This took...forever to finish out. And it’s already long enough, I’m not gonna do full on analysis here ^^;;; But I will put down the characters with their Daemon names!
Mob’s daemon, Yuhinagiku (Yuhi for short) settles as a tanuki either at the end of the Mogami arc or the end of the series as a whole. Mob tends to be quiet, easy-going and emotionally guarded (to keep his powers in check), while Yuhi is his more emotional, caring and dedicated side.
Ritsu’s soul, Sahimawari (Sahi), settles as a Siberian Mountain cat sometime after his rescue from claw, when his relationship with Mob heals and he learns so much more about himself in the process. Ritsu tends to be more quiet and driven, while Sahi shows his more expressive, caring, and somewhat dramatic side.
Reigen has a Common Raven soul named Suligwenyth (Gwen). Their relationship seems a little strained at the beginning of the series, but as he becomes more truthful, both with who he is and with others, their bond grows much stronger. Also having a raven as a daemon hanging around Spirits and Such adds so much to the atmosphere, yes? Reigen kinda represents his whole showman persona, being charismatic, opportunistic, and a little manipulative and prone to bluffing. Gwen represents his more caring, innovative and introspective side. There’s alot of snarky banter between the two :)
Teru and Etialya like to put on quite the show together. Before meeting Mob she took very fearsome forms (alligators, larger birds of prey, badgers, wolves, etc.) to continuously establish themselves as the strongest of all. Until they fought Mob. They worked harder to really find themselves after that, Eti taking smaller more humble forms...I think it’s around the world domination arc, where he’s charged with leading and protecting all those espers that Teru settles more as a wild boar. She’s not humble. They’re PROUD of who they are! And they will do all they can to help those important to them...sometimes to the point they don’t know when to stop. Teru is more sympathetic, optimistic, and a little cautious, while Etialya is more assertive, competitive, and adventurous.
Shou and Loinnirá are very close. He settled more quickly than most kids...having a power hungry (sort of abusive) father causes one to grow up fast. With how driven and energetic he is, Nira took many smaller forms to keep up with her other half, ranging from otters (yes I originally typed him as an otter but THEN), squirrels, dragonflies, etc. One day, around when Shou set his goal to take down his father to save the world, Nira settled as an Italian Honey Bee. He worries about how fragile she is, but she doesn’t let that slow her down in any way. Shou is the more openly engaging, active, and goal driven half, while Loinnirá displays his more calculating, judgmental, dutiful side. She’s found tucked in the folds of his jackets more often than not, but he does sometimes keep her in a protective case on a necklace or a case strapped to his belt. She also loves to nestle in bigger daemons’ fur and feathers, especially Kosa and Sahi.
Serizawa has a Burmese Mountain Dog soul named Fuukosame. In his days hiding and restraining his power under the umbrella, Kosa would curl up as small as possible to be as unintimidating as she could. People scare them so much, and they lean on each other quite a bit. After the world domination incident, though, and setting his umbrella aside, it takes Kosa awhile to stop slouching when she walks, unconsciously still trying to appear smaller than she is. After awhile of working for Reigen at Spirits and Such, they’re more confident in themselves and those around them, and Kosa can run and play freely. They still remain very jumpy individuals. Serizawa is more cautiously trusting, sensitive, and willing to try new things in the right conditions, while Fuukosame is very much his paranoid, protective, anxious side. Those who manage to gain their trust, however, earn their loyalty for life.

Sorry anon, I meant to draw up something digital, but my tablet is being a dummy...this is a comic I drew up awhile ago, it’s got a post Mogami hug in it, because...how could Mob NOT have nightmares after that?? Goodness...the cat and tanuki are from my MP100 daemon AU; it’s a shock to Ritsu a part of Mob’s soul is scared of him suddenly, but uh. Trauma. Yeah. It works out. Sorry this is confusing X’’’’D
A ton of Mob doodles from my mission...drawing these characters is very calming! Various AU’s and plain canon are involved...ageswap, wing aus, some teories on MP100 endings and some aftermath ideas...the quick small doodle with Mob with long hair leaning on Reigen is from the “A Breach of Trust” AU by @phantomrose96 ...it’s been awhile on hiatus, I dont know what’s going on there currently but...babies....the one with Mob with elf ears is Fae Mob from my friend’s Rumpelstiltsmob au so lots of that...there’s a random Voltron/MP100 doodle in there too, if you wanna check out my tiny AU for that here...more to come. Some assorted MP100 Daemon AU drawings as well...I hope to make aesthetics for that one too, sometime. Sorry these are super random, but as I’m working on the hug requests, I’ll put these out too. Yaaaaay Ritsu’s done! More detailed analysis under the cut!
Ritsu’s daemon is a sociable enough breed of domestic cat, which still tends to lean toward introversion. Siberian Mountain cats find comfort in mates, and have sometimes been found in monogamous relationships, but overall can do just fine without. These cats do make brilliantly responsible parents, and unlike most other cat breeds, female Siberians are willing to work together with their mate to raise their kittens. Even so, Siberians prefer to do their hunting alone. When it comes to a domestic household setting, Siberian cats love all members of their adopted family, but they tend to bond closest to one family member in particular. They seem to be strongly in tune with their chosen owner’s mood, and know when to either offer cuddles and a listening ear, or to not intrude at all. These cats have sometimes been called “watch-cats”, as they vigilantly guard their territory and become suspicious of any stranger who enters the house. They have a strong sense of territory and home, and become very stressed to the point of destructive behavior if their environment changes too much. Siberians are also extremely intelligent and powerfully built hunters. Their three layers of water-proof fur help them endure the harshest of low temperatures and snow, making for a very hardy, powerful breed of cat. However, a Siberian is still a domestic cat, and their power still could not compare to that of a feral cat.
Ritsu didn’t settle until a little ways into the story. He didn’t pay much attention to his daemon in youth. Then The Accident happened. Suddenly, Ritsu began to carefully monitor his daemon’s forms while spending time with his brother, cycling through small, non-threatening, harmless little mammals and reptiles to cause as little stress as possible. When alone, however, Ritsu couldn’t help trying bigger and stronger forms on occasion. When his powers manifested, his daemon forms became fiercer and wilder as he grew drunk off his own power. But his power was still so small compared to Shigeo’s, and he was still so afraid. In came Claw, forcing Ritsu to watch his brother get beaten on his behalf, and then being kidnapped himself. He realized there were people stronger than his brother, and suddenly, Ritsu’s childhood fears began to fade. It wasn’t until Shigeo so easily forgave and embraced him, even after all the awful things he regretted saying and doing, that Ritsu realized his love for his brother far outweighed his fear. Ritsu finally settled. He would have never expected this particular form, but nothing felt more right. The irony of settling before Shigeo was not lost on Ritsu, however.

Name Analysis: Sahimawari is an amalgamation of Japanese of words meaning “Little Sunflower”, with “Sa” being little and “Himawari” being sunflower. In flower language, the sunflower stands for feelings of adoration, admiration, and platonic love towards a person, such as a family member or friend, and for loyalty and strong bonds between two people, as represented by the strong and upright stem. This flower seeks out positivity and strength, as the bloom turns to face the sun, and is meant to symbolize good luck and lasting happiness.
(Socially selective, dedicated and loyal, cooperative, adaptable, unobtrusive, conflict-avoidant, cautious, persistent and hardworking, selfless, tolerant and easy-going, quiet, practical, caring and nurturing, goal-oriented, puts great amount of faith in their close friends)
Alright, after blabbing about this AU for a good while now (special shout out to @x-i-l-verify for inspiring and helping me so so much with this, you’re amazing!), finally here’s my first full installment! More in depth summary/analysis under the cut!
Mob’s daemon is rather solitary for a wild dog. Rather than joining the customary pack, raccoon dogs do just fine on their own. However, they are best known for their tendency to pair-bond, and these monogamous bonds last through many seasons to entire lifetimes. During breeding season, the parent raccoon dogs work together to care for their litters, each parent doing their own part to collect food and protect their young. Raccoon dogs are omnivores and can have a wide variety in diet (such as fish, birds, toxic toads, insects, fruit, berries, and grains), allowing them to not have to compete with other top carnivores such as foxes and badgers. They are also the only wild canine known to participate in a kind of hibernation, which is something the northernmost raccoon dogs have adapted to. They are quite non-territorial and non-aggressive for the most part, although the parents can become very testy if their babies or loved ones are threatened. Since they are adaptable and work cooperatively to produce strong litters, raccoon dogs can be seen as persistent and dutiful in all they do.
Mob is not settled at the beginning of the series. It took a good while to settle, often switching through different small mammals mixed with some birds and even the occasional small reptile. There would be some instances where Mob’s daemon would take on a larger, more ferocious shape, such as during the 100% Hostility fight that ended with Ritsu being kidnapped by Claw. Mob may have possibly even settled as one of these if he had been left to go through with his 100% Murderous Intent in the battle with Claw’s 7th Division. However, Reigen interfered and took on the responsibility of the moment before it was too late, and Mob remained unsettled for a while yet. It wasn’t until after the Mogami incident that Mob finally settled on a raccoon dog, because as horrifying of an experience it was, Mob learned quite a bit about himself and noticeably matured from those events. However, he seems to be more protective of his daemon than anyone ever remembered him being before settling, and some have been shocked to have Yuhi growl at them and then quickly whine in apology if she’s approached too suddenly. Mob seems rather ashamed of these occurrences, but he never talks about why it happens either…

Name Analysis:
Yuhinagiku is an amalgamation of Japanese of words meaning “Gentle Daisy”, with “Yu” being gentle and “Hinagiku” being daisy. In flower language, a daisy symbolizes innocence, purity, new beginnings (Mob being the first child in his family), and true love, which I thought would be rather fitting for Mob’s soul. Not to mention a literal daisy pops out of his head near the end of the Mogami arc, which was entirely a coincidence because I only remembered this AFTER I started considering the name…! But it was nice bonus symbolism. :)

Shigeo’s daemon has preferred small rodents for years now, and they see no reason why she wouldn’t settle as one now that they’re around the right age for it. But then things in Shigeo’s life start changing, and he wonders what it would really mean for the shape of his soul to reflect the person he wants to become.

Basically a slightly abridged version of the series (mainly sticking to anime sequence of events but I'm def adding in bits of the comic that I think are too cool to leave out) with the added bonus of using daemons for character introspection. And symbolism. LOADS of symbolism (duh). I had a ton of fun coming up with the daemons and their names!
Throughout the story Mob and his daemon Ume observe how their friends are changing and wonder about how Ume's settled form will reflect on Mob as a person. Teru, Ritsu, Tome, and Reigen in particular probably have the most...in depth daemon-character exploration? By the end of the story, Mob and his friends will all be settled, and I also plan on posting bonus chapters after every "season finale" explaining my daemon assignments and naming choices.
