It's a special date...!
That one moment we waited ages for... One moment that changed everything forever... A historic moment... A moment that whoever witnessed, will never forget... A moment that is forever embossed on the heart of every single true blue... That indelible moment... That moment when King Didier struck a penalty worth a billion hopes and dreams... That moment when the ball landed in the net. THAT WAS IT. We had done it. We had done it. All of a sudden a painful memory, of a rainy night in Moscow, of the skipper slipping while taking the penalty, when we already had one hand on the Big Ears, a moment later it all just slipped away...just...gone; faded away. Forgotten. This time it was written in the stars. We were not going to let it go this time. NOT THIS TIME. We wanted it... We wanted it every iota of our very existence. You won't be able to elude us this time. YOU CAN'T. And it didn't. It's been 4 years now but I remember every moment of that mesmerising night in Munich. Stayed awake till early morning, rolling back in my mind the happenings that night. To be the underdog, to face an enemy so mighty, in their own backyard. It took courage. And we had lots of it. We showed great character. Thankful to every single individual that played a part that night to make that victory possible: the players, the staff, the manager, the owner, the fans at the stadium, the fans across the globe.....and also the rival team for that great match. It was a victory of epic proportions: not just victory of a team, not just a victory of a club, player or individual; it was a victory for all of us. Every single one of us. It will stay with us forever. Sweet, sweet victory! #CHELSEATILLWEDIE :') <3
Chelsea Champions at Last, Everyone Goes Nuts
This made me cry
BAM!
Drogba had equalized just before the end of normal time. It was a fine corner from Juan Mata and Drogba scored via a perfectly well-timed header that Neuer couldn’t save. The match went into extra time. Chelsea held on, for another half hour. They were not going to let this slip, not without they had put in their best effort. ET ended 1-1 as well and it was time for penalties.
Phillip Lahm, Mario Gomez, Manuel Neuer, Ivica Olic, Bastian Schweinsteiger took penalties for Bayern. Juan Mata, David Luiz, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba took the penalties for Chelsea.
Juan Mata had missed the first penalty for Chelsea, Bayern took a 3-1 lead; but Chelsea scored 3 penalties after that first miss, while Olic and Schweinsteiger missed for Bayern. It all came down to the last kick: Drogba was to take it. He got ready, and went for it, his strike was well-placed and powerful and he had sent Neuer the wrong way. He scored. HE HAD DONE IT! HE HAD DONE IT FOR CHELSEA!!!
Looking back, it has been 2 years. Drogba had won that trophy for Chelsea which had eluded them for years: They had made it to multiple semifinals and a final, and had come so close to winning but it was not to be then; but today was Chelsea’s day and his day, and he did not disappoint. In what was his last match for Chelsea, he had won the Champions League for Chelsea through what was his last ever kick in a blue shirt.
That night was blue. Chelsea had painted Munich blue on that night. The fans were rejoicing, the players were rejoicing, the staff was rejoicing. They had overcome all odds, at all possible levels, including beating their final opponents on their home turf. They had done it. We had done it. :') 💙
