Week 12 - Finally, we have reached the third month! Time to unlock the front door as freedom awaits... Unless you have mito... Different patients have been told different things - some informed they can, since the government changed their mind on the vulnerable wave and chat to loved ones 2 metres away through a window, but not for a long social exposure, others have been permitted an hours exercise out of the house, with 1 other person whilst maintaining a 2 metre distance, many with medically vulnerable children have been told not to leave the house or see people and remain in social isolation until at least 30th of June. This puts extra pressure on families who are struggling without a care team. I haven't heard anything, so am assuming I am in until 30th June. I really miss my P.A's - the laughs, conversations, the companionship... I can only think that doctors have looked at each, individual case, and evaluated the risks to both mental and physical health, and made a judgement based on that.
Lockdown is hard. It is lonely. I can only hope that one day soon, the death and infection rates go down, people continue to wash their hands and one day soon all those on the medically vulnerable list, like me, can leave the house and see friends and family, who we miss so much.
To try and help ease the isolation felt by our mito families, we held a zoom meeting. Although definitely different to our usual face-to face gatherings, it was wonderful to be able to hear their voices and we hope the families found it helpful.
