Expanding on this post because I literally cannot stop thinking about moshenshang, it's actually insane.
Demon Shen Yuan is engaged to Mobei-Jun for political reasons. Shen Yuan is from a kingdom that’s located in a notoriously dangerous mountain range and merchants are consistently dying while passing through. So, in order to solve this issue, Mobei-Jun goes to talk to the kingdom in order to solve the issue and perhaps come to an agreement.
The king ends up telling him that if he wants his merchants to be protected then Mobei-Jun has to marry his son, Shen Yuan. And sure, as powerful as he is, Mobei could just forcibly absorb the kingdom and force them to do what he wants but honestly? It really isn’t worth the effort and Shen Yuan is very pretty and he’s competent and very capable, so it really isn’t much of an issue for Mobei-Jun. So, without any delays, the two of them are married.
Shen Yuan is the perfect image of cold composure, after all, he was born into this role and he’s had plenty of time to adjust. Except this was never in PIDW? Mobei-Jun never had a spouse so Shen Yun is absolutely baffled. Especially when Mobei-Jun starts courting him, even though they’re married. We’ve got: bringing him different types of creature parts, even whole creatures (usually dead) when Shen Yuan shows that he’s interested in studying the fauna of the world (not that he says it), books on plants and beasts from different regions, sparring with him, and eventually biting him in very visible places because sure, everyone already knows Shen Yuan is Mobei’s spouse but now they know he’s his mate.
Then comes Shang Qinghua. Things progress as they did in SVSSS but when Qinghua is brought to the northern desert for the first time, he meets Yuan and he’s truly just so confused because so far, the plot has been normal and then all of a sudden, Mobei has a husband??? That was not in the novel, not even in the drafts. So they both find out they’re transmigrators pretty early on and start planning together, not just how to make sure Qinghua stays alive but also to actually fix PIDW and make it more closely resemble the world Qinghua had planned in the original drafts.
Mebei is very observant of the fact that his husband is very fond of this human. And while he’s possessive as all hell, if Shen Yuan wants to keep the human then so be it, Mobei thinks he’s cute enough, in a pathetic way. And he’s certainly not a threat to his marriage. Eventually, Mobei sees that Yuan is courting Qinghua, not that Yuan seems to realize what he’s doing. Mobei has come to learn that Yuan is a very competent man but when it comes to his personal feelings and how he thinks others think of him, he’s very oblivious. Mobei thinks it’s cute. So he helps out in the courting, making it more obvious to Qinghua and courting him himself. Qinghua realizes what’s happening before Yuan does.
Qinghua at first, thinks Yuan is aware of what he’s doing and is blown away by how oblivious someone could be. It takes Qinghua grabbing Yuan by the face and kissing him sloppy style for Yuan to catch on and then realize that not only has he been accidentally courting Qinghua this whole time, so has Mobei. And now, Yuan really can’t let Qinghua die.
