Qatlak P'awu (qatl 'dragon,' p'aw 'fang') is a sacred mountain in Muqali. At about 6000 m, it is the highest peak in the country, and in the continent of Tiptum as a whole. As explained before here, the mountain range forming the eastern border of Muqali was believed to have been fashioned from the bones of a cosmic serpent. This mountain, naturally, is supposed to be what's left of its fang.

Mukhali of the Ca'at Jalair was one of the top generals of Chinggis Khan, and one of the greatest generals in military history. Born around 1170, after the defeat of the Jurkin tribes in the 1190s by the rising warlord Temujin, Mukhali was given as a slave by his father to the Mongol leader. Mukhali's ability and loyalty quickly made him stand out among Temujin's followers, and he partook in the campaigns leading up to Temujin's unification of the Mongols in 1206. Along with Bo'orchu, Boroqul and Cila'un, Mukhali was one of the "Four Steeds," of the Great Khan, ( while Jebe, Subutai, Jelme and Qubilai (no relation to the later Kublai Khan) were Chinggis' Four Dogs of War). In the 1206 Kurultai and declaration of the Mongol Empire, Mukhali was handsomely reworded, made Myriach of the Left Wing and granted immunity to up to nine breaches of the law. Mukhali was a major figure in the initial Mongol invasions of the Jin Empire beginning in 1211, often being given autonomy to take his forces vast distances from the main army. In 1217, as Chinggis' attention began to be drawn west with the Kara-Khitai and later the Khwarezmians, Mukhali was given his ultimate command: Viceroy of Mongol China, to take full control of the continued war effort against the Jin while Chinggis Khan was absent in Central Asia. From 1217 until 1223, Mukhali operated on his own with an army of Mongols, Onggud, Tangut, Khitans, Jurchens and Chinese against the Jin while his sovereign was a thousand kilometres away. The mutual and trust between Chinggis and his generals was clear, for Chinggis never doubted that Mukhali would try to declare independence or abandon his duty, which the rival empires of the period suffered routinely with their generals.  Ultimately, it was only death itself which forced Mukhali from his post: the general died in early 1223 of illness, his final words lamenting his failure to take the Jin capital, Kaifeng, for Chinggis Khan. CHINGGIS KHAN AND MUQALI PLANNING THE CAMPAIGNS IN CHINA

Chinggis Khan is often depicted as a sort of mindless brute in media, but this does not accurately depict the man. Brutes win battles, but can't conquer Asia. One of Chinggis' most important skills was instead his willingness to listen, take in the advice of his generals and organize them to maximize their abilities. This drawing here depicts Chinggis Khan and his top general Muqali, making plans for Muqali's campaigns in China. In 1216, Chinggis and Muqali spent several months organizing this campaign,  planning, taking in advice and intelligence from sources and scouts on the best course of action to consolidate the conquests in North China. It was always important to Chinggis to establish the best possible plan of attack based off as much available information as could be acquired, to give the Mongols every possible advantage. As their enemies tended to underestimate the Mongols and rely on the strength of their walls, this gave Chinggis Khan a significant strategic advantage. Mukhali (or Muqali) was one of Chinggis Khan's greatest generals, who took over control of the campaign in North China as Chinggis turned his attention to Khwarezmia. Mukhali efforts in China in this time are phenomenal in almost every aspect, from the numbers he worked with (and against) to the distances he covered and cities he took, earning himself a fine reputation and becoming Chinggis' viceroy and most trusted general, never once losing a battle no matter the odds. Not bad for a man who had once been a slave. Unfortunately, Mukhali died in 1223 from illness, cutting his spectacular career short.
