“You asshole.”
Juliet Velhankar sat cross legged in her office at Sacred Heart hospital, pencil in her hair, assembly tools and instructions haplessly strewn around her, as if a tornado had recently passed through. She had discarded all the standard furniture that came with the space, opting instead to bring in her own decor. Painters had come in the previous day, replacing the sterile white walls with a dark blue and the harsh lights with lamps that glowed softly. While it wasn’t exactly up to hospital code, no one had stopped her, and she doubted they would, with how the director had practically fawned over the presence of such a distinguished scholar in their midst.
A distinguished scholar who was now swearing at the parts that were supposed to hammered together to form a desk. Because physics knowledge apparently didn’t equate to being handy with actual physical labor.
After a couple more attempts, the desk beginning to take shape but wobbling in a manner that was quite concerning, Juliet gave up, leaving her office to pop her head into the one next to hers.
“Hey, you wouldn’t happen to be handy with a—” her voice trailed off as her mind registered the familiar features, the head of messy curls. And with the recognition, a bitterness that had only grown throughout the years. “Montgomery.”
