it's been a while since i've posted here. but this is just a general reminder to other ex-mos, and also to current mormons, that you have to put in anti-racist work into your deprogramming and/or ongoing church efforts.

regardless of the intentions of the "original" gospel or the current-day statements on racism (including partnerships with the NAACP on scholarships), the church has a racist legacy and history that they have not apologized for or made restitutions and reparations on (including the early practice of taking slaves as tithes, the forbidding of black men from holding the priesthood, the "lamanite" placement program, and no formal church-level apology and public admonition of individual racist statements and actors within the church). white supremacists feel home and comfortable within the church, and we have to unlearn the things that allow that comfort, and actively fight against it.

My brother “Aaron” is the only one of my five brothers to have left the church after me. There are few things that make me happier than the two of us being able to take shots at mormonism together. 

What followed was a long conversation about the fucking ridiculous shit coming out over MormonLeaks. I hope to get into more of that later...

I told my husband (who never reads news/social media ever) everything there is to know about the Joseph Bishop/Mormonleaks story and he was astounded and appalled. I think we should be seeing more of that kind of reaction.

It's a very significant story, and yet not one of my LDS friends outside of Tumblrstake has posted anything about it on social media, not even to say "we should fix this." Maybe people are afraid to bring up that conversation for fear of sounding like a bitter ex-mo. I'm no exception to that. But in general, no one seems to want to acknowledge that this problem exists and no one wants to listen to or believe women. The silence is deafening
