Book accurate Dallas Mood-board and some headcannons

A/n: As always this is just my opinion and what I think, you don’t have to agree and you don’t have to like it

Wished he could let his hair get a little longer but knew he was already pushing it with how it is

Any longer and people would have started giving him crap about it

Stayed at the Curtis house more than anyone realized, he just got in and out while everyone’s asleep

Born in NY,NY. (I know the book says he only spent three years there, but for a while I thought of him as from New York and I can’t stop)

Thick accent, at least when he first moved to Tulsa

He moved there when he was 12

His mother died when he was 7

He had trouble remembering her face, but he remembered her voice…especially when she was yelling at his father

His saint Christopher necklace was from her

Would of been a mamas boy if she’d been around longer

She took her own life

He thought of her whenever he thought about suicide

Didn’t originally plan to end it when he called Darry, but was so exhausted when he reached the lot he felt like it was the only way

His hair was naturally blonde, his mom’s was too but it was more dirty blonde

The crime that first got him arrested when he was 10 was shoplifting something for a buddy who was a couple years older

I agree with a lot of people idea that he was like the Johnny of his gang in NY and that’s why he took such a liking to him

Dally was the first one to call Johnny, Johnnycake, because when Johnny introduced himself he spoke so quitley Dallas heard Cake not Cade

Stole things like food and necessities and the hid them in the lot in a place only Johnny would find

The only thing he gave Johnny directly was cigarettes, a lighter, and weapons if Johnny asked for them

He liked snakes, he won’t tell anyone though since he doesn’t want to come off as weird

He used to hate them but then he stumbled upon a rattle snake one day, he didn’t have a gun and he forgot his switch all he could do was back up slowly and hope for the best

It stopped rattling to his surprise, it just sat there, he tested his luck and sat down where he was standing, he and the snake sat together for a long time

It was strange, in a way Dallas understood the creature, it wasn’t always vicious, just when it needed to be or wanted to be left alone

He’d never let anyone close enough to get or understand him, but he supposed a snake couldn’t tell anyone so it was alright

From that day on he liked snakes and even kept a little non venomous one at bucks for a while

Could read far better then anyone thought he could

Not only read little women and cried (cannon fact confirmed by Hinton) but also read some of Jane Austen’s books and enjoyed them (my own personal head cannon)

Would’ve rather died than admit it

He was aware of Pony drawing him and would sometimes try and hold the same expression so Pony could capture it

He also would’ve rather died than admit that or have pony ever find out

Loved horses almost as much as soda does just didn’t show it

Rodeos filled him with the adrenaline of a good fight but also the joy of kid on Christmas morning,

Speaking of Christmas he never had a good one, just ones that were less and than others

Except when he was thirteen and had been beaten to a pulp on Christmas Eve and had no choice but to stay at the Curtis house

Mama Curtis patched him up and sent him to bed with Soda. Before though she pulled her boys aside and told them to wait a little longer then usual to get out of bed the next morning

She had a little extra cash to spend and would be running to the store to get something for Dallas

It was the best Christmas Dallas ever had, a photo was taken and he kept it buried under some things in his room at Bucks
