For the first time since I started writing monster!Bucky Barnes before I got sick and started feeling like utter garbo...

I may or may not have- in the past like, 4 days, developed the insatiable urge to not just make a literal monster man out Simon, the main character from the Iron lung movie after the events that take place in said movie as an AU, but also...

Below the cut: Long ass post, Iron Lung ending mention, brief Iron Lung discussion that's probably not 100% lore accurate but who cares we're not here for that, sfw monster man/terato talk, fish-like monster mutation mentions, brief missing limb mention, mention of a fem!reader or oc in passing (literal blink and you miss it).

I guess I sort of had the idea to mix things up and pluck the strings of the typical "Am I still a man or am I a monster?" mixed with the Frankenstein-esque trope where Simon struggles with re-adapting to life amongst other humans now due to being both "The Butcher" on top of having been mutated by the god/eldritch creature beyond the light which some how "saved" him by keeping him alive after the explosion.

The concept I had with this is that- whatever entity or "god" this was that wanted to "see" into our world could only see so much, but the explosion Simon caused so close to the light some how- in that split second, widened the gap, and allowed it to stretch its influence out into Simons world and- as he was dying- it stitched him back together, replacing what the explosion had taken from him and, y'know, where he ripped off his arm, lol.

I don't really want to spoil my idea for how Simon looks but there would definitely be some fish like features, especially on the side he lost his arm. Scales on the neck, his back, the entire arm would be monstrous of course, or who knows maybe slap some tentacles on that side over there while we're at it lol.

He'd also probably get weird 'hungers' now too, which could either be a part of the creatures he's now merged with, or the god inside of him.

Because who doesn't love deep seeded, foreign, insatiable urges and appetites? >:3c I did say this was a monster fucker/terato post after all lol.

Anyways, I imagine that now that he's back on the station, he doesn't... know how to be.. himself, again? Because the caution people had toward him before with whispers of "the butcher" on their lips is now replaced with praise and joy with him being "the savior". People want to shake his hand, touch his shoulder, possibly even going as far as to try and hug him in thanks for saving humanity and bringing back hope, hope to finding out what truly caused the quiet rapture.

And it's just.. so much. Too much. Too many people, too many faces. Too many voices. All blending together like the voices back in the Iron Lung from that wretched abomination... It makes his chest tight and the edges of his vision go dark...

Then of course he'd meet either the fem!OC/reader, who I wanted to possibly be the scientist who was there when he woke up, and/or possibly even an 'old friend' of sorts. Someone else who likes the quiet, just like he does...

And thus would begin the whole sad simon struggling with himself internally, "am I a man or am I a monster?" arc, not feeling worthy, being afraid of what he's feeling, the new, the old.. and the new insatiable hunger that's slowly forming like an itch along with it.

Y'know, all that good, painful, "I just wanna bend and break this blorbo" stuff. <3 :3

Let me know if anyone likes this idea. I'm very much motivated by treats the kind words of others who think similar to me, so.. hehe.

Okay I was going to wait until I was done with the whole lineup but I'm impatient for affirmation so-

Behold my monster!Simon design!

At least as close as I can get it to the vision in my head at the moment. We'll see if I can get the right hand to look better at some point lol.

I was trying to get across that the right hand stays more human whereas the left one isn't because you know... arm torn off, but that's not great for survival so the eel biology basically grows a new one but it's bigger and more dangerous bc it's not having to stick close(ish) to actual human hand shapes. Because Simon can transform between forms so it can't get tooooo far away from human biology if it wants to be able to go between them. Idk if that makes any sense to you but it makes sense to me so.

Oh another note based on that idk if you can see it but right at his hips I tried to make it so you could still see like... the vaguest outline of leg. Maybe I'll make it more clear later, but that's because the legs fuse into tail whereas in the partial form he gets a tail AND legs...

I'm probably thinking too hard about the logistics of this for what I actually need to know to write it but I'm having a good time lol.

Also the wip lineup if you're curious. Rip grace rn, I actually tried to do his face like twice and didn't like it and erased it immediately lol. So I just moved on to the other stuff and Imma try again later.

Anyways I stayed up to finish this so I'm going to bed rn.

So you know only female anglerfish have the lures. And also they're like wayyyyy bigger than the males. So I'm just saying that I think that monster!simon like has to be a trans man I don't make the rules.

Also it makes sense to me because you know if he didn't have access to any surgery or anything because resources are so scarce some trans men just bulk up a ton and then you can't tell what's breast and what's muscle.

Grace would eventually figure out and make t for him or maybe fish biology does the weird thing and switches the sex because it feels like it. Idk.

Also thinking about this in the context of my bloodymary au, I was playing with t4t for them bc I think it's fun, but also I like Grace not being super aware of his own feelings towards like... anything. Aroacespec nonbinary/agender Grace. It's all just a nebulous thing that kind of only exists if he really starts thinking about it. Which is not to say that nonbinary/agender people aren't/can't identify as trans if they want to, but for Grace he just exists. Grace is Grace and that's all he needs to know. (He just like me fr)

This is also the same logic I like to apply to a qpr bloodymary too btw. Like... it is a qpr in my mind but they don't need to say that. It just is. Especially on Erid without the expectations of general society. Like...

When I think about them obviously I love allllll the interpretations of their relationship, but idk to me it just is. It changes for them day to day and they just kind of find a rhythm. Like sometimes they don't kiss on the mouth and sometimes they bang. Sometimes Grace has sensory issues (tm) and sometimes he needs to be SQUISHED, and Simon is more than happy to be his weighted blanket. Sometimes Simon revels in the sheer gentle kindness that Grace gives him and sometimes he just can't be touched because of bad memories. Sometimes they can't get close enough to each other and sex is just the next best thing and sometimes holding hands is enough to ground them in the here and now.

Is this anything? Does this make sense?

Monster!Simon headcanon

As much as he wants to avoid the other monsters, when it comes to the 'young', Simon turns into the biggest softy known to man. The small monster even SMILES. That's just his inner dad coming out. Though, as Simon will never have kids himself - for many reasons, this would be a very rare feeling for him. So he'll just carry on being a grump by himself, when Simon is actually alone anyway.
