Book Review: Mr. Wrong Number - Lynn Painter (Potential Spoilers)

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗 - 3.5/5 Title: Mr. Wrong Number Author: Lynn Painter

Description: Olivia Marshall is unlucky, putting it nicely. Everything that could go wrong, usually does for Olivia. The silver lining in all of it is that she's able to laugh at herself and get back up, which is exactly what she needs to do when her apartment gets burnt down and she has nowhere to go, so she has to turn to her brother and stay with him, not realizing that he's rooming with his best friend, Colin. Colin and Olivia were never on great terms, she was always Colin's best friend's annoying little sister, and he was always her brother's jerk of a best friend, but obviously with them now living together for a month while she gets back on her feet, those feelings turn confusing. Along with everything Olivia is already dealing with, a wrong number texting her "What are you wearing?" really turns up the heat for her and sends her life into a whirlwind.

Reason for Rating: I am a huge sucker for anonymity in stories so when it has to do with wrong number texting, I'm all for it. Do I think this could have gone in a better direction? Fersher, which is why I didn't give it a higher rating. Do I think the author did a good job at portraying the wrong number angle? Yes. This book kept me interested until the very end - I did not put it down until I finished it. It was filled with witty banter from multiple people, a little bit of drama, and a lot of flirting that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you're thinking that Olivia has to choose between the wrong number that she's somehow started an anonymous sexting relationship with, or Colin, you're in for a lot more than that when you read the book!

Olivia is fun. I liked her in first half of the book. She is lovely, smart, fun, and briliiant writer. But she is not a perfect person. She is judgemental towards Colin for almost whole book. Colin is most interesting. He is acts like Mr. Darcy and looks like Ryan Gosling. I definitely was going to like him more than Olivia. Chemistry is super hot with witty banter and enemies to lovers arc. Colin’s abs, smirks and winks didn’t just melt Olivia. I so so loved imagining him. There are few romantic scenes but for most of the books they are like friends with benefit as Olivia felt insecure to make it serious or label what they have and Colin went along to keep Olivia happy. A sure receipe for complex and dramatic romance. Why 3.5 stars- Last 30% of the book lost it’s charm. Many things happening here are unbelievable. End was not satisfying. Some things were left unresolved like Olivia's insecurity about turning their friends-to-benefit thing into serious relationship. they never talked about it. There is no exploration on Olivia writing parenting article as nonparent or Colin ghosting and how technology is changing relationships. My big issue is Olivia. Her lack of understanding Colin or listening him out, being constantly judgemental, and thinking very low of him, is grating and irritating.
