tbh when i think of wuthering heights i think of your art first ❤️
;___; thank you!! i'm so honored cause it really is one of the most meaningful books to me. i still struggle to explain what i like about it, i'm never satisfied when i try to explain what it is that i find so special about it. part of it is that it is a very singular, complicated book, full of contradictions ; it has a very fast pace, skipping months or years or decades, and yet it doesn't feel rushed at all. the characters act in really exaggerated, larger than life ways, and they still feel grounded and like real people. they often do what you would expect them to do, but just in more extreme ways
i think if i had to name a single thing that i like about it, i might say how the strongest ties are not the ones created by blood or marriage, but by choice and time and affinity. parents die, siblings stop speaking to one another, and marriage is universally bad for women, but the bond heathcliff and catherine formed in their childhood adventures never dies. and watching little catherine reconcile with hareton and how that helps them endure the tyranny of heathcliff, as heathcliff and catherine once helped each other endure life under the tyranny of hindley, oh how i love to see it
