The way you framed images of the #GrandassaModels into the now iconic #blackisbeautifulposter visually communicated "these full lips, #naturalhairstyles, and brown skin are beautiful, just like you." To preserve the history and heritage of your message, we resound "#lovetheskinyourein" and celebrate #chocolateskin and #9ether. Thank you for your contributions to #BlackCulture. We know it wasn't easy to #celebrateblackness in the 60s, let alone within the world of arts and culture. We know we wouldn't exist if you and your beautiful brothers and sisters didn't place an emphasis on African beauty and culture. Thank you for always telling me to keep two pens and few index cards on hand. I appreciate the moments when you provided me with a dictionary and thesaurus to keep on hand, yet I'm most grateful for the moments that you told me: "#keepapenandpaperonyournightstand." Before smartphone technology, it was you that taught me how to pronounce words properly. Since you've transitioned #fromeldertoancestor, I've developed the tendency to smile when I think back to you giving me my first job and me telling you how I would use the money that you gave to me to ensure the women in the family would grow up knowing how it feels #tobelovedproperly. For as "#theworthofaman is to be measured by the value in which he places upon family," not a day goes by that I don't quote you.
