Katniss conveniently leaving out who got the geese for Haymitch makes me think "but Peeta wanted them so badly" is her way of saying "I wanted them just as badly, but I'm not telling you"
Everlark kids...
I wish we got their names but I do think it's cool that we as a fandom can just guess whatever we want.
i love that we never learn anything about katniss and peetas kids
i love that they finally got their privacy and they got to be so happy and in love and have a family on their own terms
i hate when people act like the kids canonically have names (willow and rye are headcanons, popular headcanons but headcanons nonetheless)
we don't know their names AND THAT IS INTENTIONAL AND IMPORTANT !!!
I just realized Haymitch mentions his children in the SOTR epilogue, just like Katniss mentions her children in the Mockingjay epilogue.
nothing pisses me off more then when people put Katniss on their list of female characters who got bad endings because they got married and had children when they originally didn’t want to.
like, do you not have any comprehension at all? Did you read the book? She said she didn’t want children because why the hell would she while living in the world she was in? Of course one would have second thoughts about procreating when at best their children will be starving and poor and at worst have to battle other children to the death.
and she was sixteen when she said that. A child. obviously her life choices are at liberty to change over twenty years and a whole ass government reformation.
Katniss is also a very naturally protective and caring person to those younger than her (prim and rue) and those she views as weaker or needing her help (wiress, mags and peeta when he’s injured) so don’t start with the ‘she wouldn’t be good at taking care of kids’ kind of rhetoric.
don’t get me wrong I hate when writer make female characters get pregnant when it’s out of character for them or or explicitly stated they don’t want kids *cough penny in The Big Bang Theory cough* but Katniss just isn’t one of them, she can be a person outside of motherhood and being a wife, it doesn’t define her.
What if I told you that Peeta was the tradwife? What then?
Thinking ab epilogue Everlark,,,
I wonder how long it took until Peeta was fully comfortable around Katniss again. I wonder how Haymitch reacted to them saying they were expecting when he knows he himself wouldn't have been able to with games-related ptsd. I wonder if Effie tried to help Peeta rebuild something similar to his family's bakery.
I'd like to think that maybe sometimes Katniss talks ab Madge to Haymitch and maybe Peeta goes on walks with Delly and just maybe a few years after the revolution Katniss and Peeta wanted to get married for real and it was a very very small ceremony of District 12 traditions and Katniss gets to be truly happy for just a moment knowing she wont have to worry about poverty or hunger or oppressive government and maybe that's the first time she realizes she never thought about if she WANTED any of these things or if it would've just been ethically cruel in Old Panem so she never allowed herself to wonder about the possibilities.
I'd like to think she misses Gale because he was her closest friend for so long but now she can't even look at him. She's angry that he won't her her children's uncle and she blames him for that. He has deprived her children of being able to know her family and in doing so they'll never know her oldest friend either.
