you know what i am 3000% sick of from dc? the whole ‘fell into being a hero’ trope being applied to their female characters recently--particularly black canary and batgirl. because no. these women did not simply fall into being heroes, they were not reluctant heroes. both barbara and dinah were women who worked extremely hard to become heroes and be taken seriously by the community at large, with barbara creating a vigilante legacy training other young women in the same situation she had been in, continuing to fight when joker in conjuction with dc’s sexist writers tried to turn her into fuel for other characters man pain and shunt her off to the side, while dinah became one of the powerhouses of the superhero community, someone you did not fuck with, someone universally respected by other members of the justice league and adult heroes, as well as the younger generation as someone you could look up to. meanwhile the dcyou reboot has made them reluctant heroes, dinah in particular, as if they have little to no desire to be involved in heroics. the same can be said to a lesser extent on the subject of koriand’r who in addition to being made an extremely reluctant hero has been dumbed down to the point where her fourteen year old children’s cartoon counterpart is more intelligent and well developed as a character.

i hate anti-technology posts lol, my gf posts them on facebook all the time (don’t get me started on the pure hilarity of that), but just stuff like “technology is making human interaction obsolete!!!” just annoys the shit out of me.

um, who do you think is on the other side of that text message, that email, that IM?? yeah, another human being, most of the time. technology has helped me -- a young woman with a CRIPPLING anxiety/agoraphobia/depression issue --make friends and keep appointments and reach out to people when i needed it. posting stuff like that is basically throwing a TON of people under the bus, me included. it’s ignorant on so many levels.

i love my gf a lot but holy hell, i literally have SO MUCH TROUBLE interacting with other human beings that if it weren’t for the internet, i would have probably no friends and therefore no support network at all outside my mom.

They could have done so much more with Alaric and it annoys me that his plot was virtually nonexistent, in terms of him being an Original.

I feel like that's all this show does now, bring in plots that could be interesting--arc throughout the entire season and just stop them abruptly, among other problems.

Don't even get me started on the doppleganger fuckery last season.

Or what happened with Katherine.

Or the Damon/Bonnie/Kai arc this season.

im literally going to break everything in my fucking house. i can't get any fucking usefulness out of anyone here because they're all so fucking selfish. FUCK. and the idiot who sold me my shoes apparently doesn't know what size fucking 8 means. i would've caught it sooner but i don't know that men's 9.5 means women's 11. i can't fucking win. i just can't. i hope my first day at work goes better than the bullshit that's going on now.

Tbh I'm just wondering how much longer Bonnie has to continue sacrificing her own happiness/life for these people to live. Bonnie Bennett has ALWAYS deserved better and it pains me that they just keep torturing her/preventing her from having any sort of happy ending/getting the gratitude she deserves from the other characters.

Damon better be finding a way to bring her back in the next episode. That preview was bullshit.

Spoilery rant about TMR and TST below the cut.

Dashner thinks he's being clever by withholding information. Obviously other people think this too. But he's not. He's stripping his characters of agency, which is not good writing. Stephenie Freaking Meyer gave her characters more agency than this. These kids have spent two books now being yanked around by WICKED, which continues lying and withholding information because Dashner thinks it's clever to be a dick to his readers.

This isn't clever. This is a gimmick. This is an entire bestselling trilogy based on a gimmick.

And you know what pisses me off the most? I like these books. I like TST--in which the Gladers had way less agency, in fact--better than TMR. And it all comes down to pacing. I might not give a shit about most of these characters, I might want to stab WICKED in the face with a Griever's needle, but these books are entertaining. TST in particular was hard to put down, which is really the only job of a genre book. I like to say "You have until I stop reading." Basically those first few chapters better hook me and not let go, because if I can stand to put the book down before then I will. I have other books on my reading list. And I didn't put down TST. TMR I read more because the movie was coming out, but TST was way entertaining and I'm going to read TDC as soon as I finish this other book. So despite these books reading like Dashner waving a present in front of his readers' faces going "I WONDER WHAT'S INSIDE", they do their job.

Just, could everyone stop acting like it's clever that he withholds information and runs his characters around like wind-up toys. There's a reason people don't do this more often.

Get your heads out of your butts, go the fuck outside and realize that it's the fucking internet. NOTHING you do on the goddamn internet matters. If you get a sick thrill from sending anons to people...guess what! Even after you send the message, nothing changes for you. You're still a sad lost pathetic little human being who needs to go the fuck outside and find themselves a real life. The people you send anons to? We don't care. We have too many things going on. Like jobs and friends and parties and other general bad assery. But after this last 24 hours I'm just really fucking done with tumblr and I have no desire to be here right now. So I'm going to go get $1 margaritas and I'll be back later. But think about yourself, be very honest about your current situation and mood, and then fucking fix it.
