sry mnt gaiden is still on the mind
This is a little sequel to my original writing thing. This is an MNTG Michelangelo sequel based second shot because I wanted to see little Daniel all grown up!
Read the original one shot here

*BAM*
"What the..?" Raph and Mikey jerked their heads in the direction of the noise. It was close by, and both of them automatically started in the direction of the explosion. Emerging cautiously from the trees that were their cover, Raph realized in horror where the events were unfolding.
"Holy shit it's . . ." he stared, before he realized Mikey was already gone. "Damn it" he growled chasing after his brother. "Don't do anything stupid Mikey. I know ya like tha place but ya gotta wait for help!!!!"
*********************************
Daniel had only been an EMT for 6 months and had his dream job of interning with a local FD. He loved it, but it was hard work. It was terrifying work. And it was rewarding. He never knew what the day might hold. This particular day had been slow and he had just tossed a sandwich into the toaster oven to pass the time with a little lunch. The call came in that there had been an explosion near his location and he and his team were on their way in seconds. He'd barely been able to turn off the oven before he'd grabbed his gear and been the first on the engine.
He watched as they pulled up, the realization of where they were hitting him hard. He knew the place. He'd grown up there. They were among the first on the scene, and he was treating all the first initial stragglers caught in the blast as those lucky enough to escape unscathed were ushered out of harms way as the fireman leapt into action. Another fire department arrived and began a rescue effort, entering the building to find other survivors. He wanted to go in and help, but he knew he wasn't trained for a situation like this. He would be most helpful outside, helping those who needed to be treated and taken to the hospital.
******************************** Raph arrived in what couldn't have been more than a minute or two after Mikey. It was broad daylight so he couldn't just run out in the open, but he was sure Mikey had. Another explosion erupted from the building and R
Raph threw up an arm to shield his face from the heat and any debris. "MIKEY!!!" he screamed, no longed caring if anyone saw him as he sprinted toward the burning building. He knew his brother had run inside. And inside just burst in to even more flames.
******************************** *Cough*
"Watch out!"
*shriek*
Mikey grabbed the youth and spun, turning his back to any incoming pieces of the building or flames flicking out after the second blast. He felt his shell being singed and many small pieces of something strike him. The girl in his arms looked up at him, clearly not sure if she should be more terrified of her savior or the burning building.
"Get out, right over there. Fire fighters will be here any minute ok? Go find them."
The kid stared up at him for a moment, mouth open, and Mikey almost started to yell at her to get her moving.
"A group, a bunch went downstairs. Just before."
"Oh. Oh no. Okay. Get out okay? Tell them that. Tell them someone went to get them. They need to come find us." The girl looked confused and Mikey realized why.
"Don't tell them who. Just tell them someone. They won't believe you. They need help and if they think you're seeing things they won't believe you. Ok? I'm just some guy who was passing by."
She nodded and Mikey pushed her toward the open door, then raced to the nearest stairs leading to the basement.
************************ Daniel looked around. The fireman were moving fast. From a distance he saw a girl rush out of the building straight to the nearest fireman, who nodded and pointed over at himself.
He motioned for the her to join him and started with simple conversation to keep her calm as he checked her over. "You look ok, mostly. Are you having a little trouble breathing? Does anything hurt? Here, sit down and tell me what you told the firefighter while I give you a quick check up."
"I said some kids went downstairs, just before. And someone went after them."
"Someone?"
She shifted from the usual shock he was used to to anxious.
"That's good to know. We can be ready then. You’ll be ok” he told the girl. “And you probably saved their lives telling someone right away.” Daniel wondered who or what would make the kid so nervous. He suspected he might already knew. Then again, it wouldn't be the first time he'd thought that.
Other emergency vehicles were arriving and taking those most severely injured to the hospital, but something in his gut was telling him to stay. He waited impatiently outside, watching for the person she had told him had run in to emerge.
*********************** Mikey found the kids, 6 of them, huddled in a corner under some debris that had by some miracle not completely collapsed on them. He quickly shoved what he could out of the way.
“Come on! I’m getting you out of here!”
The kids barely seemed to take notice of what he was and he couldn’t blame them. If your life was in danger and someone clearly strong and bold enough to save you, you probably wouldn’t question anything about it.
Saying it proved to be much easier than doing it. The fire had grown in the few moments he’d taken to find them and most of the ways out that he knew of were blocked. Except, he suddenly remembered, one. A decade ago he had needed a quick escape. If it was still there, they would be okay.
He pulled the chain of children into a room and he proceeded to shove shelves and bins away from a wall in an absolute frenzy. Thankfully, he quickly found the window, badly sealed up and easy enough to burst open with enough pounding from his nunchuku. As the weak barrier fell apart he yelled for help as he slammed his fist over and over into the rotten wood of a forgotten door.
*********************"
Mikey!!!!" Raphael was shouting, avoiding the people as best as he could but only out of habit. His brother disappeared, explosions kept bursting in his ears, and he was desperate.
"Mike!?!?! Where are you goddammit??"
He watched as a girl ran from the building to an EMT. He was close enough to hear 'someone went after them', and he bolted toward where the girl had come from. There was nothing but a door, but he ignored the smoke and flames and scouted the perimeter of the building, looking for any egress windows or view inside where someone might be try to escape.
"Dammit Mikey why you gotta do this on your own still?"
******************** Daniel jerked his head in the direction of voices coming from the building. As an EMT he was very experience in distinguishing cries for help from general screams of panic. It had to be the group the girl references, but he couldn't see anyone. It was more than loud enough for him to hear though, so he sprinted toward the voices. Mouth covered and knowing he was breaking protocol he trudged forward through the thick smoke and heat of flames that were far closer than he realized. His eyes stung but he could still clearly make out the figure of a large figure, shouting and pounding on what looked to just be the outer wall of the building, tucked away down in what looked to be basement access. "You! Hey! Help me! Please!"
Daniel stared in disbelief as his body reacted, doing its best to try and break into the wall. "You....you're...."
"Later" the figure grunted. "My stupid brother is in there. Ran in to find some kids. Of course he did. I can hear him and this looks like it's been patched up. Must be an old door or sumthin' Just help me!"
Marcus didn't verbally respond, but just pounded the wall. He doubted he was making near the dent that his counterpart was but he did it anyway. His knuckles and nails started to throb with pain as he slammed his fists against the wall and scratch at it with his fingers. He could hear the cries of children and he threw his whole body against the wall in an effort to keep up with his new ally.
"Mikey!!!!" the turtle next to him screamed, panicked. He heard a faint response followed by a blow so powerful from his partner that the wall finally crumbled to reveal a tiny hole between them and the victims.
The voice that trained back through was full of relief. "Raph!! Thank god, Raph. Help me out! I've got 6 kids in here and fire is already in the room!!"
"I've got you Mike, stand back!!"
Daniel scooted back instinctively and watched as the hulking form before him stepped back, then flung himself at the hole. After three repetitions the whole thing collapsed and he saw an identical hand smashing against the remaining rubble. Moments later a boy stepped through the hole barely big enough to accommodate him. Daniel blinked and brought himself back to his duties, grabbing the boy to give him a quick check and get him out of the way as more came through. Both turtle men frantically tore at the hole, making it bigger for the other kids, then rest of them poured out. Marcus barely managed a glance back to the heroes as he ushered the kids away, just enough to see his new friend pulling the other out and dragging him to safety.
Other EMTs had seen him and rushed over. Daniel let them take the kids and turned back to the turtles who were a distance away already, out of the direct line of sight.
"Are you all right?" "M'good" the one in red muttered. "Mike?"
The other turtle had a coughing spasm, but appeared okay as the three of them stumbled away.
"M'okay" he groaned as he spat black ash mixed with spit. "Thanks" "Mikey?"
Neither turtle paid his whisper any attention.
"You're . . . Michelangelo?"
He's Michelangelo" Raph grunted. "I'm his brother. How'd you know? Who are ya?"
Mikey finally paused from his coughing and frantic rubbing of his smoke and tear filled eyes and looked at him. "You're, I know you?" "You do. I think." Raph helped his brother sit down on the grass, not giving the human any thought. "Mike, that was stupid! Why'd ya do that without waiting for me? Huh?" "Because this is his place" Daniel mumbled. "He watches over this place." "Well duh he's always had a soft spot for this place but that doesn't mean he's alone" the gruff turtle retorted as he brushed away soot from Michelangelo checking for burns.
"Yeah I, sorry Raph I just couldn't, I couldn't wait there were *cough* kids in there, there's probably still more! I need to go back!!"
"I Don't think so bro. They got it covered okay? That place is goin' off like the fourth of July, you're not going back in."
"But"
"He's right" Daniel finally found his words. "You can't go back. It's too dangerous and anyone still trapped in there isn't going to make it out. I'm sorry."
"I know you" Michelangelo said again. "You were here. Dan . . .Daniel?"
Daniel smiled. "Yeah. I can't believe you remember."
"I can't believe you remember me." "You make an impression."
Mikey coughed and laughed "So did you."
"I . . . I've been waiting to see you again. I can't believe this is how. Are you all right?" Daniel remembered himself and knelt down, checking Mikey as best as he could.
"Yeah, yeah kiddo I'm fine. I'll be fine. You need to go check on those kids. You don't need to be thinking about us."
"There's more of you."
"Yeah. Obviously. Look, I'll pay you a visit okay? But right now you're clearly a person that needs to be over there, not here. I'll find you and we can talk later. I promise."
"Mikey, you know we can't just" "It's good Raph. It's okay. I know this kid. He deserves a chat. Let's just, let's go home okay? I can barely breath, and I need a shower."
"If you're having trouble I can give you . ."
"It's okay. I promise that too. I'm fine. It comes with the territory of not being human."
The coughs in between words didn't encourage him, but Daniel conceded, knowing he was more needed elsewhere. "Do you really promise? I need to talk to you."
"Promise. What division are you with?"
"I'm interning with . . "
Another explosion followed by screams cased him to cut himself short and rush toward the people. He stopped for a second to look back at the two turtles. Raphael just waved him off. "He'll find ya. Don't worry. Go do your thing."
