☉ what do you do when you get stuck writing?

I don't have a lot of great techniques! I've been stuck with my original writing for quite a while. Rereading what I've already written or looking at my notes sometimes helps, though. Thanks for the ask!

15. What's the weirdest thing that's inspired you to write a fic?

There are probably other weird ones if I thought about it, but one of my Carry On fics was based on the idea of a version of Jane Eyre where the big secret was that one of them is a vampire.

loveeeeeeeee love love Ronan defending Adam against Adam's shitty dad but I don't think it ought to be called the first pynch scene on account of that is blatant 'Ronan teaches Adam to drive stick' erasure ✨ very first book and like Adam's POV is all "black painted poetry" and we don't get Ronan's POV tragically but lbr we know how Gansey reacted to Blue driving the Camaro was only like a quarter of how Ronan must have been reacting to watching Adam drive stick in his own mind where is that gif of that lady fainting at church

no yeah i know, and this is not a hill i need to die on at all—

but i don't think that scene (and it's really only the introduction to a scene) counts as a Pynch Scene. it doesn't really progress their relationship or show us anything about ronan, not to mention that gansey and noah are sitting there watching them 🤷‍♀️

idk if you were posting the McFassy tidbit like 'I have one random scene I'm not gonna use so I'll just post' or if you're thinking about expanding it, but I love it <3 and if you had ideas for more that'd be awesomeeee

Um, sort of both! Like, I found it and I have no clue where it might go now (since it was a first start at a story that went and did something else), so I figured, might as well post it…

…and maybe in so doing, it’ll poke my brain and turn into something more? Maybe. No promises. We shall see. :-)

(I dunno if I'm bugging you plz lemme know if I am) I saw posts about James pinching Michael's ass and I thought of you first, ha ha. I love how I may not know if the movies will be dumb with some sort of Erik Raven Hank triangle or whatevs but James and Michael just being in the same place is always a a treat

Not bugging me at all! (I have however been SUPER-BUSY with job-related things the last couple of weeks so am very behind on replies. I love you all!)

The McFassy just makes me smile. Like, yeah, I write fic for them (for fictional versions of them that let me play with the what-if of these personalities), but IRL I just really love their friendship and how comfortable they are together and how they seem to click so well. Like Michael said once, it’s about a level of trust that “goes somewhere else, for sure.” :-p

Re: Lowell: Yeah. I don’t know if you’ve watched the show runner’s older show, Veronica Mars (if not, you should because it’s great!), but a similar plot point happened there so I kind of suspected it was coming.

I just looked it up and apparently there are only two episodes left in the season (where has the time gone?!). It’ll be interesting to see how far they advance the plot and what loose ends they leave for next season (it’s not officially renewed yet, but likely will be from what I’ve heard).

Hey! So here it is. (This is gonna take more than one ask I'll let you know when I'm done I swear.) I really really love your fic. I have for a long time but I've never commented or let you know publicly. I have anon'd you a few times. Then just a little bit ago I ate a strawberry and a seed and it got stuck in my teeth and my legit first thought was Charles and Erik discussing safe words and Charles being like 'those seeds suck tho' [1]

And somehow the seed thing brought home for me that if I think about you and things you’ve written so fast in my day to day life I really ought to just try talking to you. Which I manage to make more perplexing than it has to be. I mean, from that framework, it sounds so rational I don’t know what I didn’t get before? Yet on the other hand, it sounds like textbook coming on too strong? But, I feel like I can succeed in this if I try. Ha ha.[2]

Basically I’m endeavoring to cut off future awkwardness by telling you up front. I’m super super into your Cherik and McFassy. As in, you cannot overestimate how into them I am. I don’t know your Stucky and Evanstan cuz I’m not as in to that pairing? As in, plz understand the pairing didn’t grab me it’s not you at all. [4]

Thank you thank you! I love hearing that my fic has sort of seeped into people’s consciousnesses (mwahahaha) –but seriously, that’s just so. neat. that things I’ve written actually have tiny impacts on people’s everyday lives, that’s just about the best thing you can tell a writer, so thank YOU. (also I need to get back to the compromise series because that’s where the strawberry thing is from, which is also a reflection of my own love-hate relationship with them: I love the taste, hate tiny seeds and messiness…)

Cherik and McFassy will always have a special place in my heart (and I’m not done writing for them!), as the first pairings where I got really heavily invested and productive as a fic writer, and made real friendships in a fandom. (I’d written a few Supernatural things and lurked around the edges shyly, but never dove in headfirst.) So I love love love seeing other people fall in love with the fandoms, too. Now we can all cry over Charles Xavier and marvel at James McAvoy’s kindness together. <33
