1x1x1x1 (a quick rant about character writing, I mean no offence to anyone, I just want to share my thoughts. but don't read if you get angry very easily about ships near the end, I get brutally honest about it.)
A lot of writing for 1x1x1x1 feels so fucking shallow. I am still wrapping my head around how to write 1x, they are a difficult character to write, but so many interpretations of them are just so... dry.
The interpretations of them either water down the hatred aspect or make hatred take up so much of their personality they're not even a character anymore, just an unfinished concept.
What I think people miss in characters that are so hateful, is that a lot of hateful people are either depressed or narcissistic.
1x1x1x1 is a narcissist and depressed in my eyes. Seeing everyone around them as lower than them and thinking they can do no wrong, yet seeing everything through a blindfolded perspective. The world is bleak to them, lacking any true meaning to it. Everything around them is so worthless in comparison to them that it makes them livid, and if everything is worthless, that means it must be their purpose to destroy it all. Get rid of all these pointless, worthless things. They see themselves as some sort of saviour, curing the world from its filthy existence.
This feels like a good way to interpret them while still leaving the most microscopic entry into character development, and even though I know damn well people will give me shit for that, they don't realize how fucking annoying 1x would be to rehabilitate without fucking up his character.
Speaking of mischaracterization, do you know how many people have given ships with 1x involved shit while also shipping another one? A ton. I'm sure a lot of people know what I'm referring to, and no 1xdoe shippers this is not directed towards your ship, simply SOME of your behaviours towards other ships.
If you hate on a ship because 1x would hate the character without prior time to warm up to said character and improve as a person, then ship them with another character that 1x would hate without prior time to warm up to the character and improve as a person; You are a massive fucking hypocrite.
I genuinely HATE having to say this type of bullshit on the internet, but holy fuck, the double standard is crazy.
I literally don't care if you dislike a ship, go ahead and do that. That's completely valid. But it does not give you the go ahead to go hate on other people's ships. If you wanna share your thoughts on a ship you dislike, go right ahead! There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, and I love seeing other people's perspectives on them, it personally helps me EXPONENTIALLY as a writer!
I just hate the amount of hypocrisy targeted on other ships, especially when it's clear the other person hasn't even considered the other sides reasoning on the ship.
The fact that I have had to hesitate before posting ship art because I was scared of someone I knew disliking me for it. At the end of the day its just harmless fun, and I don't mean for people to feel bad just because I make a few posts every now and then about a ship they don't like.
I am of firm belief that canon 1x1x1x1 would beat the shit out of someone who disagrees with them. But that would be in a story portraying them as a villain. If you want a version of 1x where they get better, don't rush into it. We all know damn well that fucker would be dragged through their redemption arc kicking and screaming like the stubborn bastard they are, and I wish I saw more of it.
I like the idea of someone who can be best described as a tyrant being dragged back down to earth by force and finally realizing at least a sliver of the worth the world around them has.
1x1x1x1 is a flawed character.
They are arrogant, they are cruel, selfish, self-centred, and have a down-right delusional outlook on the world. But that doesn't mean they are unable to change,
and its that which bothers me so much about how many write 1x1x1x1.
