10 of the Best: FPS Multiplayer Maps
So here are 10 of my personal favorite online first-person-shooter maps. This is in no particular order and are only from games which I have played (or remember playing at least!). Of course some people may disagree and say some of these are awful, some may agree they're brilliant. Regardless let us know your views! I may have completely forgotten one which is fantastic. These maps aren't necessarily on the list primarily due to their layout, but rather how much fun they were for me. Let's begin!
1) Terminal - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
I loved this map, even though it was on this fateful battlefield that upon a fantastic headshot through the large glass panel my PlayStation 3 died... On release day of this game!!! GARGHHH!!!... Bought a new one the next day... Great map mind.
2) Arica Harbour - Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Definitely one of my favorites! From long range engagement to close quarter scuffles and jaw dropping destruction, this map was just brilliant. The amount of disgusting sniper shots achieved on this map is more than I care to count. From top to bottom I loved this map, 10/10 would play again. Yo DICE where's our BFBC3!?
3) Ziba Tower - Battlefield 3
CONTROVERSY! I OBJECT! Shhhh... Calm down. OK I know this was completely out of the ordinary for Battlefield, and many people were worried it was becoming...You know...The enemy. However this, for me was actually refreshing and was nice for occasionally getting away from the vehicular warfare. I liked the layout, I liked the setting and most of all I had fun. It was fast paced and was a great for quickly achieving gun challenges. It was also ideal for those on consoles with the lower player count who couldn't quite get the true feel of a war in the larger settings.
4) Facility - Goldeneye 007
Who cares if you could do a full lap of the map in under 20 seconds only to inevitably dual it out in the toilets and lose to whichever low life scum was playing as Oddjob. No one, that's who because you were having a total blast regardless!
5) Nelson Bay - Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Snow! I love snow settings in games when it's done right. A snow covered wood in the night was enough to make any player feel like a special operative, especially taking into consideration that I do believe you parachute in on this map during rush as an attacker. Psst... Use engineer class for the silencers! Adds to the epic effect.
6) Crash - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Ah Crash, one of the best and most popular maps in the Call of Duty franchise. It's well balanced, fast paced and allows for both close quarter and medium ranged engagement. You can also get onto the rooftops which sniper enthusiasts revel in... Not that they stay there mind, you're just as likely to run into one...Well...Anywhere.
7) Strike at Karkand - Battlefield 2
Reappearing in a few different Battlefield games, this map has a desert terrain surrounding the city and offers for a wide variety of gameplay. Vehicular warfare, sniping and medium to long range assault rifles are most commonly used here. A cool setting and a good layout which provided a fun and diverse experience.
8) Rust - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Did it take skill to play? No, was it a total f***fest? Yes. Online it was too hectic and you barely had enough time to make your first step upon spawn - however, that's not how we played this map. 4 people, throwing knife and melee only. Brilliant.
9) Blood Gulch - Halo: Combat Evolved
A big canyon with two bases at either end, a large field in between with a tunnel and teleporters for "flanking". This is easily the most famous map from the original Halo and has been remade in numerous Halo games since. In fact the last time I played this map it was a remake, and I was very drunk... It didn't go well.
10) Highrise - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
I can't express enough how pissed off I used to get being constantly killed a second after spawning by "that guy" who could quick scope the spawn from the start. Although picking off people trying to climb the crane was fun, it was just a cool map in general.
So there we go, 10 maps I enjoyed vastly. Now there are many more which I like but I can't list them all, and I understand some amazing maps such as de_dust2 but I... I haven't played it, I KNOW shock horror. I'm sure I will soon.
