I've crafted another scenario for why doesn't Shen Jiu beat the shit out of Disciple Shen Yuan
But it's fucked up
He sees Shen Yuan, newly transmigrated street kid, rush out to protect and then comfort another much younger street kid and gets a visceral reminder of Qi-ge before
This kid reminds him viscerally of Qi-ge but if he was this kids Shizun then this one couldn't leave him
He can also make him better
Make him care about the correct things
Shen Yuan agrees to come with him (System orders) but tells the other street child that they will see each other again someday, he's sure
But he doesn't promise and that makes Shen Jiu even more sure he has made the right choice
Shen Jiu moves this kid into his house and works on molding him into what he thinks Qi-ge should have been
He's obsessed and all his focus is on Shen Yuan and his training. He doesn't abuse his other students but he doesn't pay attention to what they are doing either
He's harsh and his words hurt but he can't bring himself to touch this kid much less hit him.
And when he does think about touching it's not out of anger and that's worse
But he doesn't lay a hand on Shen Yuan
Not yet
And then Luo Binghe shows up
And Shen Yuan who has been so good. So obedient is now arguing back
Because that little useless street kid Shen Yuan was protecting? That was Luo Binghe who is ecstatic to find his saviour in his new home
And Shen Yuan is caught in two people's obsessions that he can't escape even as they rip him apart
Shen Da-ge holds Shen Yuan, just like he'd always done whenever he'd be home early enough to join his siblings at dinner.
The way Shen Yuan would arrive home from high school in the evening, and his tired eyes would immediately light up once he spotted his eldest brother, ready to greet him.
It wasn't that long ago, really.
Shen Yuan graduated and moved out just over two years ago.
"I'm an adult now. I have to do something more."
Oh, A-Yuan.
He always told Shen Yuan "You're never too old to hug your gege, A-Yuan!"
Shen Da-ge cradles the back of his youngest brother's neck, gently brings an arm up to support his back, and pulls him into an embrace that'll never be returned again.
I got an AU idea where somehow Liu Qingge finds out that Shen Yuan has transmigrated (Shen Yuan doesnât know) and decided not to really say anything because clearly heâs friendly and not some hostile demon. Anyway this AU was built around one specific scene in my head. Liu Mingyan and Liu Qingge are seen by Shen Yuan Being Siblings and it reminds Shen Yuan off his sister. Liu Qingge notices that Shen Yuan is upset and asks about it he offhandedly mentions missing his own little sister. He catches himself and runs off, but this sparks a whole monologue in Liu Qinggeâs head about how he hadnât even considered that Shen Yuan had a life before coming here.
Snip.
He had a family. Despite how often his image haunts Liu Qinggeâs mind, he somehow hadnât ever even considered what Shen Qingqiuâs life was like before he came here. He supposes now that Shen Qingqiu isnât the right name to use, though he has no other one to call him. He had a younger sister. He mustâve had a name and parents. Does he miss them? What did he look like? What does he think when he looks in a mirror? How odd must it be for him to wake up in a strangers body and to live their life as if it was your own.
the bachelorette but starring shen yuan (aka the shizlorette)
shen yuan is an infamous member of bachelor nation, the most well known hater of the show. he becomes the bachelorette because his social media criticisms of the show's concept and casts catch the producer's attention, and they want to do a season themed around "proving" the show works by making its biggest critic fall in love
the host (and lead producer) is shang qinghua, who originated the entire idea and has gone viral for his responses to shen yuan multiple times
contestants include:
luo binghe (mei): famous chef with a tragic backstory about being abandoned then orphaned then sent to something traumatizing like a wilderness therapy camp. in his free time he runs a nonprofit to support "troubled" children. in a surprise reveal we learn he came on the show because shen yuan helped take down the horrible camp by posting an expose about the industry, and then happened to be one of the first critics to write a good review of his restaurant, leading to his extraordinary success in the industry. gets the winner edit
luo bingge: lowkey evil twin to luo binghe despite no actual relation. former bachelor lead who's season was canceled midway through because he tried to propose to all the contestants and he was getting canceled online for misogyny or something. says he's back as a contestant because he wants to prove he's changed for the better. gets the early-season villain edit and goes home relatively quickly because he barges in on a one-on-one date as if he deserves the time and it pisses shen yuan off
liu qingge: on the show because a friend (*cough* liu mingyan *cough*) applied for him and the producers wanted him for eye candy. somehow becomes the fan favorite, but is always losing out to luo binghe just slightly (comes second in physical challenges, is unable to interrupt luo binghe and shen yuan's chats during cocktail parties bc he's embarrassed, "isn't open enough about his feelings" while luo binghe cries at any slight frown from shen yuan, etc etc). gets the "should have won" edit. most viral moment is a big blowout fight with shen qingqiu at the tell all when images leak of shen qingqiu at a strip club or something right before the show started filming. says in interviews that he just wants shen yuan to be happy (but says so with gritted teeth while glaring at luo binghe)
shen qingqiu/jiu: renowned musician who says he wanted to come on the show because he thinks shen yuan's prose (his hate rants) are beautifully done and he wants to get to know him better. does not befriend ANY of the other contestants. shen yuan keeps him around because he enjoys their chats where they just hate on and gossip about people. gets the late season villain edit when it's revealed he played a role in luo binghe's tragic backstory on a two-on-one date (the other contestant being luo binghe of course). shen yuan finds out and dramatically sends him home with a speech that contains more censorship beeps than words
yue qingyuan: probably the president of a university of something. claims he applied to be on the show because he just thought shen yuan was beautiful and wanted to get to know him better. it's revealed that he had a previous situationship with shen qingqiu (a music professor at his university) that ended poorly, and fans speculate he only went on the show to reconcile. reactions are split between those who think it's sweet, those who think it's creepy, and those who are just mad the whole drama was a distraction from shen yuan's experience (shen yuan did not care) (matter of fact, shen qingqiu didn't care either and ignored yue qingyuan the entire season). fan sleuths eventually reveal the whole sordid tale and learn that the situationship ended because of a miscommunication (qijiu then show up to the tell all engaged with matching rings and shen qingqiu is practically sitting on yue qingyuan's lap the whole time)
gongyi xiao: has a generic office job that he hates. becomes an early frontrunner among fans when the cast photos are first revealed. says he applied for the show because he appreciated shen yuan's kindness (everyone else is confused by this statement bc shen yuan is an infamous hater). him and luo binghe have a mini rivalry over being the only contestants younger than shen yuan, but luo binghe severely outfreaks gongyi xiao so gongyi xiao sort of gives up, and he eventually leaves during a teary-eyed rose ceremony pre-hometowns, but it seems clear that both him and shen yuan knew they weren't a match. fans rally for him to be the next bachelor
zhuzhi-lang: executive assistant for CEO of (insert generic company that is a rival to the one gongyi xiao works at) tianlang-jun. tianlang-jun pulled some strings to get his nephew on the show. is quiet and shy throughout the season, which becomes his downfall as shen yuan sort of forgets about him. somehow he makes it to hometowns, and his visit is made really weird because his uncle asks questions that are WAY too invasive and embarrasses him in front of shen yuan. shen yuan basically friend-zones him and viewers do a frame-by-frame analysis that shows zhuzhi-lang's heart breaking and confidence collapsing in real time as he gets sent home, which shocks everyone because he never seemed that into shen yuan outwardly
other miscellaneous cast members that go home somewhat early:
ming fan: sent home night one (shen yuan lowkey calls him ugly in a confessional)
mobei-jun: thought shang qinghua was the season lead. was very disappointed that this was not the case. runs off with shang qinghua halfway through the season
mu qingfang: did a cute heart rate monitoring doctor bit when he arrived at the house. gets a few dates but he and shen yuan agree they work better as friends (mu qingfang is internally devastated about this)
wei qingwei: sent home because he seems more interested in playing in the pool than talking to shen yuan during a group date
results: luo binghe wins obviously. he backstabs and gossips and cries and manipulates his way right into shen yuan's heart. fans and the other contestants are SO confused about how shen yuan just completely doesn't notice the red flags (he does notice, he just dgaf). goes down as one of the most insane seasons in bachelor/bachelorette history, and sparks a shit ton of controversy before, during, and after the show. shen yuan continues hating on the show afterwards, but it doesn't work as well when every other post is him and his husband (they got married approximately two days after filming ended) being lovey dovey on the tl
So been having more thoughts about Wife SY (Links here, here and here) only instead of Bingge groveling what if? Bingmei?
SY transmigrates into wife when either a baby or very young and solves entire life and causes plot deviations from get go, since wife didn't actually have a plot and was a throw away line.
SY wins over LGJ and MBJ. These 2 have had SY from a day and will destroy everyone in this room if they are hurt in anyway. They adore SY. Both are super overprotective as SY is sickly. As half human while young the ice powers cause them to very very ill (it gets better as SY gets stronger but initially is very vulnerable)
While SY is still young some Mobei siblings think SY is getting to much favor and plan to get rid of loose end. SQH hears this and tells MBJ and SY is sent away somewhere safe while LGJ and MBJ 'clean house'. (Plus they know SY likes SQH they'll follow him around and rant at him over some books the two have read)
Safe being with SQH (As MBJ future husband, not that SQH realizes this) so SY is now on cang qiong.
SQH is freaking out like 'cucumber bro please just stay in house and lay low please!'
SY does not lay low, SY has been stuck in Northern palace all his/her life, they've read the entire libraries twice over. They are on cang qiong which means all the peaks different libraries, cultivator texts new books!
They'll law low and pretend to be a disciple no one will notice.
Everyone notices.
SY does not have protagonist halo protecting them and is clocked almost instantly as a half demon.... but peak lords aren't sure what to do with this very clearly sick very obviously half demon who is just reading.
LQG doesn't even try and fight he feels awkward like kicking a tiny sick puppy he can't do it. This doesn't feel fair at all, also the little demon sees him and smiles and compliments him and 'MU-SHIDI SOMETHINGS WRONG ME'
The peak lords are all confused and then realize little demon is coming from An Ding and collectively turn to SQH who is cursing out cucumber bro but bullshits that 'Oh that's just a friends cousin I said i'd look after them'. All the peak lords assume it's on the human side of SY lineage, SQH does not correct them.
SY of course spends a lot of time on Qing Jing peak(SJ got so many rare books from YQY) and of course sees protagonist and 'oh poor little sheep I can't go help him' and besides SY is disguised and wife is so forgotten it shouldn't cause any plot problems right???
Of course SY is instantly doting on Binghe helping him cultivate and learn art and music (of course they were taught it) and teaching all about beasts (a lot he will face in abyss). Binghe is beyond smitten and also so protective over SY, insisting on cooking for and helping them around because it's clear they aren't well, and also because SY praises their cooking so much and pats his head.
Things carry on until invasion, which SY is hiding in back for until Binghe nearly gets hurt and SY can't help it they jump in the way. Only for SHL to recognizes SY and freak the fuck out kicking elder skyhammer off the mountain herself. 'OH GOD YOU NEARLY KILLED THE PRINCESS OF THE NORTH ARE YOU MAD!'
Everyone bluescreening as SHL scoops up SY and nopes out calling SY PRINCESS???
This leads to SQH fleeing to North also where him and SY are just like '....so plot may be a bit messed up' cause SQH can't do invasion now... they're not sure whats happening.
Binghe is getting visit from Meng Mo and interrupts his speech
LBH: So would being demon emperor mean I could marry princess of the North?
MM: Yes
LBH: I have no more questions teach me everything
Years later when alliance marriage happens SY is confused 'he should have married the major wives first?...why are people calling me empress? what is going on?'
Having more thoughts about SY recreating Qing Jing peak in PIDW (Link) and what if number of kids adopted disciples are the peak lords reborn.
Feral little SJ who SY recused and is now super protective him, following him around like a duckling because 'Shizun has no self preservation instincts and is to nice'. A mini LQG who wants to fight and also mus protect SY, and then YQY who just wants to keep SJ safe.
All of them adore SY and when Bingge shows up all of them seeing how Bingge looks at SY and NOPE not their Shizun! We know how big your harem is like hell we're letting you take our Shizun and make him one of your hundred wives FUCK OFF.
Bingge is being cock blocked by horde of overprotective ducklings... who all look uncannily familiar.
All of whom know how to utilize puppy dog eyes and can distract SY from his wooing.
Bonus: MQF survived finds his way back wanders into Qing Jing peak that is not in ruins??? sees SY and reborn sect siblings and just like ... you know what life is weird enough this may as way happen and moves in as medic.
Moshang Bonus: SQH who was reborn as SQH is reborn and SY finds him SQH is not happy 'Goddamn you shitty system you got me killed and now I have to live again as an NPC! where is my refund I do not want to go through puberty a THIRD TIME'
Then meets cucumber bro while older and see's Qing Jing peak and just internally screaming
SQH 'BRO DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'VE DONE???'
SY 'Yes i've made a safe home for all these children who faced the consequences of YOUR HACK WRITING!'
SQH is the oldest there after SY so he's put in charge of the little 'monsters' whenever SY leaves... he hates it tyhey always try to run and follow SY, they've imprinted on him and he cannot keep them away from him. Also crying toddlers and kids whenever SY isn't there which airplane can't stop!
Not to mention every time his bro leaves he comes back with more kids! Bro you're worse than batman please stop!
Then one time MBJ comes along with Bingge on wooing mission (MBJ is meant to distract the children so that Bingge can talk to SY) only MBJ is moping because SQH accidentally died (SQH thinks MBJ killed him but it was an accident and MBJ has been in mourning for years)
MBJ sees SQH out of corner of eye and is gone he is there jsut staring at what he knows is his Qinghua! While SQH is screaming 'JHE'S GOING TO KILL ME AGAIN! oh no my king whose been taking care of you? Is he ok-forget that i'm going to dieeee AGAIN!!'
Whereas on other side of peak Bingge is frantically looking around at where his cockblocker blocker has gone to.
Since Ghost Yuan doesn't really have a described design, I wanted to make one myself ^-^ (based on @particle90272's svsss x tgcf fic That Tine I Transmigrated As A God).
I added a satchel because of how we was a plant need and collected things, made his robes more earth-toned so he could blend in better, + a dagger in case he can't use his magic bow. #BIGHATSUPREMACY I don't think NEARLY enough fics give Shen Yuan a giant mysterious hat sighhh
OHHHH MY GOD IM ASCENDING THIS IS CANON THIS IS CANON NOW HE LOOKS LIKE THIS OHHHH MY GODDDD I LOVE THIS DESIGN SO MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEA
Can I like. Add your art into the fic? Because oh my GOD all of your art is so fire and plus you were the first person to make fanart so like you get special treatment đ«¶đ WITH CREDIT OFC BTW IT WOULD BE A LINK IN THE CHAPTER NOTES I FEEL THE NEED TO CLARIFY
Something that I think is key to Shen Yuan is that he is actually very good at picking out inconsistencies: he's a professional hater, after all, and notices immediately when somebody is acting in a way that contradicts what he's come to expect from them.
The problem is that, due also to being a professional hater, whenever he encounters something he doesn't understand, he has a tendency to simply immediately denounce it as 'absurd' or 'stupid', or simply 'incomprehensible', without updating his mental model or trying to figure out if there's something he's missing.
He's the guy who thinks he already knows better than anyone else - the one who doesn't hesitate for a second to call a character's actions 'OOC' even when the author himself says otherwise. Who doesn't hesitate to declare that he understands a character better than even the author does. And he's not entirely wrong (at least, when it comes to Luo Binghe and PIDW as a whole), but he's also unbelievably stubborn and has shut off his brain to any possibility of new development. He's also the guy who says that a character is acting 'OOC' after an extended period of thematic improvement and growth, because he doesn't like the fact that the story has gone in this direction but only knows how to express his opinions as objective fact.
He's intelligent, and loves to learn when it comes to certain subjects of interest (mainly monsters), but when it comes to other people, he's destructively incurious. If someone acts in a way he didn't expect from them - such as Luo Binghe openly flirting with him, or Liu Qingge acting protective, or either expressing anger when he gets too close to the other - he picks up on it immediately, and remarks on in inwardly, and then... immediately dismisses it. It's just 'strange behaviour', that's all. People behaving 'against their interests'. It's all just part of this ridiculous world Shen Yuan has been unceremoniously shoved into, and he can't possibly be expected to understand it all, right? It was all merely badly-written lowest-common-denominator porn, anyway. It is simply Not That Deep.
(And well: obviously this is all also a very good way to avoid confronting anything he might ever not wish to acknowledge. In the broad sense, that thing is 'I might sometimes be wrong about PIDW'. But more specifically... it is much easier simply to complain that Luo Binghe is messing things up for no reason than to acknowledge that he might be a little less straight than Shen Yuan believes him to be, or that Shen Yuan might not entirely mind when he makes these 'mistakes'.)
This is all why he works so well as an unreliable narrator: the clues to what's going on are all right there in front of him. You simply need to give these 'out of character' actions even five seconds' longer of thought than Shen Yuan himself did.
Terms You Might Want To Know For Your Wuxia/Xianxia Fic
MXTX's danmei are getting increasingly popular, and the fandoms are getting more fic-happy. I've noticed that some writers seem interested in writing their own fics but are concerned of making mistakes with niche honorifics and titles. I've noticed some that have jumped right in, but have made innocent errors that I'd like to correct but fear coming off as rude or presumptuous. And so I've made this list of terms that covers the basics and also some that are a little more niche since they're usually directly translated in cnovels.
DISCLAIMER: This is by no means a comprehensive list of everything one needs to know or would want to know concerning ancient Chinese honorifics and titles, merely what I myself consider useful to keep in mind.

(WARNING - It's an archaic term that should really only be used in an archaic setting if being used as a title instead of a suffix, because the modern vernacular has it as a term for a prostitute in mainland China. [Surname]-xiaojie is fine; Xiaojie by itself should be avoided.)
Gongzi: âYoung Master/Lord/Sir'; âChildeâ; young man from a household of the noble or gentry class
Guniang: 'Young Master/Lady/Miss'; âMaidenâ; an unmarried woman or young girl from a household of the noble or gentry class

Please note that all of these listed above can be used as stand-alone titles or as suffixed honorifics.
TGCF x SVSSS AU where Shen Yuan transmigrates and ascends as the god of music or just becomes a musical cultivator or something and now whenever he speaks the system makes him sing out sentences instead of just letting him talk like a normal personâ
Shen Yuan is so embarrassed and humiliated by this whole ordeal that most of the time he just doesnât talk like, he doesnât want to publicly humiliate himself by randomly starting to sing because the System took his ability away to speak like a normal human being, so now everyone just misunderstands that heâs mute but could still play instruments(which he can btw) and that since Shen Yuan had such heavenly musical talent with different instruments he ascended as the god of music or whateverâ
Like, Shen Yuan is like constantly living in a musical while everyone around him is made to watch it live
I just thought that it would be absolutely hilarious if Shen Yuanâs singing was set on more modern melody and lyrics instead of the traditional sense of Chinese music thatâs more likely to be used in an Ancient China/Xianxia setting, with Shen Yuan being a transmigrator and all?
So now, whenever Shen Yuan opens his mouth to âtalkâ the other characters are made to listen to Shen Yuan singing to these weird, unfamiliar tunes that they have never heard before in their lives which cause a lot of confusion and more misunderstandingsâ
Shen Yuan is either oblivious to this fact or is very well aware of all of it and panicking so hard he nearly has a heart attack⊠almost every time it happens⊠almost⊠and we all know that the System isnât going to help in anyway because the System likes to make Shen Yuan suffer :) (And me too)
Or likeâ he could be like a Chinese opera singer too? Instead? Yeah, idk either đ
