I don't have any questions, I just want to tell you your writing is amazing, and I've recently started dear moony and I'm INVESTED
Oh my gosh hi!! Thanks so much for your message! I am so so grateful for all your interaction, I have just seen you read the advocate and the accident which is just so lovely 🥹 really hope you enjoy dear moony!! Thank you again 💛
maddie, have you gotten anything from moony, specifically asks? i'm doing some detective work but i won't tell if i figure out who it is
Uh, I just got the first ask about the moon allergy thing before I looked around and figured out who it was, then got the threats after I 'betrayed' them
can you like give us a HINT. Because rn the only person I’m suspecting is YOU. You’re in all the fandoms (if I recall correctly) AND I was your first moot…
Soooo @burnininhell I’m not dropping this 😭
Uhhhhhh I'll give you another fandom?
If you know what the quote's from
The reason we're in the same fandoms is because I share every fandom with them as soon as I get in it to share the angst
"Dad's on a hunting trip and hasn't been home in a few days"
is it cheeky to ask for a wee snippet of dear moony? I am absolutely hyper fixating on it at the moment and any crumbs I would absolutely scamper for 🐀
oh my gosh it's never cheeky, I was so excited to read this ask, thank you! i have been obsessing over part 2 again recently, so I'm absolutely delighted to hear someone else is hyperfixating too 💛
spent a while wondering how long a snippet should be, but couldn't decide, so here is quite a lengthy one from 5th year 🌻 (sorry for the semi angsty vibe!)
Snippet - Dear Moony Part 2
“Know where he is?” James asked, coming to lean against the tall wooden table beside Remus. He'd picked a quieter spot, at least, closer to McGonagall's office and further from the common room. James held up the two cups he'd pilfered. "Fancy a drink?"
"Please." Remus agreed, sounding a bit desperate, and pointedly ignored the first question.
James passed one over, with a small nod. "Bit of vodka."
"Thanks." Remus took a grateful looking sip, but gave him a slightly chiding look when he lowered the cup. "And where do you think he is?" He took another deeper sip, and his expression twisted. It wasn't because of the vodka, though. “Him and Marlene.”
“Right.” James sipped his own juice, rather wishing he could add some alcohol for himself, and felt a bit stuck for anything useful to say. “And um, Peter?”
“He was tired. Went to talk with his Mum upstairs, a while ago.” Remus sighed, glancing at him. He was still wearing his oversized red jersey, the matching dashes of red paint on his cheeks highlighting how pale he looked. “I’m fine, Prongs. You can go and have fun.”
“I’m having fun here.” James replied, stubbornly. But Remus just looked at him knowingly, and in the end he sagged. He leaned his own shoulder gently against Remus’s, careful not to knock his balance, and shook his head. “I’m not really in the mood.”
“You won.” Remus said, frowning.
“Yeah,” James shrugged helplessly. “The football, yeah.”
“Yeah.” Remus watched him quietly, with heavy understanding, and reached his long arm around James's shoulders to squeeze gently. “That’s fair, man.”
It was quiet for a moment, almost peaceful.
It didn't last long.
They both looked up sharply, at a familiar yell of laughter coming from further into the house. The common room, no doubt.
James winced, rubbing his forehead. "Shit, McGonagall will have our heads if anything else happens.”
"His head, anyway." Remus replied, a bit darkly, pulling his arm free to grip his cup with both hands.
James shot him a reproachful look, and Remus sighed.
"Sorry." He leaned his shoulder back against James's. "I'm in a mood."
"Me too." James admitted, and they both snorted. "Good company."
"Misery, and all that." Remus stared down at his hands, the cup, and after another sigh, seemed to force himself to straighten. "Should we go and supervise? Lily's on her own." He didn't look particularly keen, but James admired that he'd offered.
The shouting and music and general noise from the common room was only increasing. It would be a miracle if they got away without a house-wide detention, at the rate they were going.
“Go on.” James clasped Remus’s wrist, gently. “I’m here, Moony.”
“Thanks, Prongs.” Remus gave James a grateful look, but his eyes were sad, and he moved very stiffly when he slid off the thin wooden table he’d been leaning against. He winced a little, as he straightened, and took James’s arm when he hurriedly stood and offered.
"Alright?" James checked, because Remus took a moment to straighten.
“Yeah, bloody stairs in the maths block are a killer.” Remus muttered, leaning a bit more heavily, but managing to find his balance.
“Take your time.” And James made sure he did, as they walked down the corridor. The music got louder, and several sixth years, including the Prewett twins, were lounging in the doorway to the common room.
“Password?” Fabian drawled, and Remus raised an eyebrow.
“How about,” he briefly glanced at James, a flash of amusement crossing his face. “Move, or we’ll set Sirius Black on you.”
“No fair.” Fabian complained, but shifted out of their way, instantly. The other sixth years laughed.
“Bet he’d need a few days recovery first, to manage anything too bad.” Gideon teased, and James managed a weak smile, but followed a silent Remus into the common room without comment.
He didn’t need Gideon to explain what he meant, because he’d witnessed Sirius drinking enough to flatten Hagrid, earlier in the evening.
James paused, a few steps inside, at Remus's side.
It was hot, desperately muggy with the fire going, and the place was packed. Everyone from fourth year and above had clearly piled in, and James thought he even saw a couple of third years hiding over by the tables. But the music pounded loudly, distracting him, and James only just heard it when Remus made a low, wounded noise.
He turned, and held back a sympathetic wince.
Remus looked a little like he’d been struck by lightning, staring wide-eyed as he was, and James gripped his shoulder instantly. He couldn’t blame him.
Sirius was dancing.
And even though James was cross at him, and entirely platonic as the feelings between them were, it was so easy to admire Sirius when he looked like he did.
His hair was flung loose over his shoulders, long curling strands falling dashingly across his face, and his hips moved back and forth like he was being paid for it. One arm came up, and he tilted his head back, mouth falling open as he laughed. His other arm held Marlene’s waist, as she danced in front of him.
Again, James felt nothing more than fierce friendship and admiration for Marlene. But, especially with the pair of them moving together, even his cheeks were at risk of burning.
Marlene’s back slid against Sirius’s chest, and they were somehow talking, laughing together, though they never missed a step. Their hips moved in unison, and Marlene tossed her hair as they parted for a moment, then came back together. Her hand came up, gripping the back of Sirius’s neck, drawing him closer as he bent around her willingly, and Remus turned away abruptly when his lips seemed to brush her ear.
“Mate-“ James tried, but Remus’s face was blank, as he turned away and limped stubbornly across the common room.
James sighed, shooting the dancing pair an unfairly irritated look, and followed.
The dance floor had spread, though the pair in front of the fire were drawing the most attention. James caught a quick glimpse of Mary dancing with Luka, and shook his head.
“When did we open it to other houses?” He grumbled, and flopped down beside a cross-legged Lily in the window seat. “Fuck's sake.” His head ached, a little.
“Not like you, Potter.” Lily said, lightly, but there was concern on here face. She still had red paint dashed across her cheeks too, though she'd changed into jeans and a lighter shirt than Remus had on.
James watched carefully as Remus crouched, and then stretched out stiffly to settle on the carpet below Lily. He was tall enough now, more than, to lean his head back into her lap.
"Hello, love." She said, more gently, and stroked his hair. "Done in?"
“Yeah.” Remus murmured, eyes sliding closed. “All that cheering,” he sounded exhausted. “It’s hard work.”
“Hmm,” Lily carded her fingers through his hair, soothingly. She glanced at James, who twisted his lip, and she winced slightly, but nodded in understanding. “I’m glad you’re here for a rest, then.” She murmured, and Remus smiled faintly, before sighing and finally relaxing beneath her ministrations.
James relaxed a little too, seeing it, and sighed.
Everything else would just have to wait, for a while.
