Wolstar fic Y2K finally!!!!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
I've been searching for ages for a fic set in the 2000s about the marauders growing up AND going to school. I found this one a few days ago while going through the tags I usually check, and maybe someone here would be interested in reading it. It reminds me a bit of tcoptp because it's also supposed to be set in a boarding school, but this Remus seems very different. Still, there are only three episodes so far, so I can't say much yet. Also, if anyone could recommend more fics about the Marauders growing up in the 2000s, I’d really appreciate it!!!
🖤 New Wolfstar Fic 🖤
Chapter 1 of In Lieu of Flowers is now up on ao3 🌻
"Has anyone, ever, actually managed to stop my big brother from doing something that he wants to do?" Regulus raised his amber-filled glass, mockingly. "Because that would be news to me."
Detective Remus Lupin and his partner James Potter are assigned to investigate of the most notorious crime families in New York City. Their chosen target for getting someone on the inside?
Sirius Black.
Things don’t go to plan, for anyone.

Sirius saw the young man walk into the shop, his hair was a dark brown, and a bit shaggy though he combed it back. He looked awkwardly around before he sat down with a couple of girls. He fit very well in this little shop. His floppy beanie that sat on the back of his head, jean jacket and tight black jeans with cuffs at the hem had him looking the same as any other hipster who came in, but there was something about him that was different. Whatever it was made him stand out completely from every other man in the shop, and completely different than the girls he arrived with, who struck Sirius more as glamour girls with perfectly manicured nails. Sirius quickly realized that one of them was the odd girl from the day before!
A few moments went by, Sirius was drying cups and serving drinks when the man approached him hesitantly. Oh bugger, had he caught Sirius eyeing him? Sirius grinned and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. He felt his cheeks warm slightly but it was gone as quickly as it had come.
A lock of the man's hair fell into his eyes as he spoke, “Hi...uhh I’m really sorry about this...I’m in a bit of a tight situation … could you possibly play along?”
“Sorry?” Sirius asked.
“Well see, I was trying to get my friend there off my back, her name’s Alice, and I told her I was seeing someone. So I gave her what I thought was a ridiculous name and said he worked here.” He blinked, realizing what he said and flushed a deep red. “I’m so sorry I didn’t mean..of course your name is unconventional...but it’s not ridiculous. So what do you say?”
“Was there a question in all that rambling, because I didn’t quite hear one. Do you have a name?”
“Ah sorry, my name’s Remus. I was hoping you might pretend to be my boyfriend for a short period of time, long enough that she will give me a few months peace when I tell her you’ve done the smart thing and realized you’re too good for me” Remus looked sheepishly at Sirius.
Sirius leaned over the counter getting close and whispering in his ear smiling. “What’s in it for me?” He winked, a cheeky sparkle in his eye.
Remus seemed a bit stunned before he answered, “Well what do you want? I’m not going to sleep with you, in case you’re thinking anything like that.”
Sirius laughed, throwing his head back. Then looking at Remus with a sparkle in his eye. “PG only! Got it! We can just say you owe me one,” he grinned and added “boyfriend.”
“I’m going to regret this aren’t I?” Remus looked nervously at him.
“Maybe.” Sirius shrugged and then added, “I am working right now but I get off in an hour, wait for me?”
He saw Remus nod and then wander back to his friends. Soon the two girls left and Remus sat at the table alone, with a hot chocolate, waiting for Sirius. Sirius couldn’t help but watch him as he pulled out a book from the bag. Shakespeare, interesting.
When Sirius finally got off of work he sat down with Remus and set a frothy Latte in front of him.
“I’m more of a tea person,” Remus said absently as he turned another page and continued to finish the sonnet he was reading.
“I actually kind of figured that, this is a London Fog. It’s an earl grey tea latte.”
Remus’s eyebrows shot up, “Figured? Coffee drinkers have a look?”
“You pick up a thing or two working as a barista for as long as I have,” Sirius grinned.
“How long is that?”
“Five years.”
“You seem to enjoy it, and I’m assuming you make all those extra designs?” He asked as he slipped in a bookmark and closed ‘As We Are’. He looked down at the little puppy winking at him in the frothy milk.
“I do but they are not extra,” Sirius pouted.
“You made one with a koala bear climbing the branch of a tree with three little baby koala’s all waving. If that's not extra, I don’t know what is.” Remus smirked.
“Fine!” Sirius sighed dramatically and then smiled. “I’m Sirius-Extra-Black, your temporary fake boyfriend!”
“I’m Remus-vaguely amused-Lupin. Thank you for doing this, my friend Alice — the crazy hyper one— she wouldn’t leave well enough alone. I didn’t think she’d actually come down here looking for my ‘boyfriend’.” He looked at his fingers and picked at his cuticles nervously.
Sirius grinned.
“Didn’t think the name Sirius was a real name huh?”
“Probably goes along with the name Remus in the territory of ridiculous.” Remus chuckled.
Sirius was surprised to learn that Remus was minoring in Astronomy and majoring in Anthropology.
“Those are two pretty different subjects, do you mind me asking why?”
“I’ve always had a fascination with astronomy and even though I always knew I would study social and cultural anthro and find a career within that field I didn’t want to give up on the stars.”
“That’s how you came up with your fake boyfriend Sirius, eh?”
Remus nodded and played with the threaded friendship bracelet from one of his best friends.
“My friends are coming back soon with Marlene’s girlfriend and one of our other friends from University, they wanna meet you if that’s alright?”
“Totally fine, how long have we been dating?”
“Only a week or two, it’s fairly new, still getting to know each other.” Remus looked around before leaning towards Sirius, “I love chocolate and 90s music. I don’t touch much, especially PDA. So you don’t have to snog me in public to prove anything.”
Sirius let out a barking laugh as the door chimed and in strutted three of Remus’ friends. One was Alice that he recognized, one had darker toned skin and long brown curly hair, holding hands with a short-haired person with tattoos all over their arms and a short sleeve button down.
“You know, it’s polite to WAIT for the driver to park the car and shut everything off! Why do I drive you selfish lot anywhere? Where is this bloke anyway, what was his name?” Shouted a familiar voice. Lily Evans strode into the room slamming the cafe door behind her and stopped dead in her tracks when she realized who was sitting with Remus.
“Holy shit,” she said a bit too loudly.
*gaaaaah I hope you liked their meeting!!! I just love these boys so much 😍*
Final Chapter Update 🌻
Kind of overwhelmed to be posting this, but chapter 30 of 30 (!) of Dear Moony is now up 🥹😭❤️ and honestly? I'm just so so happy to be finished, and so so grateful for every bit of interaction that got me here. I really hope you enjoy the last chapter, I'd love to hear your thoughts ❤️
They flitted from one sunshine-filled moment to the next, romping through the cool shaded woods or running the baked coastal path in desperate search of a breeze. Chaotic laughter would slow into sleepy merriment, as each hot day eased into another lazy evening.
Update 🌻
Chapter 27 of Dear Moony is now up 💛
"-Eli's kind of messy, but Barty's so much worse, oh my god." Regulus shook his head in wonder. "It's honestly nuts. He loses everything, and then he borrows our stuff, and he loses that too!" Sirius laughed, taking a sip of his tea and leaning over his knees a little more. "He sounds great." "He is." Regulus gave him a pleased look, expression warming like the early morning sunshine. "And, nobody can ever be mad at Barty, because he's too funny. He just makes me laugh, and then I instantly forget that I was mad about him losing, like, my third tie."

Masterlist <- clicky Sirius Black wasn’t just an employee. He didn’t just pour coffee. He was a barista and considered himself an artist. His art was the craft of beautiful and colourful lattes with intricate designs in the frothy milk and of course, his award winning smile for each customer. He made regulars out of most of them. His piercing grey - almost silver - eyes made him irresistible, and he knew it. It wasn’t often he met someone who wouldn’t swoon when he flashed his mischievous grin their way. He wasn’t conceited, not really, he just honestly couldn’t think of a time where it hadn’t worked.
This showed him how trivial the emotions of others really were, and he had come to the conclusion that dating wasn’t worth the trouble. He simply was just a pretty face to many, and he was bored of all the boys who threw themselves at his feet just to spend a night with him. He was nothing more than a hot piece of ass to all of them. He was definitely guilty of using that to his advantage. If you got it, why not use it?
“Hi, I’m looking for Sirius!”
The voice carried across the cafe towards him. He spied a slender girl with black spiky hair and a big smile who spoke to the waitress nearby. Sirius raised a brow, he didn’t recognize her, but he waved the girl over nonetheless.
“Wow...you are beautiful.” Her eyes widened as she stood before him.
He grinned and again that brow quirked, but from amusement this time. He chuckled.
“You’re not exactly my type, love—unless you’re packing a third leg under that skirt.” He tipped his head sideways and jokingly appraised her legs. He slung his rag over his shoulder and leaned over the counter and smiled. “No judgement, I’m into it.”
She turned quite red at the comment and shifted, pulling on her skirt before continuing, “sorry, I just meant… good for him, snagging a catch like you!”
“Come again?”
“Well, I wouldn’t be his best friend if I didn’t say that; really you are the lucky one! Course, I'm sure you already knew that.” she grinned and winked at the long wavy brown haired man in front of her.
“Huh?” Sirius looked at her in confusion. He didn’t know who this girl was, or what she was talking about. He had half a mind to tell her she was off her rocker. She was a cute little thing, but he had little interest in deciphering the rambling of nutty strangers.
“I’m Remus’s friend. He told me about you, finally let it slip you and he have been dating. I’ll have to give him a high five.” She looked at her phone quickly. “Oh shoot I’m late, see you ‘round Sirius!” And she left, leaving a stunned and confused Sirius behind the counter waving awkwardly.
”Hey mate, who was that?” his coworker Frank asked Sirius after the chipper girl had flounced —literally flounced— out the door.
”Honestly bro, I haven't a clue.”
“Was she hitting on you?” He asked slowly, curiosity sparkling in his brown eyes.
“Haha, no I think she knew I didn’t exactly bat for her team,” he winked at Frank, who then grinned and shouldered him in response. “I’ll shoot her your number if I see her again.”
Frank was a nice guy, he had gone to the same boarding school as Sirius and though he was a year older, they had stayed in contact after. Frank was the one who actually got him this gig back when he left home. He was too young - only 16 - and too pretty to work construction, one of the only options he could find when he had moved out of his parents, but he needed a steady paycheck to afford his butts, his drinks and his boarding school tuition. He wouldn’t take Euphemia and Fleamont’s offer of money.
Now he was a 21-year-old man, he had his own flat which he shared with James and Peter. James was in University to obtain his Bachelor of Law Enforcement Studies, Pete was already an ECE and kindergarten teacher and Sirius just felt like he was falling into the cracks. Everyone was doing something with their lives, becoming fulfilled adults and he was sitting there with a minimum wage job, no real goals beyond what to do that night. He did love his job, but he had thought he’d have...more.
