"Daragang Magayon"
(Fair Maiden)
She may appear shy, hiding behind clouds and mountains but make no mistake. The beauty and splendor of her perfect cone rivals her ferocity which can bury entire cities. She is as beautiful as she is dangerous. She is now known as Mt. Mayon, but legend says she used to be called Daragang Magayon. Until her heart was broken and her lover was taken away from her.
Did you know that there are several volcanoes in Bicol, other than Mt. Mayon? One of these volcanoes is the one and only home of a rat with ancestors that go back almost 14 million years! Meet the Mt. Isarog Hairy-tailed Rat: https://philippinewildlife.art/portfolio/mt-isarog-hairy-tailed-rat/
