He says to Shinsou "I think it's so lovely how your hair matches my eyes." And Shinsou is like... what?
Monoma stares at him for a few seconds, looking a little insecure. He knows he's fucked up but he still continues. "Your hair is a soft blue, is it... not?" He knows the answer by the look on Shinsou's face.
It changes from baffled to realisation. "Oh my god, Neito, are you colourblind?!"
It is then Monoma discovers that Shinsou's hair is, in fact, purple.
Also, if I may just point out, other than black and white, the only colours in his hero costume are blue and gold. If you're familiar with how people with deuteranopia see colour, you'll know why that's important.
Monobaku friendship is so important to me... they definitely get closer post war but they're still absolutely evil to each other.
I mostly think about the graduation manga panel where they're setting off explosions, jumping over Iida. Bakugou, of course, does not ask for Monoma's help, but Monoma certainly offers it. Bakugou pretends to be annoyed that he's now planning his fireworks display with someone else. He doesn't need help, he doesn't, he doesn't! But, he appreciates it.
He never thanks Monoma after the fact, but he does tell him "two times the explosions made it way more awesome", which is basically the same.
i've often wondered what the hell is going on with shinsou's hair. why does it stick up the way it does. does he do it on purpose? it's obviously capable of laying flat on his head, we see it in the timeskip. of course, i have answered this question for myself and i've obviously made it monoshin.
shinsou's hair defies gravity in that way because he just doesn't take care of it. it's neglected, it's kinda gross. (quick sidenote, i dont know how hair works i have pinstraight hair). anyway, monoma fixes it. how?
monoma stays over at shinsou's one night, and when he's in the bathroom he looks at the products in there. AND HE IS ABHORRED. BECAUSE WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT BOTTLE? he immediately calls shinsou into the bathroom and points at it (he daren't touch it, its obviously tainted).
"HITOSHI. PLEASE DON'T TELL ME YOU WASH YOURSELF WITH 12 IN 1 SHAMPOO CONDITIONER SHOWER GEL BODY WASH MOUTHWASH TOOTHPASTE EYEDROPS DEODORANT PAINT THINNER PEANUT BUTTER MOTOR OIL."
the next time they're out, monoma walks him around the supermarket saying he needs to get different bottles for his shampoo and conditioner. he needs to wash his body with a different bottle too! no more 2, 3, 4 in 1! monoma will NOT cuddle him if he continues to use that GARBAGE.
he gets shinsou actual haircare products, for his hair type. and gradually overtime, shinsou's hair stops sticking up in the air like it's using uraraka's zero gravity. monoma likes to brush and wash it for him :)
I'm not entirely sure how much time passes from the end of the war from when everyone goes back to UA (I think a week and a bit passes before we get that scene in the hospital) but by then we're in June.
So...
Monoma probably spent his birthday in the hospital.
Thinking about Kirishima without hesitation putting his hand on Monoma's shoulder during the joint training arc, despite knowing how his quirk works, despite what happened at the sports festival.
After the session is over, Bakugou (jealous) comments about how chummy Kirishima seems with Monoma. With a little bit of a venoms, Bakugou asks "are you weirdly into him or something?".
Kirishima responds "about as much as I'm weirdly into you." And, well, he gets flustered. He didn't exactly mean to say it out loud. He almost regrets it, but Bakugou doesn't let him.
Anyway, they have a little talk with Monoma later.
Chapter 431 goes into a little bit of detail on debuting on the hero charts. I'm thinking about Kirishima talking about how he got a later start on his solo career than some others.
It's only stated Monoma is number 10. It's not stated what he debuted as (Bakugou is stated as number 15, originally 4. Kaminari is said to have debuted at 44). And I want to know what rank he starts at.
10 is quite high for a debut, but so is 4. Both Bakugou and Monoma were directly involved with the fight against Shigaraki which is globally known, so the idea that Monoma debuted at 10 isn't entirely outlandish.
But, he wasn't in the spotlight as much as Bakugou and Deku during that fight. He didn't actually do any fighting. So, I feel like given what the public knew of him already, he probably seemed very support-based.
(People's claims of saying Monoma would be sidelined make sense. Realistically, he's got the perfect quirk for a sidekick. He learns to harness the power of strong hero and they work together. Quirk-wise, that makes sense. Of course, not personality wise! Monoma would never settle for that!!!)
He debuts high, I think. He has to. I always thought he'd be in the late teens, early twenties at best when Deku mentions him and Honenuki are doing well in the rankings. Sorry for underestimating you...
His debut is in the twenties. He gets traction fast. He's charismatic, confident and good at what he does. In terms of the rating period, he debuts late. Maybe there's only two months of time left before the ranking is called. He gets a lot of approval during that time. The HPSC love him (HAWKS LET HIM COPY YOUR QUIRK!!!!!!!).
By the time he gets a full year to show off his stuff, ohh boy he's climbing up quick. 10 may be his current peak... but it's not stopping there.
Move over Mirio.
I HAVE MORE THOUGHTS... I'll post later maybe (they may be Monoshin inclined).
I've been singing the Pop☆Step song in my head almost all day. So... currently entertaining the idea that 10-year-old Monoma (Vigilantes timeline) is a huge fan of her songs. He doesn't have social media or anything, but he's seen some of her performances on YoTube. He doesn't really know WHO she is, he just likes the songs.
