Drafting Avacyn Restored
I went into yesterdays draft hoping to run white/red humans. This was not the case at all. There was very little in the packs that would lead me to draft white/red humans. No Lightning Maulers, no Silverblade Paladins, no Thatcher Revolts either. I also didn't see any of the combat tricks that I wanted, Uncanny Speed into Rush of Blood being one of them. i did see one Zealous Strike come around to me, and as I had settled into a early to mid range white/blue deck, I pulled it quickly. I was passed an early Entreat the Angels and a Lunar Mystic was looking to join my deck as well. A few cheap fliers and two copies of Favorable Winds finished of the deck.
What really ended up bringing the deck home was the two Latch Seekers that were given likelink via Nearheath Pilgrim. Six unblockable lifelink damage each turn makes that 7/7 Vorstclaw you waited to play seem kinda silly huh?
I ended up going 4-1 in total losing to a deck that punished me for using cheap fliers in the semi-finals.
I also had someone miss the trigger four times on Triumph of Ferocity. Normally in a fun draft setting i would point out this to the other player, but the player sitting across from me was confidentially being the biggest dick I have ever played against. He said that everyone but him had built a bunch of garbage decks and that he was easily the best player in the shop (I'm paraphrasing and dropping the cussing). When he noticed that he had not drawn a card for the triggers he asked if he could draw them. As he was already passed his draw step and onto main phase 1 at the time I smiled and said no and called over a judge. The other player ended up getting a waning for failing to maintain the game state and was not allowed to draw off the missed triggers. Doesn't help him that he was mocking the judge earlier.
All and all I had some very fun match ups, including a mirror match in the quarter finals that ran out of time in match 1.
let us take a moment of silence
