“How broken is a society where a mother is told she has anxiety because she doesn’t want to be away from her child for too long? Wanting to be close to your child is as natural and instinctual as it gets. It is not a medical condition; it’s called attachment and it’s incredibly healthy and fulfilling for both mother and child.” J. Milburn Edited to add: It seems an explanation is necessary here. I do not want people with PPA feeling offended, quite the opposite. What I am saying is, wanting to be around your child all the time, is not a symptom of anxiety. That does not mean that a mother who has anxiety won’t also not want to leave their child and vice versa. I have anxiety, along with panic attacks from PTSD. I am very sensitive to mental health issues. I am just tired of hearing mom’s say they have been told they have anxiety because they won’t leave their child with someone they don’t trust over night. That’s not anxiety. You may feel anxiety over the thought of it but simply not being ok with it, should not be considered a symptom of anxiety. So many other symptoms for diagnosis. It’s just not necessary to make mom’s feel bad about loving their babies, anxiety or not ❤️ This post is a response to a mom who is being bullied by her family because she won’t leave her 7 mo child with them for the night. They are telling her she has severe PPA. I just feel like I hear this all the time. I had PPA with my first and it did not feel like this post at all.
