5/30/16 1.76 miles Hottest part of the day! YTD: 523.99 miles AVG: 3.4701/day 150 days in a row
Yesterday was a busy day. Woke up late, because I guess I needed it. And it seems I’m super groggy when I got too much sleep. In contrast I went to bed early* last night and woke up before my alarm at 5:10am - probably about 6 hours of sleep - and I was bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to go this morning.
I spent a fair amount of time outside with my wife and daughter - my main job could be summarized as “fixing things”. The first thing I wanted to fix was our overhead garage door. I had noticed a day before that the part where it attaches to the opener was literally hanging on by a few threads (of the last remaining bolt used to connect it).
But before I could get to that, my daughters bike chain was off her chainring**. I ended up having to remove her chain guard (by removing a training wheel), tightening*** her bottom bracket, getting the chain back on, and finally the chain guard and training wheel. Good as new.
Fixed the overhead door. The one bolt hole was stripped, but the other two seem like they’ll hold. For a while.
Then I worked on fixing some of the patchy grass in the front. Got out my garden weasel to break up the soil in the bare spots, had my daughter help me spread the seed mix. We probably did a terrible job, but she enjoyed it and that’s good enough for me.
Then I got busy starting on some of the slower-cooking things that we were going to serve for dinner - we had a guest coming over. Caramelized onions, acorn squash, cinnamon maple toasted squash seeds. While the squash finished up I got my run in. My legs felt really dead for the first half, and felt much better after that - which is strange to see that my pace was fastest during that portion.
It was during that dead-leg feeling portion of the run that I recalled I’m supposed to lift on Mondays, but knew I wouldn’t find/make time to do so.
* Earlier than usual, but not as early as I should be.
** I don’t recall chainring problems being so pervasive growing up, but it seems like I’ve put more chains back on in the last few years than I can count.
*** The reason why the chain on a fixed gear slipped off at all. I had to do it by hand since I don’t have a tool for tightening it, so I guess now I need to include a safety inspection of the kids’ bikes every once in a while.

There. Fixed my dashboard. Now I can reply and junk. WEWT!
