Simon Says/Jackady

Simon Says is called Jackady simply because that's how the game is called in French: "Jackady" is a made up name that sounds like "Jacques a dit", which means "Jack said". You're only supposed to perform the action if the leader says "Jackady a dit" (~"Jacksaid said").

Additionally, Simon Grimault (the hypnotist) is called Jacques Grimault in French to also conform to the game.

Alec

En: So, Nino, you're a student and a DJ.

Fr: Alors Nino, tu es le meilleur DJ de ton collège.

So Nino, youre the best DJ from your (middle) school.

C'mon English dub, please appreciate Nino more!! He isn't just a simple DJ, but the best from his school!

Simon Says to Alec

En: Silence! Simon says you're lame. As lame as a duck.

Fr: Silence! Jacques a dit, personne ne t'aime ! Tu es un vilain petit canard.

Silence! Jacques said no one loves you! You're an ugly duckling.

Adrien (as Chat Noir) calls Gabriel "dad" in the English dub, but "père" (father) in French. It's quite uncommon to do that and reflects the distance and respect he has to pay to Gabriel.

Chat Noir

En: I may not always land on my feet, but I always bounce back.

Fr: Prépare toi vieux singe, je vais t'apprendre à faire la grimace.

Get ready old monkey, I'm gonna teach you how to pull a face (lit.).

In French, "you can't teach an old monkey how to make a face" is the equivalent of the English "you can't teach an old dog new tricks".

Gabriel

En: I have to apologise for my son, Ladybug. He's like his mother, way too overly dramatic.

Fr: Il faut excuser la conduite de mon fils, Ladybug. Il est comme était sa mère, extrêmement sensible.

You have to excuse my son's behaviour, Ladybug. He's like his mother was, extremely sensitive.

I feel like Gabriel's comment is way less derogatory towards Emily in French than in English.

Gabriel to Ladybug, about Adrien

En: Isn't he flawless?

Fr: Il est parfait, n'est ce pas ?

He's perfect, isn't he?

Hmmm perfect? as his parents created him? 🦚

Ladybug and Adrien, at the same time

En: She's got your eyes.

Fr: Tu as son sourire.

You have her smile.

The line doesn't really make sense in English. I mean, whatever Emily's eye colour is, Adrien and Ladybug don't even have the same??? Whereas a smile is something anyone can have.

Gabriel when he gets "turned" into a butterfly

En: Flutter, Flutter, flap flap

Fr: Flop flop! flop flop! flop flop!

It's not much of a difference but it's funny to remind everyone that this happened haha.

Chat Noir to Gabriel

En: Prefer Ladybug? Can't say I blame you.

Fr: On vient de vous sauver. Ne nous remerciez pas surtout.

We just saved you. No need to thank us (sarcastically).

A thought to the Agreste Mansion security system

Anyone else genuinely concerned that Gabriel, with only one hand print on his security system screen

Is able to lock up the entire agreste mansion from the outside AND inside. Every door, every window, everything is shut down including Adriens room from which normally his only escape is his window?

Yeeeeah nah, no getting out there anymore :/

And the only (non extremely violent) way to move around the mansion are the control remotes which oh who would have thought are located in Gabriels office too

(though to be fair there COULD be more hidden in other parts of the mansion. But that definitely isn't said for sure)

I mean, not to turn up the drama to an 11 (I surely would NEVER do that, you know me) but if Gabriel ever at some point, for whatever reason, wanted to lock Adrien up FOR REAL, he could totally do that and very effectively and brutal if I may say so

And I fear the day when he does because Adrien getting locked up for real in his home is forshadowed like hell

So once again

In other words:

Fuck Gabriel Agreste. And Emilie, you're on thin ice Lady. Thin fucking ice.

Can you answer my doubt, please? I never get why Adrien says "you have her smile" along with Ladybug in the Simon Says episode. Like, they're talking about his mother, so who is the "you" in his phrase?

It makes no sense because Adrien should’ve said “she’s got my eyes”, unless he’s making some sort of comparison between his emotions when he looks at his mother’s eyes and Ladybug’s.  I screencapped the English subtitles from Netflix (I have no idea why this line is all caps) and this is what they both say in the English version, but I’m guessing it’s not an accurate translation.  I listened to the French and is sounds like they’re saying the same thing, but I don’t know French so I can’t tell.

It would also make more sense to say “she’s got your smile”.  But it’s eyes in the English one.  For some reason.  Go figure -_-
