I like to think the local shops in the games take a portion of the profits from products like mayonnaise and cheese, the ones from the makers, in exchange for stocking the ingredients the MC doesn’t have to worry about (oil for mayonnaise, rennet and cultures for cheese, etc). And I think it would be even cooler if they added a partnership aspect to new games where you provide the base fruits/vegetables/whatever and townspeople create the finished product.
