Unpopular opinion and I know I’m going to get dragged for this
Timothée Chalamet was miscast as Woka, the only reason why he was cast was because he’s bankable. Many of you need to understand that Hollywood is a business, they don’t always care about the talent of the actor or their capabilities. They almost always care only about the money unless the film is either a passion project or an indie film(which Woka is neither of these). Thats not to say Timothée is talented because he is incredibly talented, but he’s unable to capture the spirit of Willy Wonka. Gene Wilder set the bar WAY too high for the character. Not even Johnny Depp was able to reach the level of quirky chaotic whimsical silly that Gene put into the character, yes he did his own thing but it wasn’t good enough to really carry the film. It takes a very special kind of chaotic energy that’s also whimsical, quirky and silky that is incredibly difficult to master or find in an actor. Unfortunately I don’t think any of the fans of Timothée can understand or grasp, which isn’t an attack on you. It’s just most of you most likely haven’t seen the original Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory(1971) as kids, or as adults. I recommend watching it at least 5 times on repeat so you can kinda get the idea of what we mean. Also rest in peace Gene Wilder(1933-2016), it’s unfortunate that his legacy is being tainted by a prequel film that’s being released 52 years after the original only for Hollywood to exploit it.
