Emma from The Promised Neverland is by far the most useful female character in a shounen anime I’ve ever seen and that is SO nice to see but also so disappointing that it’s taken this long.
Now hear me out!
Yes of course women like Mikasa Ackerman, Erza Scarlet, Rukia Kuchiki, and Morigana are all such wonderful and powerful woman. But understand that these women end up on the sidelines most of the time and their potential for development is lackluster at most.
They have their badass moments and then that’s it. They go back to being on the sidelines so the main men take control of the plot (while the girls just scream encouraging words) and it’s just so disappointing to watch.
But not with Emma.
Not only is she the main character but out of the trio in her group she is considered the most useful character to the plot. So many lives wouldn’t have been saved, peace with demons wouldn’t have even been considered, and Norman and Ray wouldn’t have a genuine true purpose to live other than just “surviving”.
Her pacifism and hope for the better is what keeps everyone going. She refuses to take the easy way out and just kill. She takes peace and considers it as just another challenge, while in other anime’s that’d be considered a weakness. Instead, she turns that into one of the biggest strengths in the entire anime and is literally the reason why everyone is still alive.
I’ve never genuinely seen a female in anime take action, make it look badass, and still be taken seriously theoughout the entire plot. She’s powerful, she’s aware of her own qualities in herself and she takes advantage of them. She asses a situation, takes control fast, and puts trust in the people around her to do the same, and it works.
She’s calculating, smart, and allows the enemy to undermine her so she can take advantage of that. She has power, but she’s also believes in peace.
She’s such a good character and so is everyone else. This story has such good writing. It’s so good.
Just... Just watch The Promised Neverland please.
Hello! What kind of humour does the main trio have? In other words, what makes them laugh? (dark humour, dad jokes, tickles, etc). Thank you :)
Alibaba
> His humor basically materializes on dumb, immature jokes, a relict of his earlier days where he was exactly that - immature. Aladdin saying so much as an inappropriate word and he can already hear Alibaba hold back a muffled giggle. If he enjoys the company of who tickles him, he certainly can’t help but laugh about this either and he’s a generally merry person that is influenced by the mood. If the mood is alright, he’ll simply laugh of happiness
Aladdin
> Much like Alibaba, Aladdin can be found laughing and being a ray of sunlight even on darker days. He’s pretty much the reason for many people to gain hope again and feel better after falling into a slump and he loved laughing with those that recover by his side. It makes him most happy to help people and if they require someone to lift their spirits, he’s their man. Then again, he likes stupid jokes and immature innuendos just as much, and someone telling him about something dumb that happened to them that day will certainly bring up another smile too
Morgiana
> Even though she looks tough at all times, she sure has enough reason to smile. Morgiana can’t really bring up the same humor as the other two but she’ll be pleased if they are happy. Actions do more for her than words and she is more likely to laugh while dancing or talking while working, then other times. If it comes to jokes, she does like some food-puns or jokes with words, and even though her face keeps being blank while she mutters another eggcelent joke, you can be sure she’s feeling the fun inside
" For a long time now, I’ve had shackles in my heart…And now those shackles and the ones on my legs are broken…It’s the first time I’ve felt like there’s a reason for me to be alive. I’m thankful…That I met you…And your friend, that little boy." ------- Morgiana to Alibaba. Night 17
