Hiii Sydney do you have any silent film recs?
of course i do! here’s the 15 silents that made my personal canon 200 films of all time list: the kiss, something good — negro kiss, a trip to the moon, falling leaves, shoes, within our gates, safety last, sherlock jr., the big parade, flesh and the devil, 7th heaven, sunrise: a song of two humans, the passion of joan of arc, show people, and a woman of affairs. consider this a jumping off point.
but if you’ve seen some of the greatest hits, here are some a little more obscure and crazy: a sticky woman (but anything by alice guy blaché), léontine’s battery (or any film with léontine but that’s my favorite), any film starring mabel normand (take your pick!), scandal (any lois weber), les vampires, humoresque, souls for sale, the signal tower (i love this one in particular), body and soul (ditto), beverly of graustark, mantrap, padlocked (PLEASE watch padlocked - if you need help finding it, dm me), bardeleys the magnificent, metropolis, the show, the patsy, the docks of new york, steamboat bill jr.
if you watch any of these come back and let me know how you liked them! i also make an effort to watch silent films throughout the year so if you want to follow me on letterboxd (see my bio) you can find much more there as well.
i will accept other recommendations in the comments here but, like, be chill about it plz
