On one hand I'm glad they feel they can talk about it; on the other there is something foundational about the Fear of people in real life knowing you write fic, and losing that is Changing fandoms in strange ways.

All of these things at once, yes. I simply cannot reconcile fandom content with it being general knowledge, because since I was 12 I’ve had this thing in which my fandom persona is completely separate from me irl and this is habit is just being left behind? Times are a-changing and all that, but it’s happening so fast I can’t get used to it.

There’s also the “Oh this published famous author wrote x fanfic in the past but good luck finding it because they deleted everything when they went pro because that’s how things are”. Is this just going to end too? I guess so, and that’s nice, because fandom artistic content has as much value as original art, but it doesn’t mean I wanna talk about it in person

“Papa!” The child’s voice pierced the background sounds of the village. “Papa!” There was no thought to lowering volume, nor as yet any hint of the mild contralto she’d reach as she grew, it carried over quiet voices, the rustle of the wind and the gentle rasp of her father’s whetstone on the blade of his sword.

“PAPA!” Louder still, as if by some miracle he’d not heard her, though he’d need to be completely stone motherless deaf, “I kilt a dwaggin!”

“Did ye, now?” Branek put down the blade and got to his feet, a resigned sigh belied by the smile on his lips. “A mighty beast was it, then?”

He already knew what he was going to find - his daughter Therese with some stick or other she pretended was a sword, and the ‘slain dwaggin’ sprawled on his back with rear paws splayed and front ones held up, bristled snout panting and tail beating a happy ‘thump-thump-thump’ on the turf.

Oh. And the garland of leaves decorating his neck, intended to be the monster’s fearsome scales. Branek stopped a second, composing himself so that laughter didn’t encroach on the dreadfully serious business he’d been called to see. “Be praised, lass!” He gasped, “‘Tis even bigger than the last one!” It wasn’t, being the same hound, but his wee girl beamed up at him ear to ear, and that made the lie worthwhile.

i used to own a lot of weird things but i’ve misplaced them over various moves, like full snake skins, a beaver skull (their teeth are really weird) and a civil war era bullet, well that was my dad’s, but i don’t have those anymore tragically

20. Do you need music/noise to write or do you prefer silence? [Also asked by @bertievi ]

It depends. Sometimes if the neighbours are loud I need some sort of 'white noise' like a fan to blank them out; a continuous quiet background sound rather than unpredictable loud noises from outside.

Music is a no, depending on what's playing it pulls me out of whatever I'm trying to write.

21. What time of the day is your favorite to write?

Whenever I can. If I can get the time, mood, motivation and muse all at the same time, that's when. I've noticed that if I get past a certain time of evening things kick up a gear, but that's not guaranteed.
