October 8, 2025 - Red-backed Mousebird (Colius castanotus) These mousebirds are found in and around forests, savannas, and scrubland, often near rivers, in western Angola and possibly far western Democratic Republic of the Congo. They feed on fruits, including cultivated pawpaws, bananas, mangoes, and figs, as well as flowers, leaves, and sometimes termites. Their nests are large bowls lined with finer materials built in trees. females lay between one and four eggs which both parents incubate.
