"Nooo!" Hawkmoth screamed out, "How could you defeat me?!"
"That's the thing, Hawkmoth," Fortuno scoffed, wrapping the string of his yo-yo tighter around the villain, " You are alone. While I have a partner that I trust with my life."
He looks to his side with a bright smile on his face, "Isn't that right..."
The crocodile on the roof yips happily, wagging his tail in the air while he taps at the baton rolling on the ground with his claws.

Summary: The Parentification Computation
Notes: Luka’s characterization is somewhat based on a conversation with some folks about the possibility of Luka having Atlas personality due to parentification, which is basically the impact when a child has to act as a parent, sometimes to their own parent but also to their siblings.
Adrien had felt a bit guilty when he took advantage of the rush to return to the suite to disappear to transform—he knew they’d worry, since the Akuma was likely going to look for him, but he had to help Ladybug defeat it.
The Akuma sucked the color and joy out of whatever it touched, the power turning into clothing and accessories that resembled Luka’s. It made an odd amount of sense, if the Akuma was a fan upset by Adrien’s fake relationship. So far it had leather pants, ornate boots, a leather jacket, kohl around its eyes, black fingernails, and hair that was black with… rainbow tips?
As Chat Noir got closer, he realized he recognized the person under all that.
“Wayhem?”
The Akuma turned toward him, face contorted in a sneer. “That’s Fade-Out to you! No one else can be happy until I am! Give me your Miraculous!”
He’d figured it was a fan, but had never imagined Wayhem would be the one, that he’d harbored feelings like that for Adrien. He’d been completely blind to it. What else had he been blind to?
Chat barely dodged when Fade-Out tried to grab him, then was pulled out of danger by Ladybug’s yoyo.
“I think the Akuma is in his glove,” she said as Fade-Out tried to find a way up to them.
When Chat peered, he could see on his right hand was a black fingerless motorcycle glove; embossed on the back was Adrien’s face. It was probably the face from his life-size cardboard cut-out he’d signed for Wayhem after he’d acted as Adrien’s body-double when Gorilla was Akumatized.
“So I need to let him get close enough to touch me, make sure I hit the glove.”
Ladybug frowned. “It’s too risky. Let’s see what we get with Lucky Charm!”
A red-and-black postless pillory fell into her arms, and she grimaced at it.
“I guess we need to immobilize him?” Chat asked.
Ladybug sighed. “You know my Lucky Charms aren’t that simple, chaton.”
She glanced around, seemingly looking for an answer, then pointed at a road sign, the one to rue du Chat-qui-Pêche, the smallest street in Paris—or, rather, the narrowest.
“The pillory will just barely fit in there, and with the drainpipes…”
Chat grinned. “Shall we pillory an Akuma, m’Lady?”
It took less than a minute of cat puns to get Fade-Out chasing him, and the moment the Akuma was in the alley, Ladybug snapped the pillory around his neck. His forward motion was halted so abruptly when it caught on a drainpipe that he lost his feet and wound up with his hands splayed on the pavement. Chat was able to Cataclysm the glove quickly and with no danger.
Then it was just a matter of Ladybug purifying the Akuma, unlatching the pillory, and tossing it in the air to release the Miraculous Cure, and Wayhem was on his hands and knees in the tiny street.
Once they’d fist-bumped, Chat turned her way. “I’ll handle the young man—I’ve more time before I detransform.”
Ladybug smiled and nodded, then yoyoed away.
Wayhem was staring up at him in dawning horror. “Oh, no. I was Akumatized?”
Chat offered him a hand. “Yeah. You okay?”
Once on his feet, Wayhem leaned against the wall with a sigh. “It’s so dumb. I was just a little jealous. I didn’t— Well, there’s this guy who’s a model, Adrien Agreste?”
He nodded, figuring he was expected to.
“Well, I was a ridiculous fanboy for a while, and kinda obsessive, and then he asked for my help when he was targeted by an Akuma. We became friends. And he… well, he just announced he has a boyfriend.”
Wayhem winced, rubbing his neck, his expression embarrassed.
“I didn’t even know… that was an option.”
Chat patted his shoulder; he felt badly that Wayhem had gotten caught up in this, but it was over and done with—and Adrien wouldn’t go back and fake-date Lila even knowing this.
“Honestly, maybe it wasn’t, though. You don’t know how he met his boyfriend or the circumstances,” he finally offered.
“I know.” Wayhem sighed. “It was just a moment of disappointment, you know?”
“And Hawkass took advantage.” Chat offered him a smile. “Just try to be happy for your friend, then. There’s someone out there for you.”
That got a little smile, just as the Miraculous beeped at him.
“That’s my cue to skiddoo!”
He gave the boy a little salute and was gratified when he got the same back, then he vaulted away, back toward the hotel.
Once he found a place to detransform and give Plagg some cheese, he snuck in and back to the suite, only to find Luka in the midst of pacing, Marinette and Penny looking concerned, and Jagged looking a bit irate.
When Luka saw him, he immediately stopped, and something in the older boy’s body language eased. It struck Adrien suddenly that Luka had been worried, something he hadn’t figured would happen.
“Sorry, wound up getting stuck downstairs. Figured I’d stay put until the Ladyblog put out the all clear.”
“Same thing happened to me,” Marinette offered.
Luka dragged his fingers through his hair. “It’s fine. These things happen.”
Jagged snorted. “You’re not fine, kid. You’re a bloody mess. Practically chewed all the polish off his nails. It was like when Penny misplaces me, only worse.”
“I don’t misplace you,” she muttered. “You wander off and terrorize people with Fang.”
A glance at Luka’s nails confirmed Jagged’s words, though. Most of his black nailpolish was gone.
“Oh. Well, we can get the spa folks up again. I kind of want mine done, too,” Adrien commented.
Luka frowned, then nodded. “Sorry… I just… I’m responsible for Juleka, and you both went missing, and the Akuma attack, and…”
Marinette stood, putting a hand on his arm. “Hey. You’re not responsible for me, or for Adrien.”
“But I’m his boyfriend now.”
Adrien blinked. “Is that how it works?”
Maybe it was—sometimes in movies and TV shows that was how it worked.
“No.” Penny’s voice was almost deadly. “That’s not how it works. You’re not his caregiver.”
Luka looked uncertain, like he was ready to argue.
Jagged scowled at him. “Nope, kid. I know Anarka’s a free spirit, but you’re not responsible for the world.”
Marinette offered Luka a hesitant smile. “You’ve got an independent boyfriend, Luka.”
The smile Luka attempted back looked very feeble.
“I’m sorry I worried you, Luka,” Adrien said, scratching the back of his head anxiously. “Most of the time my father keeps me shut in my room and forgets about me. So I didn’t think to let you guys know… but I didn’t have my phone on me, either. Whoops.”
Jagged turned the scowl on Adrien. “Okay, that’s gotta be addressed, too. So not okay. Social media blitz.”
Penny gestured to the computer. “You have a picture to post, anyway. Might as well fire some shots while you’re at it.”
Marinette and Luka exchanged a dark look, and then Luka drew himself up. “Okay. Your dad’s an asshole. Let’s air some dirty laundry?”
Loved this episode actually but I feel like it could have been better so here are my changes!
Ahem! So it starts basically the same but we cut out the creepy line about Adrien's lips when LB hits the billboard because I am sick and tired of Marinette's crush being written like a creepy stalker crush. Sick. Of. It. A lot of episodes have the potential of being the one that Chat learns that there is a time and place to flirt, more so when a Lady has specified on numerous occasions that she is not interested in you, but I think this one can pack a lot of weight into it.
The weight? Marinette being hurt, or at least the thought. This goes back to my Silencer AU a bit, like the reason he went numb and panicked then was because what happens in this episode. I found it weird that Chat wouldn't at least be a little worried that the giant donut thing crashed into Marinette's room, Ladybug is freaking out because she can hear her dad shouting for her in the house that keeps getting wrecked because Chat thinks it's the perfect time to flirt and ask her out or try to steal a kiss. Battle goes about the same but when the Miraculous Ladybug Cure goes out, Tom doesn't find fake Marinette but he does see the empty bed and panics.
Meanwhile Ladbug is hugging baby August to her and trying to keep her voice happy to not scare him but she's scolding Chat on his behavior and asking if he thinks this is a game, if he thinks the family that lives there isn't important? She passes baby August to Chat and tells him to take August home, she feels bad about the cold tone but she's seriously pissed. Chat finally let's the battle play out and he nearly drops to his knees at the memory of how wrecked the bakery and house looked moments ago and that Marinette and her parents probably got hurt.
So he leaps up to the balcony where he sees Marinette in her pajamas looking at him and August in worry, he misreads the worry as her being worried about him and Ladybug rather that the actual worry that he saw her talking to Tikki. Even though he's still holding baby August he rushes to hug Marinette and see if she's okay, that's around the time Tom realizes Marinette's not in her bed but he hears voices on her balcony and sees Chat hugging her and he still jumps to conclusions that they are in love and invites Chat to brunch, Marinette only agrees because she feels guilty about worrying her dad but she does try to tell him they are not in love.
Lalalalala next day! Marinette is still convinced Chat won't show, but Adrien believed Tom and thought that Marinette was in love with him so he only goes to reject her, like the actual brunch goes. Only Marinette is still trying to tell her father she doesn't love Chat while Chat is trying to do the same with her. Finally he confesses like in the episode, only this time Marinette doesn't have to pretend to be upset because she is, she snaps at Chat Noir that she wasn't in love with him and she can't believe he would jump to that conclusion, her parents try to tell her it's okay to be upset but she doesn't need to deny it. She gets more mad and snaps again that she had heard the fight and had seen Chat flirting and not fighting and how she could've died because of him (not true but she is really angry and the stress is getting to her) she ends her rant with, "I thought I could trust you with my life Chat, like with Evillustrator, I thought you were my friend, I thought wrong."
She doesn't have to fake her tears. Tikki thinks it was harsh but she understands it needed to be said, but she does scold Marinette for the way she did it. Tom finally sees what was going on and is pissed off that he trusted the life of his daughter to Chat, he thought Chat would protect her, but he realizes he can't trust anyone to do that, not even the heroes of Paris. Chat leaves and Tom gets akumatized into Weredad. Instead of the vine prison, Marinette's room turns into a tower covered in the vines.
The vines do spread everywhere close by basically and if the thorns are touched, people fall into a deep sleep. The vines start to grow and spread though, rather than just staying in the area. The inside of the tower in like the endless staircases from the Labyrinth. Her and Tikki still can't find one another so Marinette tells Tikki to tell Master Fu while Marinette tries to find a way out.
Chat is still fighting with Weredad after he promised Sabine he would do better and he would start by saving Marinette and earning her trust back. Tikki has to inform him that Ladybug is put of commission because she accidentally got touched by one of the thorns but that she was there to help and purify the akuma. Chat is distressed but he will fight however long he needs to. The crowd of people that have gathered (friends and family of Marinette and her parents who are worried) to watch and there are some who read the plaque at the bottom of the tower before trying to free Marinette themselves. The whole class (except Lila) tries but end up being put to sleep, Luka tries, Jagged Stone tries, even Fang tries but they all end up asleep. Alya would try but she's livestreaming and begging Ladybug to help her bestie please!
Marinette does end up finding the rose herself again after nearly getting touched by thorns, the tower vanishes and they're free falling like before. Tikki finds Marinette and the akuma and goes to purify it. The ending happens the same basically expect all of Marinette's friends and family rush into the bakery after the cure is sent out to check on her. Chat checks on her then and later on at night and they have a long conversation about being a hero and about his actions towards Ladybug. Marinette in turn confesses to liking a boy like that but having decided to try and move on and just bring his friend above anything else.
Chat admires that and tries to figure out who the boy is but figures out that Marinette is stubborn and won't tell, the episode ends with Chat shyly asking if they're still friends and when Mari agrees he cries and they hug and the end!
Jagged is the best uncle ever, he practically adopted marinette. Plus fang, oh fang is in love with marinette! Whenever she comes over, he lies his head on her lap and just enjoys her petting until she has to leave.

Summary: Kagami prepares for Marinette's return from battling an Akuma in cold weather. She reminisces on early stages of their relationship. Wedding planning.
Notes: As I was writing this chapter, I abruptly realized that this is part of the “Catch a Falling Star” series. Obviously, more fics take place between then and this one, but it’s in the same ‘universe’ as it were. These two are just so much fun. Also, thanks to @gullwhacker for the awesome idea for Penny and Jagged's joint account name.

-----------
Kagami put together preparations for Marinette’s return, and was glad she’d had the foresight: Marinette’s favorite tea perfectly steeped and kept at the appropriate temperature, macarons she stole down to the kitchen to procure, and she changed the sheets on the bed to a soft fleece, under which she put a heated mattress pad, turned on and ready to go. Under the blankets, warmed by the pad, she had a robe waiting.
For Tikki, she put together a sort of bed—a pillow with a heating pad under the fleece pillowcase, and a second fleece pillowcase as a blanket, warm and waiting.
So when Marinette returned a couple hours later, she was ready, able to wrap her in the warm robe immediately after she detransformed, able to press the hot tea into her shivering hands, able to give Tikki a macaron to recharge, to show her the warm ‘bed.’
Tikki, immediately after consuming the macaron, burrowed under her blanket with a contented sigh. Marinette summarized the fight, which had featured a shapeshifting Akuma. After recharging in the cold, she had informed Chat of her engagement and the need to defeat Hawkmoth before she could have the wedding. Chat had enthusiastically congratulated her, agreeing it was beyond time to defeat Hawkmoth.
The fondness in Marinette’s voice for her partner made Kagami smile; once Chat had grown a little and stopped pursuing her romantically, their relationship had strengthened into an easy friendship. Marinette hadn’t shared too many details on that yet—she was still acclimating to Kagami’s knowledge of her Ladybug identity—but oddly enough it seemed, of all people, Lila Rossi had enabled them to get to that point. It was probably her one decent act in her life, and it had been accidental.
Once the tea was finished, Kagami stripped her of her chilled and slightly damp clothing and bundled her off into bed, reveling in the Tikki-mirroring contented sigh Marinette made at being enveloped in the warmth after being out in the cold. Even transformed, the cold seeped in, and having to recharge hadn’t helped.
Marinette pressed against her under the blankets, and Kagami was glad to feel the remaining cold giving way to a luxurious warmth that eased them both to sleep.
Kagami was happy to wake before her; watching Marinette sleep was almost meditative, especially when she was able to ease Marinette to use her shoulder as a pillow, curling around her soft body. She was content to let her sleep—though many thought Marinette slept too much, the truth was she didn’t, often burning her candle at both ends and never truly recovering energy spent on Akuma battles.
She only left the bed, pulling on a robe, at a soft knock on the door. She found a servant carrying covered breakfast trays, and their rings in separate velvet boxes. The servant placed them on Kagami’s table and departed.
Marinette stirred, presumably at the scent, and Kagami sat next to her on the bed, petting her hair. As loathe as she was to wake her, she knew food was necessary, as the battle had expended much of the energy she had gotten from the meals the previous day. Well, as had their activities prior.
“Hey,” Marinette murmured sleepily.
“Hey yourself,” Kagami replied, getting an amused snort in return. “It’s nearly 10:30. Mother seems to have expected we would sleep late. Breakfast has only just arrived.”
Marinette stretched, one breast peeking briefly out from beneath the blanket as she did, before sitting up. Kagami almost regretted getting her comfortable with nudity.
Almost.
She handed Marinette the silk robe she kept in her room for her, pale pink with embroidered cherry branches thick with blossoms, which also fell lazily under them. It had been the start of the war of symbols that had culminated in last night, and perhaps would continue on through the wedding and even beyond.
She had given it to her the first night she’d spent here as Kagami’s official girlfriend. They’d had sleepovers as friends before, but this occasion had been the first since Marinette had shyly agreed to try dating her, when she was still too self-conscious to bathe with Kagami outside a swimsuit.
When Marinette saw the silk robe Kagami held out to her, she’d hesitated to take it.
“My wet suit will ruin it,” she’d protested.
“I’ll simply buy you another,” Kagami had retorted.
A spark had entered her love’s eyes then, one she recognized now as stubbornness. And without a word and with not a hint of shyness, Marinette had stripped off her bikini, quickly dried the remaining water on the enticing expanse of skin that had been revealed. Only then had she taken the robe.
But not to put it on.
No, she had stood there in all her glory, examining the fabric and stitching, oohing and aahing over the quality.
It had been a delightful torture.
“Do you know what cherry blossoms symbolize in Japan?” Kagami had finally asked.
Marinette hadn’t even glanced up. “In China they symbolize beauty and the power of feminine sexuality.”
Kagami’s breath had caught at that.
A mischievous little smile teased the corners of Marinette’s mouth. “And love, of course.”
This was the girl she loved and fell more deeply in love with every day.
She’d explained the Japanese—or really, Buddhist—idea of the ephemerality of life as represented by the sakura, as well as the way it symbolizes renewal—the coming of spring after a long winter.
And how Marinette had come to represent renewal to her. Then she’d leaned in to kiss her cheek, the corners of their lips just grazing.
Marinette, her face pink, had abruptly realized she stood naked before Kagami at that point. She’d quickly donned the robe and tied it shut.
Now, Marinette took the robe and put it on but left it open, almost an invitation, as she sat at the kotatsu.
Before they considered the trays, Kagami opened the velvet boxes, finding Marinette’s ring in the first she opened. She carefully eased it from the slot and took her hand, sliding it on. The happy flush on Marinette’s face was pure beauty in her eyes. Her brilliant blue eyes were misted as she gazed at the ring on her hand, at their intwined fingers.
Marinette took the other box, easing her hand from Kagami’s, and mirrored her motions, entwining their fingers again when she was done, the rings beside one another on their hands.
It was picture perfect, but neither of them reached for their phones, instead focused on each other, their knees brushing under the warm kotatsu.
“Mari-tō,” Kagami finally murmured, “you need to eat. You need the calories after the battle last night. And I confess to being rather hungry myself.”
Marinette giggled, sounding as young as she had when they’d met, the sound almost self-conscious. “Of course, mon beignet. I’m so hungry I could eat you.”
Heat rose to Kagami’s cheeks at the suggestion. “I certainly would enjoy that… but after you’ve had breakfast, ma mandarine.”
A blush rose to Marinette’s cheeks, and she knew her fiancée was remembering what they had done the night before. If that pet name garnered that reaction, she’d absolutely be using it more often.
One of her favorite things about their relationship was that everything had become a friendly and sometimes erotic competition, from the symbolism war to the development of pet names. Kagami was absolutely never bored with Marinette, and was always intellectually stimulated by her quick wit.
Marinette reluctantly let go of Kagami’s hand to remove the covers from the trays in front of them. Both trays had a Japanese breakfast featuring oyakodon, tamagoyaki cut into thick slices with thin wedges of avocado between each, and a variety of side dishes, as well as fruit and some pastries. Marinette’s tray was absent of natto, which she had tried early on and determined she was not a fan of, but the rest of the dishes were all ones she had tried and the cook knew she enjoyed. The pastries were obviously fresh from Tom and Sabine’s bakery, likely picked up on the way home from the jeweler.
They said nothing more, focusing on eating until all that was left on their trays was the fruit and some of the pastries, which Kagami knew from experience they would snack on the rest of the morning.
Only then did Kagami pull their phones over from the other side of the kotatsu where they were charging, unplugging them. She handed Marinette hers.
“Shall we check what has been said on social media?” she asked with a smile.
Marinette grinned in answer and unlocked her phone, calling up her Instagram. “Hundreds of notifs. You?”
“About a thousand, but it seems many of those are Adrien tagging us on posts that include pictures and video other people took at the airport.”
They leaned closer so they could see each other’s screens as they scrolled through.
adrienagrestebrand: The videos seriously made me tear up. Beautiful! You look so happy.
alya.ladyblogger: I’m with Adrien. Holy cow, you two take romance to a whole new level! #ninoneedsaninstagram says he’s up for DJing if you want.
kittysection.band: Rose actually cried watching. Looking forward to the nuptials!
More of Marinette’s classmates offered congratulations as well, including those in other classes at Collège Françoise Dupont.
jaggedrocks.official: Congrats! I look forward to meeting my niece-in-law! I’m totally writing a song for the reception!
Marinette was sent into a giggle-fit at Jagged’s reply. Kagami stared at her, not certain whether her mother would be pleased with the rock star providing the music at the event.
“Remember, it’s our wedding, not anyone else’s. I’d love him to play a few songs,” Marinette said finally when she saw Kagami’s expression. “But I think just a few. Maybe have Kitty Section play one or two. Maybe let Nino DJ a couple songs, too. But otherwise, we’ll decide what we want music-wise.”
Right under Jagged’s comment was one by rockncrocsitter, which Marinette explained was Penny Rolling’s personal account. We’ll get in touch for deets - in Paris in 2wks. Lovely proposal!
gathersnomoss: Our favorite designer @marinettedesigned has gotten engaged to her lady love! Gonna be a rockin wedding!
That was their joint account, as it turned out. The next one was Clara Nightingale’s personal account, though it was followed immediately by her professional one.
singsweetnightingale: Like Jagged, a song I shall write - I hope to receive a wedding invite!
clara.nightingale: The engagement of a muse, such incredible news!
That made four possible musicians.
“You don’t know any other musicians, I hope,” Kagami said with a soft laugh.
Marinette grinned. “Well, XY, but ew. Plus he’s a plagiarist, not a real musician.”
They were in absolute agreement on that.
Some responses, unfortunately and predictably, were racist and/or homophobic. They reported those comments and blocked the offenders, as engaging with them was a waste of energy. Kagami wouldn’t let mediocre trolls touch the wonderful mood they were in.
They also had replies from reporters. Alec Cataldi’s was particularly obnoxious, largely because he posted requests for an interview every couple hours like the desperate wash-up he was. Regardless, with his penchant for ridiculing his guests, Kagami had no intention of being interviewed by him. Nadja Chamack had privately messaged her congratulations to Marinette, and asked if she and Kagami would be making a public statement; much more professional.
Marinette found one that made her laugh for over a minute; only then was she able to tell Kagami it was the account Jagged had made for Fang.
rockincroc: I’m ring bearer, yeah?
“Mother would be appalled.” Kagami laughed. “Let’s put it on the maybe list.”
Marinette left the kotatsu just long enough to grab a sketchbook from her bag, and they spent a pleasant several hours fleshing out wedding possibilities.
