"Turn, Fortune, turn thy wheel" (from "Idylls of the King: The Marriage of Geraint"), Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892)
Turn, Fortune, turn thy wheel, and lower the proud; Turn thy wild wheel thro' sunshine, storm, and cloud; Thy wheel and thee we neither love nor hate. Turn, Fortune, turn thy wheel with smile or frown; With that wild wheel we go not up nor down; Our hoard is little, but our hearts are great. Smile and we smile, the lords of many lands; Frown and we smile, the lords of our own hands; For man is man and master of his fate. Turn, turn thy wheel above the staring crowd; Thy wheel and thou are shadows in the cloud; Thy wheel and thee we neither love nor hate.
Allegory of Fortune, Salvator Rosa, ca. 1658-59
–Fyodor Dostoevsky, "Notes from underground"
Thanks to many re-reads and rewatching the 1995 version of Persuasion I finally understand why Anne Elliot is so relatable, she is definitely super far from being like a main character, she is always supporting and helping others, being in their shadow and content with it but towards the end of the book, she seems to have the need to voice her opinions in good company and even allows herself to go claim her happy ending.
Mood: my heart is broken so I am gonna forget about the world and fall in love with more fictional men to fix it.
Thank God for so many good books that came out today!
My Colonel Brandon ❤️
I am utterly in love with the character and with how much of a gorgeous portrayal Alan Rickman did 💖
I am re-reading "Sense and Sensibility" after 6 years and I have many feelings about it. However, I found this amazing comparison that left me speechless and sad for more time than I can account for.
We know how Willoughby used to take long times in his horse and carriage with Marianne, we know she was much younger than him (she was only 17 while he was 25), we even know she believed herself to be almost engaged to him because her family loved him and the same happened with her family's friends.
Now, after they meet again, he completely pretends that he doesn't remember the attachment they used to have, that they were simply acquaintances and friends but nothing more, while she can barely speak due to all the grief she is battling in front of everyone. In the mean time, he is engaged to someone else, a younger and richer girl, and so, he leaves Marianne in that state without caring much.
Last thing, I promise, is when he sends back her things (three letters and a lock of her hair). Now, all the parallels I see to "All too Well (10 minutes version) (Taylor's Version)" are just overwhelming and I love them.
My capacity at making good decisions has officially left me because I was crying yesterday while finishing "Get a Life, Chloe Brown" and then I was like "okay, now I need a proper cry" and started my first book by Colleen Hoover ever, "All your Perfects" and I am only 33% in and my heart is completely shattered, I just know I am gonna cry about it until 2022.
I am at 60% and I just want to throw the book against the wall for all the pain I am feeling and then cry the whole day. I never felt so betrayed, hurted and utterly broken while reading a book.

"The Hating Game" movie definitely understood the assignment, now I need this exact level of fidelity to the book with "The Unhoneymooners" so I can be eternally happy.
Just finished "Get a Life, Chloe Brown" by Talia Hibbert and God, I cried so much near the end, these characters are so real and relatable, I cannot wait to read Dani's and Eve's books.
