writing in the past few months (adhd and college have been kicking my ass), but I'm looking to get back into it in the near-ish future. (please, universe. let me write again soon.)

I have a fair number of WIPs, in varying states of progress and planning, but the main ones are All the Queen's Horses (light fantasy romance. needs a new intro post), Call of Shadows (fantasy adventure with zero romance), as well as (hopefully I'll work on these two eventually) Runaway Prince WIP (fantasy OR sci-fi (yet undecided) adventure with pirates. No intro post yet.), and High Fantasy WIP (D&D-inspired setting and adventure, narrated by an immortal soul collector. No intro post yet.).

I also have Political Fantasy WIP (fantasy romance with political scheming. No intro post.) and Supernatural Roadtrip WIP (idk how to even describe this one. it's very vague ideas so far. No intro post.) both on the back burner.

I'm always down for asks (and tags), be they writing-related or not. I'm really, really chatty most of the time, as long as I have the spoons/spell slots for it. But as you can probably tell from this post, I'm an all-around chaotic mess. So tag games and asks don't always get answered on time.

I'm queer (aroace) and neurodivergent (audhd), and a lot of my work centers around queer characters. Found family is one of my favorite tropes, and so some variation of it pops up in just about every WIP I have.

I primarily write fantasy (of varying levels of magic), but I'd love to try my hand at writing sci-fi someday.

D&D is my current all-consuming special interest, so PLEASE tell me all about your campaigns and blorbos. I want to hear EVERYTHING. (I'm in two campaigns at the moment, and I've been playing SO MUCH Baldur's Gate 3 lately, so that's how I've been spending all of my time rather than writing.)

I don't know whether the story about tibetan spaniels and tibetan mastiffs working together is true or not, but I find it way too fucking funny. Like imagine being a burglar who's broken into a monastery to do burglarly things, and then you hear a noise and you're like "oh shit I'm caught", but then you turn to look and it's just this tiny dog who looks at you with mild disgust and wanders off.

So you sigh in relief and continue with your robbery before you hear another noise, and immediately become aware of three things: The little dog came back with a friend, the new buddy is the size of one metric Fuck You, and you are about to find out which afterlife is real.

Sure.

Red means stop. No more negotiation, something has crossed a line (too painful, something bad that wasn’t negotiated, etc.)

Yellow means that you need a break or that something is too much, or that if the top continues then you’re going to “red” soon.

Green means that things are going well and you want to continue if not ramp it up a little.

While a bottom might blurt out red or yellow, I’ve never seen a bottom volunteer “green”. It’s usually said in answer to when a top is checking in to make sure everything is okay. Asking “How are you?” and getting an answer of “fine” or “okay” might mean the bottom is just on autopilot and reflexively answering. Asking “What’s your color?” and getting “green” or “I was very close to yellow when you stopped” is much better.

One of my favorite doms to watch at parties was doing a pre-scene negotiation with someone he hadn’t played with before and said something like “Now, just between you and me here ;-) , my favorite color is yellow. It’s not about taking anything I can dish out. I promise you, I can always go harder. I want to know how you’re doing. I’ll likely yellow you, on purpose, a few times, just to find out where your limits are and then aim for a little below that. I don’t want to hear ‘green green green, green green red’ because then the scene’s over. I want some indication of how you’re doing and when you’re getting close to what you can handle, okay?”

And then, whenever she yellowed, he praised her. And why wouldn’t he?? She gave him vital information that allowed the both of them to have more fun!

Recently I have heard some discussions on also adding BLUE to this system for medical issues. It would function like RED but also in one word alert your partner you are having a medical issue, e.g. asthma attack, body cramps, low blood sugar, dizziness or some other sysmtom that is a problem for you. If you have already discussed medical issue with you partner, which you should do, blue might key them into something they can respond to with that knowledge to help rather than red and having to explain further.

Example: if I have asthma and communicate with my partner that it’s been bothing me recently and here is where my inhaler will be during a scene and I start having breathing issues and can’t stop coughing or catch my breathe to make out long or multiple words, I can say blue and they would know to get my inhaler. Or they would know to ask medical related questions in relation to stopping rather than thinking they pushed too hard.

i think that ghosts can and should decay. i think they should blur and fade, like a tape rewound too many times, or a photograph taken out and unfolded and then refolded again until it's nothing more than a vaguely recognizable smear of what was once a snapshot of time and memory. i think that clinging too tightly to a ghost should only destroy it faster, eroding it away until there's nothing left to hold on to.
