Welcome to this unnesscary gendered product. I get what they are trying to achieve with the message of the game, women can be as sucessful if not more sucessful than men. But for me Monopoly never ever was trageted just to boys or men. It never mattered what gender you had while playing this game. It is just so fucking dumb. Rant over.

Hasbro: We would like to raise awareness of the fact that only 10% of all patented inventions belong to women, and would like to promote women in STEM and female inventors, so here’s a game where you can “buy” stuff invented by women. Ms. Monopoly is supposed to empower women. Critics say it does the opposite

Toymaker Hasbro announced this week the rollout of a new version of Monopoly in which female players receive more money than male players. Detractors say the rules may be well intentioned but gloss over the troubling forces behind the real-world gender wage gap.

I really like this idea. Sure, critics can argue that it won’t actually solve the pay gap issue on its own, but those same critics just sit around on their lazy asses while women continue to earn 80% of what men do. Hasbro obviously can’t fix the crisis on their own, but they are making an honest effort by making this edition of the game. Kids will be growing up with this game, and with the right explanation from parents, kids can learn what this pay gap means and possibly in future generations more people will be aware of this problem and fix it. All it takes is for companies/businesses to PAY EQUALLY. This isn’t an unstoppable plague, its a decision that people need to be re-informed to make. Pay women their fair share already! This small advance by Hasbro could make a bigger impact than some people (MEN) would like to think. This game isn’t purposed to shame men or young boys, its purpose is to EMPOWER women. Kids who grow up with this game will be more likely to grow up informed of society’s issues and, for example, will build businesses that work more fairly for everyone. Apparently many men are getting peeved from this move, but that’s a sign that this small effort from Hasbro could be working. It’s quite likely that the men who are getting angry about this are the ones who are contributing to this very problem, and they deserve to be angry. What they are putting honest working women through isn’t right and it needs to end. And if you all think I’m some angry woman blogging about this, you’re wrong. I’m a guy, and I believe in fair pay for women. Call me crazy, but I do.
