These rich brownie bars are a great way to enjoy the delicious flavors of chocolate, juicy pears, and healthy muesli. It's great for a sweet treat or a quick pick-me-up on the go.
Ingredients: 1 cup muesli. 1/2 cup diced pears. 1/2 cup chocolate chips. 1/3 cup cocoa powder. 1/2 cup brown sugar. 1/4 cup vegetable oil. 2 eggs. 1 tsp vanilla extract. 1/4 tsp salt.
Instructions: Warm the oven up to 175F 350C. Mix the chocolate chips, cocoa powder, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt together in a large bowl until everything is well mixed. Spread the mix out evenly in a 9x9-inch baking pan that has been greased. If you stick a toothpick into the middle and it comes out clean, the cake is done. Mine took 25 to 30 minutes. Let it cool down before cutting it into bars.

Chocolate chip muesli bars. Please note - this is not one of my recipes. This recipe is from ‘One Handed Cooks’. I adapted this recipe though to the ingredients that I had in my pantry. Ingredients * 2 cups old-fashioned oats * ½ cup mixed seeds (pepitas, sunflower seeds), blitzed into a fine meal * ½ cup mini chocolate chips or cacao nibs (optional) * ½ teaspoon salt * 1 pinch of cinnamon * 1tbsp chia seeds * 2 tbsp water * ¼ cup honey * ¼ cup maple syrup (or more honey) * ½ cup cooking oil e.g. coconut (melted) or rice bran * 2 large egg whites, lightly whisked I used breakfast boosters instead of the mixed seeds. I also used white chocolate chips instead of the cocoa nibs and rice malt syrup instead of the honey. Method. Preheat an oven to 180 degrees and line a tray or loaf tin with baking paper. Set aside. In a large bowl add all dry ingredients together except the chia seeds. In a seperate cup, mix the water and chia seeds together. Set aside to thicken. In a jug, add the wet ingredients except the egg whites. (Honey, syrups and coconut oil) heat in the microwave until melted together. Add the chia seeds mix into the dry ingredients then add the wet ingredients. Once well combined, gradually add the whisked egg whites until well combined. Pour the mixture into your lined tray and bake for about 30-40 minutes or until golden on top. Let cool before cutting as the mixture will crumble whist hot. #EasyAndDelicious #MuesliBars #OneHandedCooks (at Wahroonga, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_oXSZNHncVliWBQ9cH8y83DcOe6kp4MZmkChE0/?igshid=1lhdxevu5cjx9
Bonyu Ba Artisan Granola Bars - AUGUST FREEBIES (read till the end)
Thank you very much to Su from Bonyu Ba, who kindly sent me a pack of her homemade granola bars to try! Here in this household, we’re huge devourers of muesli bars. Our favourite brand is Carman’s, which you’ve definitely seen around in the market.
What’s not to love about muesli bars? They’re a healthier option, easy to bring around and can be relied upon to keep the tummy well-filled for long periods of time.
Here’s my take on Bonyu Ba’s granola bars after having tried them out together with the help of The Dozer (I’ve decided to stop calling him Baby Dozer now that he’s turned 2). TOO MUCH help in fact because he started squealing in protest whenever I insisted we share the bar.
1. Soft…
…which means suitable for toddlers! Yes, The Dozer can chew pretty well, however, I still shred his meat and avoid large chunks of hard food. Digestibility still is a concern at his tender age. When I first bit into the granola bar, I was surprised to find it soft in comparison with Carman’s muesli bars. So, thumbs up on texture.
2. Delish…
…which means delicious! Bonyu Ba carries a number of different flavours and my favourite is “blueberries”! Do note that coconut oil is used, which can be a put-off to some people. I generally don’t have a problem with coconut oil, and even take virgin coconut oil - better known as VCO - as a supplement.

3. Baked ‘in time’
While chatting with Su, the founder of Bonyu Ba, she disclosed that her granola bars are made ‘just in time’ for delivery, to ensure that her customers get fresh bars. I felt this was a plus point which needed to be highlighted considering that commercial bars are usually made to last for months, with the aid of a little food preservatives.
4. (Mostly) Organic ingredients
Where possible, only organic ingredients are used, which definitely makes the bars a choice snack for kids! I wouldn’t call myself an “all-organic” mum. I do alternate between organic and non-organic food for the family at home. However, it is nice to get organic wherever possible and I think using organic ingredients is a nice touch to ensure that our kids eat as healthily as possible!
5. Nicely packaged
Su from Bonyu Ba runs her business online, which means she couriers the granola bars to you. I like the way she vacuum-packs her bars to ensure freshness. No worries about mildew or mould this way!
Uh…you might want to wipe that drool off your face at the end of this post. :P
