Critter Fic Update!

(As promised :>)

So I'm going to have to keep this short for a few reasons. Chief among them, things have been more stressful than usual at home and current events weigh heavy on my mind, so I haven't been able to dedicate as much time to writing as I would have liked.

I'll also admit that struggling with multiple WIPs hasn't done my mental health any favors, either. (Not that I can do much about it without cancelling things or forcing myself to write.)

Still, I can offer a quick rundown on what's up with all those stories I promised y'all at some point!

Beast Island Entrapdak fic - Still developing an outline with @kuurankaiho. Taking a break from it so we can both deal with our other affairs. But it ain't dead yet!

SVTFOE: Monstrosities of Magic - Me and @full-moon-phoenix are still brainstorming stuff but we got a general idea of where and what we want to do with this. Otherwise it's also on hold while we deal with other IRL stuff ...and/or hyperfixations.

Godzilla Chaos Theory - Been spending a long time brainstorming on this one, though I'm ashamed to admit most of it has been spent second-guessing or updating a bespoke lore document. But I'm proud to announce I'm officially starting the outline for this beast this month!

The Big Stretch (AKA the Jasper/Spinel fic) - THAT'S RIGHT BITCHES, I WASN'T JOKING! Already got a rough outline made up a couple months ago and I've been brainstorming with the help of a couple other cool friends. Hopefully you'll see this one start before the end of the year.

Other: Been contemplating a NUzi or Huntlow piece for a while now. But I'm trying to be more mindful of my limits. You never know tho!

And that's all the news that is news with me! Hopefully I can set up a schedule of some kind to make these more regular and maybe reveal a bit more about my creative process!

...like when I'll start taking creative writing classes.

I thought I'd post the lyrics to a song I wrote about Toffee ans Eclipsa, for the Svtfoe season 4 rewrite with @dappercritter :

The Moth and the Raven:

Hey about that SVTFOE Rewrite...

I know it's been a fairly long time since I finally threw in the towel on that old thing, but me and @full-moon-phoenix were discussing that whole thing where making Eclipsa and Toffee a thing would have solved a whole lot of problems with the story.

...and that actually gave us enough inspiration to start thinking about trying again with the rewrite.

It has everything.

A chance to give the two most lore important yet underwritten characters in the show an excuse to stay in the foreground that gives them both more to work with!

More opportunities for a stronger conflict that ties together the plot lines about Mewni, the monsters, the queens, and the magic!

Ship drama that actually matters to the narrative!

So just out of curiosity...

Critter Update Time Again

First things first:

My brain is full, I am ready to scream.

The fact that my first and so far favourite social media platform is about to be the next victim of late-stage capitalism and premium subscription bullsh*t. However, I am making some forward progress in life and I have news and thoughts I’d like to share with you all, especially if most of you won’t be here after Post Plus becomes a thing. (If it does.)

I picked a course and a place to take a course on database work. All that’s left now is figuring how and if I can get in by next fall.

I may also be looking at work at an entry-level job into data soon to help buff up my application and make some extra money for myself and the family. (Real exciting stuff, right?)

Sorry if I’ve seemed distant lately. Besides writing and life choices, there’s been a lot of health problems in my immediate family that has been on our minds, as well as having to cope with the wildfire smoke from BC and Saskatchewan. My dad is having the hardest time with it and I’m worried it’s going to be affecting me in the short and long runs too.

On a lighter note, I’ve also been preoccupied with helping my parents with cleaning up around the house. Which is good and fulfilling even! Too bad about all the dust flying is killing my sinuses.

Monstrosities of Magic is slowly progressing. I, @full-moon-phoenix, and our awesome server are coming up with some great new ideas for how to overhaul S4 for the better. Tales from Beast Island has hit and been stuck on a writing block for months now. I’ve had a hard time getting my enthusiasm for SPOP and Entrapdak back since it’s been so long since I was into it, and the discourse surrounding the series as a whole and the characters hasn’t been any help. I know I shouldn’t let it get to me, but what isn’t helping is that I’ve had other projects on my mind, and more IRL commitments coming up. I still really want to make another Entrapdak fic but I’m not sure if I’m up for an entire series fic. (Suggestions are welcome.)

I am SERIOUSLY considering writing fanfiction for The Owl House and even creating an OC for the project! I already have a boatload of ideas and few people who are also interested but I’m not sure if it’s the best thing to be working on right now--especially with so much on my plate with my other projects on hold and my real life getting more complicated.

Finished another outline for Godzilla: The Monster Age. I am both excited and extremely anxious about how this baby is coming along... Starting to wonder if I want to commit to an entire series of it too, but only if somehow I completely run out of time and energy.

I have no idea if or how I’ll still be on tumblr after Post+, where I’ll go, or what I’ll finish up. But I’m hoping to accomplish as much as I can before I leave and to keep in touch with all my wonderful friends should it come to that. If need be I can share my discord link or email if you are a friend and interested.

Once again, that’s all the news that is news. Thought it would be good to get that out of the way before the mass log-off in a couple days.

Guess what game I just played

Yup! Took yet another shot at editing the coronation dresses. But this time for mine and @dappercritter 's Monstrosities of Magic AU!

You know I got to ask about my lizard bois! How are Toffee and Rasticore in your rewrite? Also Lobsterclaws? Thought he died??

Meet the Characters

Part 2 & 3: Toffee and Rasticore

You know Toffee. You know Rasticore. You know they're both rogue Septarian soldiers, one of which goes on to become Mewni's greatest adversary while the other becomes an assassin.

But what you don't know is that these two grew up together. Rasticore is the son of Seth, whose family took Toffee in as a child, so Toffee and Rasticore were practically joined at the hip for ages. They're very on and off both platonically and romantically, but somehow always find their way back to each other sooner or later.

Toffee used to live at the Monster Temple with Eclipsa, Globgor, and their peace advocates, once believing in harmony between Mewmans and Monsters. But he also had sought to flee Mewni's tyranny rather than fight it, going so far as to leave Rasticore and Seth behind. But when the Magic High Commission raided their sanctuary, Toffee was lost in the Nexabyss hiding from them, trapped in a nightmarish magic dimension just underneath the Bureaucracy of Magic for 200 years.

He came across the ancient Nexabyss Library, where the oldest and deepest secrets of magic and the universe were kept safe. The Librarians took him into their safe haven from the magic world, and with nothing else to do until he found his way out, Toffee read. And read. And read. Until one day he found out the darkest secrets of the Butterfly family, namely the child swap.

He came out of the Library a changed man, and a Librarian-in-training at that. He joined back up with Rasticore and the Monster Army and was hellbent on making Queen Comet confess to the crimes of her family. She knew, and she refused. The rest is history. But what of the present? Where is Toffee now, and does he have any reason to fight with Star now that Eclipsa is queen again?

(Also, yeah. Randall Clawford, aka Lobster Claws, is very much alive.)
