Make It Right Dragon Theory
So if you’ve seen the 3 different Make It Right ft. Lauv remixes lately, you know it has caused much confusion among our fandom. A lot of people have said the amount of remixes for “Make It Right” is ridiculous and some people mocked the remix album covers, wondering how long and how many remixes it will take until the boy wearing the cape finally defeats the dragon.
And that’s what we’re going to be talking about today: The Dragon and it’s meaning.
The Make It Right ft. Lauv remix came out a month ago, and from the moment it came out I have been wondering and trying so hard to figure out what in the world the dragon is supposed to symbolize or mean. In the Make It Right ft. Lauv Remix MV, we see a boy (which is supposed to represent BTS, a sword (which is supposed to represent a microphone/BTS’ music) and a girl who also turns into a cape (which is supposed to represent ARMY). Basically, the girl turns into a cape for the boy to wear, and the boy, along with his sword, eventually finds the courage to face the big fearsome dragon and finally defeat it.
Overall, it’s a cute MV. The storyline may be a bit cheesy, but overall, very cute and wholesome. But we know Make It Right is a part of MOTS: Persona album, and MOTS: Persona is heavily related to Carl Jung and the Jungian Archetypes. And so, today, oddly enough while I was trying to write my theory on the 7 Archetypes of BTS’ Consciousness, I came across this research PDF on the 12 main character Archetypes, and I immediately spotted something:
This website, on their PDF, listed the different qualities and parts of each character archetype. And if you look closely enough, in the 3rd column, it says “Dragon/Problem”.
Dragon? Problem??
So.... the Dragon actually symbolizes the problems BTS has to face.
And this totally makes sense, because, in Fake Love Teaser 1, each member traded their fears for a positive attitude, aka the Magic Shop Psychodramatic Therapy.
And then there’s “Surplus Reality”: the enactment of senses that represent hopes, fears, and unfinished psychological business that may be experienced as being almost more “real” than the events of everyday life.
Essentially, Surplus Reality is another term for dreams.
So dreams such as BS&T, Spring Day, Not Today, etc., can all be explained as a part of Jin’s surplus reality (since now we know Jin is the only real character throughout the whole storyline and different MVs portrays his different perspectives regarding his life, his thoughts, and the events happening around him in his life).
And so I believe, that Make It Right, is supposed to be Jin’s way of telling himself that even though everything may not be/seem ok right now, it eventually will be. He knows he’s the only one who can save himself, and so he keeps telling himself he can and will “make it right”. And to make it right, Jin must overcome the mental obstacles he’s constantly struggling with that’s preventing him from truly loving himself.
And so symbolically, he must collect the courage to slay the fearsome dragon.
Ok but if Yoongi’s lyrics don’t speak to you about how he/them are truly feeling then idk what to tell you
MAMA 2019 Performance BTS Theory Thread
The Performance was separated into 3 parts:
I. Future Meets Past: Calling
II. Past Meets Present: World
III. Future Meets Past: Eternal Journey
First of all, let's talk about the snake in Future Meets Past: N.O. and We are bulletproof. Snake symbolizes rebirth and transformation.
Carl Jung once said a human is born 3 times:
- 1st time = actual physical birth
- 2nd time = with the development of the ego
- 3rd time = leads up to the birth of the spiritual consciousness (AKA YOUR SOUL)
Now, N.O., We are Bulletproof pt. 2, and Dionysus are parallel to one another. We are Bulletproof and N.O. are the shadow of Dionysus, and Dionysus is the Ego of We are Bulletproof and N.O. We are Bulletproof talks about BTS' ambition to make it big (big cars and big rings).
N.O. talks about the boys being suppressed by society, while Dionysus is the boys' Ego, showing their power, stature, and their dominance.
And in MMA performances, we've seen plenty of evidence why the next comeback could be both ego and shadow. And this makes sense, because ego and shadow are conflicting opposite to each other, but shadow cannot exist without ego. Shadow is cast by the ego.
(The shadow figures are an integration of both SHADOW & EGO, since these Shadows glitch and also portray the boys’ past and the shadows are also the boys’ ego projections)
Now, back to the second birth that Carl Jung mentioned:
"The second occurs with the development of the ego."
With the symbolism of the snake during the performance, and how the snake symbolizes rebirth and transformation, it's clear how rebirth and ego/shadow connects together.
Now, let's talk about past meets present: Mikrokosmos and Boy with Luv.
Both of these performances included very colorful backgrounds... but both of these backgrounds seem.... psychedelic to me.
And what do I mean by that?
Well, in BTS’ MMA performance, I noticed that there were the words “LVOE” written on the walls:
Odd how it isn’t written as “LOVE”, but “LVOE”....
Not sure if this is a hint, but there is a band from France called LVOE:
If you take a look at their website, underneath their logo it states 3 words: Popinde, Psychedelia, Electronica.
Popinde means pop & electronica means electronic, so basically the style of their music.
But what really caught my attention is psychedelia.
"Psychedelia - music, culture, or art based on the experiences produced by psychedelic drugs."
Psychedelia seems to involve a lot of colorful colors, specifically rainbow or holographic-like colors, which reminds me of "Peace and Love" era in the 70s, psychedelia seemed to be a very popular trend:
And those were the same patterns we saw during BTS' Mikrokosmos and Boy With Luv performances today:
Also, note how the Mikrokosmos performance looked very similar to DNA MV:
Anyways, then... what caught my attention was also this:
"Dreams are our realities from now on".
Now obviously, they could be referring to how their dreams from the past are now a reality.
But it's important to note that dreams also reflect your reality.
Carl Jung once said:
"For all ego-consciousness is isolated; because it separates and discriminates, it knows only particulars, and it sees only those that can be related to the ego. Its essence is a limitation, even though it reaches to the farthest nebulae among the stars. All consciousness separates; but in dreams, we put on the likeness of that more universal, truer, more eternal man dwelling in the darkness of primordial night. There he is still the whole, and the whole is in him, indistinguishable from nature and bare of all ego-hood. it is from these all-uniting depths that the dream arises, be it never so childish, grotesque, and immoral."
We tend to embrace our Ego complex more since we like our ego better than our shadow, and our Ego is who we identify with and as. But in dreams, dreams are more honest and real. Dreams don't discriminate between ego or shadow.
So just another aspect of how the next comeback might be ego and shadow.
Now here's where we get to the interesting part...
Future Meets: Eternal Journey (Dionysus)
In the final vcr, we see a LOT of symbolism correlating to WINGS and BS&T.
Here are some examples:
The eyeglass Hobi and Jin was holding in BS&T:
Polaroids???
You CANNOT have missed this:
The first thing that came up when I saw Hobi holding a picture frame is BS&T and Dionysus:
Reminds me of WINGS short film LIE when Jimin was sitting in front of those robot hands and there was a black camera filming him:
The hourglass and the hourglass that was seen in Namjoon's VCR from SPEAK YOURSELF final concert:
Exact Connection to Young Forever:
Here's the interesting part:
The VCRs from MMA refers to HYYH
But the VCRs from MAMA are referring mostly to WINGS
This parallel with shadow and ego, how shadow and ego contradict each other and how BTS is now using HYYH and WINGS to contradict our thinking about the next comeback.
Is it going to be Shadow or Ego?
HYYH or WINGS?
We don't know for sure, because the future is unknown.
This may very well be BTS way of telling us you don't have to figure everything out now.
All we need to know is that more will be revealed with the next comeback.
