Opening THIS FRIDAY -#RochesterNY #MuCCC #TheAfricanCompanyPresentsRichardIII . #Historical #Drama The African Company Presents Richard III by Carlyle Brown is a historical drama set in 1821 New York City, depicting the true story of the African Company, the nation's first Black theatrical troupe. Founded by William Henry Brown, the company is on the verge of presenting Shakespeare's Richard III at their downtown theatre. However, the play chronicles the efforts of a powerful white theater owner, Stephen Price, who uses his privilege and connections to try and shut down the Black company's show, fearing its potential success with audiences. The story explores the racial tensions of the era, the internal struggles of the Black actors, and the external attempts to suppress their artistic endeavors.
