      like, the majority of the books she reads is non-fiction. her shows /movies are a good combo of documentaries, dramas & romcoms (she’ll watch the chick flicks with you dean), but those are kinda just filler during chores or she’s just doesn’t think about shows/movies after she watches them (she’ll suck at writing reviews & critiquing). like, even as a kid, she just never, well, invested herself what she read / watch and read more knowledge than imagination; she wasn’t the one to play make believe or be overly excited about halloween & dress as favorite character of the year (her brother, on the other hand...).  her hobbies are not within fandoms... unless a wine fandom counts?? i mean, that’s basically a wine connoisseur, oui?

those that she leaves back at home always try to sympathize with how difficult her job must be  -  the time spent with injured patients,  the hours of stress and panic,  when in actual fact, time flies.   today was no different.   the only proof she has of the work achieved is the persistent ache gnawing at her calves and forearms.    the fact that all of this was an exercise meant nothing.   it counted as deployment.   counted as being at war.   you miss a trick ?   miss a symptom or an injury ?   you’re risking your patients’ lives.   there is no play pretend in the army.

              she sits, perched on the edge of a seat, sipping from her water bottle.   scoff and then forced rest, an early night to prepare for the next day  -  those had been the orders.   there’s the question of whether she’ll be able to sleep after the rush of the day.   is she ever able to sleep ?   lack of rest is no good for someone with a weapon and important decisions to make.   there’s someone standing over her, beside the table, the muffled sound of their voice unfiltered by momentarily deaf ears.   blinking, nic turns her gaze up to him, suddenly aware of his presence.   “ sorreh, did y’ say somethin’ ? ”     /  @multascripturae  /  starter call.

      not the first time that insult enters her ears, or that it passes out the other.  even if she looks at the empty chair, tempting to stand on it.   but at the end of the multiple scenarios in her head, she only shrugs   (can’t have the kids following her footsteps & stand on chairs, after all).  she doesn’t need physical higher ground for retorts.      ‘  how does it feel, tin -  ’      yet, just when her shoulders loosen in posture, a child runs between them in mid-chase, with mere inches into bumping her  (close to her height, mind you!).  and she spooks into tension once again, shielding herself with crossed arms.   defeats the smooth tone & resorting to a contrasting analytical.      ‘  nn  ...  then, that your cousin is dating a oompa loompa?  ’

      nike cracks her whip, guiding to the next battle under zeus’ instruction.   every second is a fight.  wartorn fields drench her wings in the blood of ares’ slain.   wreath of laurel lace with athena’s craftsmanship. victory pulses her heart   ;  failure is congestion she swallows until she spits it on defeat’s body.  petty clashes between a co-worker is no different   ;  she won’t give up until she wins.

            ‘  why would i?  ’      she taunts, a battle song to echo without her in view.   she’s a couple rows back among the metal chairs by then, a few less than her introduction.  the words give her time to reach a row behind. hands grip the edge of one, leaning her weight on the balls of her feet.  she has an angled view of him, at this higher ground.  his entiretymay be out of her sight, but his slouch tells her the enemy’s status. as his hand peels weariness  (already seen!)  from his face, a sly grin creeps onto hers, taking it to her advantage.      ‘  you look awful.  ’
