Sometimes teens love living like pigs. It is usually a sign that they don’t see things the same way we see them as parents. They are trying to control everything they can in their world because everything is out of their control. So a messy room is what they can control. When we go ballistic they begin to control us. Two birds😂. What did our rooms like when we were their age? Be honest. If your room was a pig pen how did your parents react? We have to remember that our children are not us. We have to remember that the way we were raised most likely won’t work for our children. Hopefully we learned something from our parents! What not to do! So when you are ready to chat about something with your teenager please remember to be specific. They are not mind readers and if we are not connected with them they tune most of what is coming out of our mouths out. We need to ask them to do what we would like them to do and not order them around because that is what they envision as control and will run from us all day long. So be polite even if It is hard, make the request with specifics, get a timeframe on the action plan and let them know how grateful you are for helping you out because that will allow you to do xyz. They may surprise your or maybe not.
